Ruled as a colony by its Cuban masters with a little puppet leader in the persona of Nicolás Maduro, it's as bad an economic shambles as Cuba is, and as with Cuba, millions of its people are fleeing. The United Nations declared it a death-squad regime, with 7,000 documented killings of dissidents. There's a legitimate leader in the legislative declaration of Juan Guaidó as president, but the man is powerless without an army to command and sadly fading to irrelevance.

A group of teenagers allegedly looted a Walgreens in downtown Philadelphia Thursday evening, according to video footage of the incident.
The video showed dozens of teens running through the streets on Philadelphia’s South Street Thursday, but things began to get violent when a group of 60 teens descended on Walgreens.
CBS Philly reported that as the crowd moved west on South Street and violence broke out around 10 p.m., authorities advised businesses and residents to lock their doors.

Billionaire Jeffrey Epstein has been arrested for allegedly sex trafficking minors in Florida and New York from 2002 to 2005. The 66-year-old registered sex offender faces federal sex trafficking charges and is due to appear in court in New York on Monday. He was taken into custody by the FBI on Saturday after landing in New York following an overseas flight. Epstein's arrest comes after a New York federal appeals court ordered last week the release of 2,000 pages of judicial documents related to Epstein and his partner Ghislaine Maxwell, who are suspected of taking part in an international sex trafficking operation.

On July 4, we celebrated with friends at a lake house in North Texas. It turned out to be a great idea, especially when it was time to watch the fireworks.

Several police officers were asked to leave a Starbucks in Tempe, Arizona, by a barista who told them another patron did not feel safe in their presence. The incident took place on July 4, Independence Day, just before the six Tempe officers began a long shift. Recently, hundreds of students were pulled out of a public school in Rocklin, California by their parents because of a new LGBTQ curriculum beginning with 2nd graders. Friday’s 7.1 and Thursday’s 6.4 both had epicenters near the community of Ridgecrest. The Thursday quake was already the biggest to hit Southern California in 20 years.

Joe Biden says he has nothing to atone for over his opposition to school busing in the 1970s. He adds that this is an issue with which 99 percent of Americans are unfamiliar.
Biden is right on the first count. He need not apologize for opposing a regime that was unwise and unpopular. Good for him for refusing to do so. I would be more impressed if he didn’t couch his refusal in an assertion that the public is ignorant.
As to whether the public is as ignorant as Biden says, it may have been true two weeks ago that few Americans were familiar with the busing issue.

A magnitude-7.1 earthquake hit Southern California on Friday evening -- just a day after a magnitude-6.4 earthquake that was the largest temblor in the region in two decades, the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed.
The newest earthquake’s epicenter was about 10 miles north northeast of Ridgecrest, Calif., about 150 miles northeast of Los Angeles, in the same area where Thursday's quake occurred. The Ridgecrest area has had more than 100 aftershocks since Thursday's earthquake and experts warn there could be more to come. In areas of Kern County outside Ridgecrest, officials reported "multiple injuries and multiple fires," according to KABC-TV.
