Russia launched 270 drones and 10 missiles against Ukraine on August 19, in a kinetic response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's White House talks with US President Donald Trump and key European allies.
Ukrainian regional officials said that over 24 hours Russian shelling across the Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, and Kherson regions had claimed the lives of 15 people and injured at least 76 more.
It was reported that the Poltava region was hit particularly hard, leaving over 1,500 residents without electricity. In Chernihiv, drones damaged infrastructure and disrupted power supplies.

Where's the map? Looks like most of these are the Russia speaking areas of Ukraine where they have outlawed speaking russian, outlawed the Orthodox church; the areas that Putin would want to bring back to the historical part of Russia. In other words it is the war progressing forward to take territory, like has been going on for over 3 years.

If there is no cease fire and no peace agreement, then it's business as usual. Zelenskyy has set this process back by more than a few months. His antics have consequences.

Russia will get territory, that's a given. Will it be within their official borders? Maybe.
Putin reminded Ukraine they can keep this up for a long time, but the people in Ukraine want it to end. That's called leverage in the negotiations.
Europe wants to stick their noses into the situation but waited too long to truly help Ukraine.
What everyone will now want is the be part of the rebuild in Ukraine which will be hundreds of billions of dollars in new business.
Same with all of those countries now looking to get to the 5% of GDP for their own military expenses, that will also be a huge growth industry.
Suddenly, there's peace and LOTS of prosperity.

Reagan used our economy to destroy the Soviets. True it took a little while. I can imagine tariffs increasing on Russia's trade partners. India won't like that. China.... China might be in far worse shape than we're hearing. In other words, we won't be the only people telling Putin to put a lid on it.

This is what happens when we don't understand how significantly our cultures differ, especially regarding military conflicts and death. The US emphasizes minimizing casualties and maximizing technological superiority while Russia accepts that casualties are a necessary part of pursuing their military objectives. It can be a major mistake to think that our culture is the standard by which all other cultures should be judged. Just because we feel saving lives is a noble cause doesn't mean that others will ever think the same. Putin likely has no concerns about the damage and destruction of the drone attacks yesterday; it is merely a necessary means to an end. If we want to achieve peace in Ukraine we'd better understand Russian culture and why Putin acts the way he does.

I was trying to find some analysis of the Alaska meet-up. This was a good one. Like when you ask a parent for something not on their list and got the answer back, "We'll see."

Putin’s trying to hold on to his manhood. It’s part of the game.

There is more to the story....Ukraine also launched "massive" drone strikes before, or during, or after...Targeting Russian petroleum refineries. The Kiev media coverage of that and this particular RFE story were published within minutes of each other. They were also posted here within minutes of each other...the other story is two above this one in the feed.

Ironically, there is another story, almost at the same time, of a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia.
Reminds of the Russian and Eastern European face slapping contests. Two big hulking guys stand opposite each other at a table. Each takes a turn slapping their opponent. The goal is to either knock them out or stun them so much that their opponent cannot respond in 30 seconds. These 'contests' can go on for a while. Those contests remind me of the war.
Have to imagine many civilians are looking for a peaceful relocation spot about now. Both Ukrainian and Russian.

We all know from PDJT's public statements that he wants peace, if for no reason other than to prevent 7.000 deaths per week. Sadly, there's no indication that Putin wants peace... more like a large piece of Ukraine.
