Apple Plans AI Robots, Smarter Siri And
Home Devices In Bid To Regain Momentum

Apple is preparing a sweeping lineup of new hardware as part of a broader push into artificial intelligence and the smart home, according to people familiar with the plans. The centerpiece is a tabletop robot, targeted for release in 2027, that is designed to act as a lifelike virtual companion. The company is also developing a smart speaker with a display for next year, as well as home-security cameras that would anchor a new Apple-branded security system.

Comments:

Bad enough that Apple has a stranglehold on your phone (and maybe computer). Now they want to put AI robots into your home to nag you and also supplant all of your home security devices. Tim Cook should apply for the role of "Big Brother" in the next movie rendition of 1984.

A man was speaking to his wife in a low voice. "Speak Up!" she said. "I can barely hear you!" "I think all these 'smart devices' are listening to us." he said. "That's Silly!" she said. And she laughed. And Siri laughed. And Cortana laughed. And Alexa laughed.

President Trump should be a bit more skeptical about AI. For now, a lot of it is crap, but some of it is very dangerous and will get more dangerous and intrusive with time. Everything and everybody wants your biometrics these days. We're not far from the days of the mark. For our protection. For sure.

I fear the tech, apps, helper devices, etc., now AI - all are progressing and advancing faster than a significant portion of the population can grasp and keep up. And they insinuate and infiltrate ever more of our personal lives. Cold pot of water on the stove, filled with unsuspecting frogs.

AI is filling the gaps that public education has created through incompetence and the artificial intelligence is about as valuable as what they have been teaching our children for the past forty years or so. You can't order a book or make an online appointment without being annoyed by "help."

The other day my call history on my iPhone disappeared. There were any number of scary fixes available. Then I saw the one where you shout "hey Siri and state your problem. So I dfd it. A female voice came back "I found 27 calls" Then said I "I don't see them on my phone" and up they popped. Might make me a believer.

All that makes me want to run further away, screaming, from Apple. People are rushing blindly to embrace the technology and society of every dystopian novel and movie ever produced. "You want Skynet? This is how you get Skynet!!!" . "1984" was not supposed to be an operations manual. Nor was "Camp of the Saints". 40 years ago, if you told me that people would be clamoring for "The Mark Of The Beast" rather than having it forced upon them, I'd have thought you insane. But, on the bright side so many of the world's governments are trying to start a global nuclear war, so maybe that will bomb us back into the stone age and make all my worries above moot.

Beijing is quietly discouraging Chinese firms, particularly those tied to state and/or national security interests, from using Nvidia's H20 AI chips, even after the Trump administration reversed a U.S. sales ban in exchange for 15% of related revenue. The move follows Beijing's concerns over a potential "backdoor" in the H20, an allegation Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has rejected. The report comes from the Financial Times, which states that regulators at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) instructed tech companies, such as Alibaba and ByteDance, to explain why they need H20 chips instead of sourcing domestic alternatives.

A federal appeals court panel has cleared the way for the Trump administration to largely dismantle the work of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, lifting a lower-court judge’s injunction that had preserved the agency’s structure — and barred mass layoffs — for months. The 2-1 ruling, authored by Judge Gregory Katsas, said a series of legal defects in the lawsuit brought by CFPB employees and the NAACP doomed the case and required the district court judge’s blockade to be lifted. Katsas, a Trump appointee, said the fatal flaw was the broad challenge against what the employees described as a master plan to shutter the agency altogether.
