New York Times journalist and editorial board member Mara Gay took aim at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) Friday after the Texas senator set the record straight on Colin Kaepernick’s failed attempt to turn a Frederick Douglass quote into a slam on America on Independence Day.“Frederick Douglass is an American hero, and his name has no business in your mouth,” Gay tweeted in response to Cruz’s thread, which added much-needed context to Kaepernick’s misleading quote. Apparently Mara, being partially black, is the boss of who can discuss black people. I think she just doesn’t like the truth.

Black racist asserting that non-blacks cannot quote famous historical blacks. She’s nowhere in the same league as Frederick Douglass, whom I admire, and I ain’t got no black genes nowhere. So there!

Just as Black racists believe that white people can't discuss black issues, I am tired of Black racists discussing and judging white issues.
Racists on both sides need to STFU.

And just who empowered Mara Gay, and her employer, to dictate what Ted Cruz is allowed to say?
Does she believe she owns Cruz?

Yes, that's the next logical step after reparations, #6. All white Americans should become slaves to blacks. It's only fair.

Mara would, I suspect, be horrified to find out that Frederick Douglass had a white wife. He also took guff for it from black militants of Mara's ilk, and laughed them off.
Unlike Mara, Frederick Douglass didn't like to put on tantrums for the amusement of white liberals, e.g., the Times.. Douglass broke with hyper-"woke" whites like William Lloyd Garrison, who had denounced the U.S. Constitution as a worthless compromise with evil. I paraphrase Dougass -- apologize if I don't get his wonderful quote 100% accurately, but this was its spirit -- "Why should I give the Constitution to slavers?"

Reminds me of the narcissist wife for whom everything she has is hers and everything he has is hers too. In fiction, in crime and in life if you are not lucky.

Frederick Douglass is an AMERICAN hero, not just a BLACK hero. He was an abolitionist and fiercely anti-slavery. How DARE this woman attempt to OWN him now!!!

Ms. Gay, it's you who should never utter Frederick Douglas's name. It's your party who enslaved your ancestors, fought a war to keep them slaves and when they lost that war, formed the KKK to lynch any Black man who dared to even look at a White woman.

Mara is just doing what all leftists do when they can’t win an argument. She’s just peeved that Cruz put that idiot Kaepernick in his place.

While one might wonder what belongs in Ms. Gay's mouth, her implication that a white man has no business speaking about Frederick Douglass because of his race ignores the fact that Douglas' father was white. As was his second wife.

Wrong, Miss fancy pants journalist. Frederick Douglas would speak against people like you. He might even call you what today's plantation blacks call Conservative blacks.

And the NYT bigotry continues. Sweetie, I hate to tell you, but we whites and Hispanics and Asians who are educated know more about black history than YOU apparently do. Cruz is more American than you will ever be. Somebody as hateful as you is not what I would call an American. Seriously, does she assume every Hispanic is not here legally? The NYT sure hires a lot of ignorance.

Her comment certainly violated official Times policy. But, can they seriously discipline a black? I don't think so.

Gay is an undereducated black cow. Douglass fought for the rights of women as well as men. You need not have been black. Furthermore, Gay, like many black dames, he was abandoned by his grandmother, just dumped. He never forgot what she did to him. How dare this half wit tell Cruz who he can bring up in a comparison.
As a European I have to say that I find blacks in the US the most racist people I have ever encountered. anywhere on the planet.

You see now why we must never elect people like this into office because they will abolish the 1st Amendment if substance if not in fact. Instead we need to push back hard in defense of our right to free speech. Cruz was right on.

It's the Half-ricans (mulattos) who are in the unique position to lord it over dark-skinned blacks, because they're 'more white,' while at the same time get to flame 'whitey' over issues of race and our slavery over 155 years ago. Notable names like Julian Bond, Jesse Jerkson, Kamala Harris for example.

See the problem with not teaching American history ? Pity the kids who will receive "Altered history" in class.
We are losing not only Freedom of Speech but Freedom of Religion. Remember, one woman took prayer out of schools. Speak now or forever hold your peace.
