Russia launched 270 drones and 10 missiles against Ukraine on August 19, in a kinetic response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's White House talks with US President Donald Trump and key European allies.
Ukrainian regional officials said that over 24 hours Russian shelling across the Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, and Kherson regions had claimed the lives of 15 people and injured at least 76 more.
It was reported that the Poltava region was hit particularly hard, leaving over 1,500 residents without electricity. In Chernihiv, drones damaged infrastructure and disrupted power supplies.

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre is heading back to Parliament after capturing victory in the Battle River—Crowfoot byelection.
The seat became available earlier this year when Conservative MP Damien Kurek stepped aside following the spring general election, opening the door for Poilievre to run in the rural Alberta riding.
Pierre's wife Anaida posted on X shortly after the results were projected: "Politics is up and down. People do it because they believe in something." [SNIP] "We are The Poilievres, and we are built on resilience, courage, and love for you all."

President Donald J. Trump predicted that MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace would soon get the ax at the troubled left-wing propaganda network, days after her profanity-laced on-air rant about peace in Ukraine.
The “Deadline: White House” host, who has been branded as “the Typhoid Mary of Disinformation” for her shameless disregard for the truth, raged after Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s successful talks in Alaska on Friday, proclaiming that Trump “doesn’t give a [SNIP] about democracy,” in her unhinged diatribe.

Russian reporters are whining about having to sleep on cots and being served old tuna for breakfast while covering the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska — but their own country may actually be to blame.
The Kremlin journalists griped that they’ve had to rough it on portable beds with no sheets set up at the Alaska Airlines Center sports arena in Anchorage, where they were hardly able to make phone calls.
They — gasp — even had to get by without bottled water.

Retired British Army Colonel Richard Kemp has said the primary risk the UK faces is from an alliance “of the hard left and Islamist extremists” and that he fears civil war because politicians are too myopic to take action.
Colonel Richard Kemp, a high-profile Infantry officer who fought counter insurgency on home ground in Northern Ireland in the 1980s, served in the Gulf war and Bosnia, commanded an Afghanistan operation, and who had political-facing senior roles in Westminster including the powerful Joint Intelligence Committee and the Cabinet Office crisis centre COBRA, has expressed concern about unrest and even civil war potentially breaking out in Britain.

A Republican consulting firm is warning that Google’s Gmail platform is disproportionately flagging Republican fundraising messages as spam while allowing similar Democratic solicitations to reach inboxes. [Snip] The firm said emails containing links to the Republican fundraising platform WinRed were, “in many cases, sending them directly to spam,” while identical test messages with links to the Democratic platform ActBlue were “delivered without issue.”

Apple is preparing a sweeping lineup of new hardware as part of a broader push into artificial intelligence and the smart home, according to people familiar with the plans. The centerpiece is a tabletop robot, targeted for release in 2027, that is designed to act as a lifelike virtual companion. The company is also developing a smart speaker with a display for next year, as well as home-security cameras that would anchor a new Apple-branded security system.

“India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits,” U.S. President Donald Trump posted last week on Truth Social. “They don’t care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA.” These words directly implicate buyers of Russian oil as accomplices in the murder of tens of thousands of Ukrainian people in the war started by the Kremlin on 24 February 2022, as indeed they have been.

George Soros turns 95 today, and for his birthday present America brought him the annihilation of his legacy.
Soros has been known for two things: making money and spending it on political influence. Over the last few years, he has handed over control of his empire to his son, Alex, and Alex seems unable to do either of those things successfully. [Snip] The second election of Donald Trump—in a race where crime, immigration, and the IRA were three of the major issues—was America’s personal slap to George Soros’ face. Today, on his 95th birthday, his legacy is in shambles.
Happy Birthday, George!

Beijing is quietly discouraging Chinese firms, particularly those tied to state and/or national security interests, from using Nvidia's H20 AI chips, even after the Trump administration reversed a U.S. sales ban in exchange for 15% of related revenue. The move follows Beijing's concerns over a potential "backdoor" in the H20, an allegation Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has rejected.
The report comes from the Financial Times, which states that regulators at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) instructed tech companies, such as Alibaba and ByteDance, to explain why they need H20 chips instead of sourcing domestic alternatives.

The White House is considering inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to President Trump’s highly anticipated face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska next week.
Discussions are underway about including Zelensky as the two world leaders prepare to meet in person on Friday in another bid to end Moscow’s 41-month-old invasion of Ukraine, senior White House officials and insiders told NBC News Saturday.
“It’s being discussed,” said one person briefed on the internal talks. While no visit has been finalized, a senior official said it’s “absolutely” possible the Kyiv leader could travel to the Last Frontier state for the pivotal summit.
“Everyone is very hopeful that would happen,” the official told the outlet.

Tech giant Apple is poised to announce a new investment of $100 billion in U.S. facilities as early as today, the White House said on Wednesday. President Donald Trump and Apple CEO Tim Cook appeared together at the White House to make the announcement.
According to a news release from Apple, the $100 billion represents "…a significant acceleration of its U.S. investment that now totals $600 billion over the next four years. Today’s announcement includes the ambitious new American Manufacturing Program (AMP), dedicated to bringing even more of Apple’s supply chain and advanced manufacturing to the U.S. ..."

Good news for Canadians interested in liberty and free enterprise in Canada. Canada's economic malaise from 2015-24 mirrored the USA's from 1971-80, and Poilievre's platform in 2025 rhymed with Ronald Reagan's in 1980. Recent election there was akin to what could have happened in the U.S. had we *re-elected* failed Jimmuh Carter for a second term. Canadians may get another chance to make Poilievre PM at a later date, but things will have to get even worse there for that to happen...
