Britain's Royal Air Force scrambled spy planes as it joined NATO in a huge hunt for a Russian submarine suspected of threatening a US aircraft carrier off Norway.
In what defence sources are calling a 'highly unusual surge' of activity, NATO allies have deployed at least 27 specialist submarine-hunting sorties since Sunday in an urgent bid to track the vessel.
The operation, which insiders insist is not a drill, comes as the USS Gerald R. Ford - the most advanced and expensive aircraft carrier in the world, worth around £11 billion, carries out exercises with the Norwegian Navy in Arctic waters.

I have real trouble imagining that the Russians intend to actually shoot at an American ship of any kind, let alone an aircraft carrier.
I think this a DM fever dream.

Too bad Sean Connery is no longer with us; he could play the lead in the movie that'll be made of this fiasco (like the "Hunt for Red October").

Who, at the Daily Mail (or any other news outlet), knows what really happened out there? Heh - they all think that we really don't know precisely where that sub is.

Ya...as IF we don't track and shadow Russian, Chinese, and EVERY other country's ships all of the time just for Practice. Likely what this is...they KNOW they have a Russian sub, and have called in everyone they can to "Give a listen", run tapes, and give operators REAL practice listening to a REAL Russian sub. While also tracking the training and evasive tactics/doctrine the current Russian Navy is using.(If the russians are smart they will generate extra/different noises so to have better evasion chances in the future. We lost a giant step of superiority under Clinton, he approved the sale of specialized machine tools, used for OUR stealthy more powerful props, used on ships and subs, claiming they couldn't be used "Militarily" by the Rooskies because they didn't have the computers or programs to achieve the same tolerances/standards...then...next term he ok'd the sale of THAT technology as well. Russian and Chines subs got new props, and became verrry hard to track.

English gov't trying to put on a show of national security concerns, when they have their own little "Joan d'Arc" public relations immigrant invasion fiasco going on to put the lie to their true "concerns" about citizens' and national security. Ref the 12 and 14 year old young girls arrested for defending themselves from apparent immigrant assault, amid the continuing wave of "culture clash" attacks by immigrants on European women. Don't trust the Europeans to defend themselves or others further than they can launched by medieval catapult.

First hint, this is the DMUK. How does one define this as a threat just by its being there? Subs shadow ships all over the world, it's what they do. If they are still searching for it, how do they know it's Russian?

The Euroweenies have become Eurococktailweenies. When they refuse to protect their women and girls from rutting barbarian vermin, they no longer deserve to be called a culture.

From what I understood the Russian sub fleet isn't doing very well, they probably don't go out very often so now everyone wants to get in on the action.

The Ford is never alone and always has an nuclear attack sub or two "hanging around" as a vital part of the carrier battle group. We never hear about them because why would the US Navy tell the media? Putin is upset because we just imposed a 50% tariff on India. So he has ordered a nuclear attack sub to trail the Ford and he has launched massive missile and drone attacks against Kiev apartment buildings, schools, and hospitals in his continuing terrorist actions against Ukraine. These messages are part of the political machinations between Putin and the US.

We shadow them, they shadow us, the name of the superpower game since the Cold War. The Russians learn a lot about NATO’s tracking capabilities during these types of exercises. The reality is that today, subs will use standoff weapons against military targets literally hundreds of miles away from their targets, not torpedoes.

What's the point of calling them "spy planes" and sending them on a supposedly secret mission if you're just going to announce your plans to the entire world?

Yeah, I'm betting this is just England with a clumsy attempt trying to con Trump into going to war with Russia, or at least giving more money and weapons to Zelenskyy to fight the NATO proxy war with Russia.... and maybe to get Trump to return to the "Five Eyes" fold despite their previous attempts to sabotage him.

#6 Clinton also allowed LORAL to sell missile staging and targeting technology to the Chicoms. Of couse LORAL CEO and founder Bernie Schwartz was a major Clinton and DNC campaign contributor.
Clinton and Gore also received campaign contributions from Chinese monks and nuns and then there was Charlie Trie.
They mockingly called Reagan "teflon" but nothing ever stuck to traitor slick

NATO shadows them, they shadow NATO. No different than the Cold War. Submarines today use standoff weapons not torpedoes except to dispose of burned out EV car carriers that pose a hazard to navigation or as an excuse for target practice to sink obsolete vessels for man made reeffs.

Oh please!! This is the DM which is a tabloid. They also publish that Trump has dementia, that inflation is on the rise, that the economy is tanking, that JD is incompetent and cannot talk, that everything is Trump's fault, that the Royals will accept idiot Harry again and other stupidity. Putin is smarter than that.

RAF and other NATO planes should drive the Russian sub into the path of a submerged American attack sub.
When Russia asks where the sub is, our reply would be "What sub?".
