Senate Democrats are urging Energy Secretary Rick Perry not to follow through with a rule that eliminates efficiency standards for about half the lightbulbs on the market.
The regulation, finalized by the Department of Energy in September, leaves in place rules for standard pear-shaped bulbs, while removing such requirements for recessed lighting, chandeliers and other shapes of bulbs.
“These rollbacks are indefensible, both in terms of their costs to consumers and their contravention of Congressional intent,” senators wrote in a letter spearheaded by

I’ve stockpiled two things - ammo and light bulbs.

Fortunately, lamp developers have moved on from CFLs to LEDs - we have LEDs throughout our condo home. They've been running for several years, with not a single failure.
Glad that incandescents are still available.

I'm still using my stockpile of incandescent bulbs. The new bulbs either create an unbearable glare or flicker, and in both cases, cause migraines. Meanwhile, I have nice, warm light to read by. They can take their new standards and stuff them where the lightbulb screws into!!

One of the many things I am grateful for is PT is letting me use the light bulbs I want instead of the light bulbs the government wants me to use.

When democrats listen to a few requests from Republicans then maybe the Republicans will stop turning a deaf ear on democrats. I don't see Nancy Pelosi bending over backward to grant our requests.

As well they should be eliminated. Those curleyque fluorescent bulbs are filled with mercury. Drop one on the floor and boom you have mercury all over the place for your kids to get all over them. Call a HAZMAT team for clean up. I have retrofitted every fixture in my home to LED's. Best move I ever made. Great light and easy on my electric bill. In spite of their relatively high cost, they do save energy and that saves money. I still want freedom and liberty to be able to buy incandescents if I want them for a particular purpose or need.

Democrat senators concerned about consumer costs? Please. Notice they didn't use the term "taxpayer". With all their fuss one would think President Trump was mandating the use of plastic straws. Horrors.

Efficiency rules from those masters of efficiency, the federal government. How about we get to produce light at night time however the hell we want. Nobody has outlawed the candle. YET. They tend to work during a hurricane.

If Thomas Edison were alive today, he would be saying to himself, "Oh, to heck with it. It's just not worth the trouble." Same with Tesla, Ford and the Wright brothers.

While Rick Perry is at it he should remove all the appliance energy efficiency standards. Let consumers make their own choice.

This won't be an issue in California ... since they don't have any power to light up the bulbs.

#1 I stockpiled toilet paper during the BO administration. I had fears that BO would close grocery stores or over-regulate the truck driver out of business.

The old incandescents are better for the environment than the new ones, which have to be disposed of, same as the old bulbs.

Please do it. OTOH, I have a closet full of real light bulbs that were bought at $0.59 each.

Newer lights will be adopted by the people when they want them. Bureaucrats should not be passing down mandates.

Everybody thought LEDs were going to last for a million years. Laughably, their "weakest link" isn't so much the LED as it is the small power supply that converts wall voltage to the few volts DC required to run the light. The power supplies don't last long after all the power cycles. Nothing more efficient than that little tungsten filament.

Demonrats, the ones who manipulated the stock market for cash instituting those god-awful bulbs don't want go back to the Edison types. They'll lose too much money in their portfolio.

I hate LED bulbs. They just do not give good light and comfortable reading is a thing of the past. This is my son's house so he gets to choose but if I come across a pkg of 100 watt bulbs, you can bet I'm getting them.

Like every other bright idea from the coconut on Barack Obama's shoulders, these expensive "improvements" were overpromised, overpriced and do not work as advertised.
