Trump’s ‘Deadly Serious’ Russia
Squeeze Shown in Big Tariffs on Ally India

“India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits,” U.S. President Donald Trump posted last week on Truth Social. “They don’t care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA.” These words directly implicate buyers of Russian oil as accomplices in the murder of tens of thousands of Ukrainian people in the war started by the Kremlin on 24 February 2022, as indeed they have been.

Comments:

If PDJT wants to apply a torch to Modi's butt, all he has to do is put an end to H1-B Visas, cancel student Visas, and put travel restrictions in place, too. Lots of Indians expect to come to America, whether official relations are warm or not. If they're prohibited by Modi's behavior, he'll get blowback and fold like a cheap suit.

Indians getting too big for their saris. Anybody helping Russia at this point is an accomplice to the murder of thousands of people. Reselling the oil for profit is an additional stick in the eye.

We(PDT) are posturing 1. We told India to buy gas and sell to the rest of the world to keep the balance of oil supply (when the war started) 2. Europe buys from Russia in a month what India buys in year (in value) so why single India out 3. US imports uranium from Russia 4. We are going to take Pakistan’s side? We did that in 1971 when Bangladesh was liberated; we sent money and arms to Pakistan because of our Afghan and Iran interests and they used it for terrorism. Our values align with Pakistan’s or India’s? Or are we about people and liberty and all that only when it’s convenient? We can be angry about other topics like H1B but the west has always been pi**ed off that India won’t act like the lapdog. We keep telling India “do as I say , not as I do”. It’s not going to work

#4: You're engaging in non-sense. 1.) FJB (not PDJT) allowed India to be the "free-money" arbitrage middlemen so that Europe could still get Russian oil. 2.) I don't believe you. Cite credible sources. Most credible sources indicate Europe is buying Russian oil that passes through Indian hands. 3.) Possibly. But more it's likely that we are simply buying uranium US from stores US that Hillary Clinton sold to Putin as Sec. State in 2012. 4.) Your use of the word "Pakistan" is its first occurrence anywhere in the article or comment thread. Considering Pakistan's duplicity in harboring bin Laden, few Americans have much sympathy for them. But inducing death from thirst in 250 million innocent people because it control's Pakistan's water spigot isn't a good way for India to win friends and influence people elsewhere in the world. If India truly wants to go its own way, then fine. We're allowed to counter that by restricting India's access to America's markets and the travel and employment of Indian nationals here. In the future, India should also not contact us for satellite intelligence and arms when China engages in chicanery in Himalayas. Ironically, I can foresee China doing to the Ganges what India is doing presently with the Indus. When 800 million Indians are dying of thirst, they can proudly proclaim that they might lose their lives and land to China, but they died independent of American influence. Brilliant!

If it's true that the tariffs have already started making meaningful reductions in our national debt (as has been teased in recent reports), then PDJT may be tempted to aim for that legacy, even tempted enough to overplay his hand.

This site is a salon not a saloon; do your own search rather than attacking me. • The EU continues importing significantly higher non-fossil goods from Russia each month (~€2.4 bn) than India (~€1.0 bn), when we strip out crude oil. • These figures suggest that, while fossil fuels dominate India’s Russian imports, the EU maintains a more diversified imports portfolio from Russia—heavily weighted toward things like fertilizers, metals, and industrial products.

#7: Lady, I'm not attacking *you*, I'm dissecting your very weak arguments. The fact that you can't support them is your problem, not mine. This entire post was -- and is -- about crude oil. Crude oil exports are what feeds the Russian war machine. Other stuff matters, but not like crude oil. And when challenged on this, you conveniently attempt to shift the discussion -- like a magician waving a shiny object in one hand while discouraging a view of the other -- to "non-fossil goods"... By the way, you didn't even cite a source for your claim on non-fossil goods... and by your own words, the amount of non-fossil goods India is buying is a decent percentage of Europe's (41%) on a monthly basis, not the 8.5% per annum that you insinuated in item number 2 of reply #4.

Beijing is quietly discouraging Chinese firms, particularly those tied to state and/or national security interests, from using Nvidia's H20 AI chips, even after the Trump administration reversed a U.S. sales ban in exchange for 15% of related revenue. The move follows Beijing's concerns over a potential "backdoor" in the H20, an allegation Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has rejected. The report comes from the Financial Times, which states that regulators at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) instructed tech companies, such as Alibaba and ByteDance, to explain why they need H20 chips instead of sourcing domestic alternatives.
