No economist ‘without a strong political
agenda’ says Trump bill good for economy

Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers railed against President Trump’s massive tax and spending bill, saying no objective economist would characterize the legislation as a boon to the economy. “There is no economist anywhere, without a strong political agenda, who is saying that this bill is a positive for the economy. And the overwhelming view is that it is probably going to make the economy worse,” Summers told ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos in a Sunday interview on “This Week.”“Think about it this way,” he continued. “How long can the world’s greatest debtor remain the world’s greatest power?

Why do these Democrats ignore the successful history of the Reagan tax cuts and the cuts in Trump’s first term? The truth is that Democrats use taxes to control people. To them, taxes are for punishment. I think Democrats are genetically disposed to being unhappy and miserable. I do believe there is an “unhappy” gene and libs are proof.

Gee, that reminds me of Comey's words regarding the HildBeast email scandal.... “Although there is evidence of potential violations regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case,” he said.

The problem may not be a political agenda, but an economic ideology that is at odds with economic reality. If one believes all tariffs are bad, then you will not consider that they can used in any beneficial way. Trump is using tariffs as bargaining chips. The international trade imbalances has been constantly in favor of other countries shows that other countries have been profiting at our expense.

Yeh. Tariffs are so bad that everyone but us was using them. You know, a key part of a magic act is 'misdirection.' They're all looking at the lost illegal workers, the tariffs, the cut in taxes, etc etc, and they're paying no attention to the $15 Trillion in pledges/planned investment coming in from overseas. Remember that the growth Trump 1 had came from $2 Trillion of repatriated profits. Sure, not happening overnight but.... it IS happening.

Summers is nothing but a government propagandist. Last person I listen to. I prefer to do my own thinking rather than listen to clowns. Saw another article claiming the debt ceiling was increased by 5 trillion dollars. That metallic rattling you are hearing is the debt can being kicked down the road. At this point, one of my priorities is protecting myself from bad government policy. I seriously doubt our government can be fixed.

Meteorologists have argued that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Weather Service (NWS) did their jobs well during the devastating Texas flash floods — and even had “extra” staff on hand for the storm — despite Democrats’ claims that the Trump administration’s cuts to the agencies contributed to the loss of life over the holiday weekend. Even establishment media outlets like the Associated Press (AP) have reported on the weather community’s pushback on that narrative, while the Democratic National Committee (DNC) sent out memos arguing that the Trump administration “refused to backfill key roles … likely contributing to preventable deaths and worsened devastation.”

On June 27, the court delivered an important result for parental rights and religious liberty in Mahmoud v. Taylor. In one of the higher-profile opinions this term, a 6-3 majority sided with a group of religious parents against the attempted imposition of LGBT ideology on public school children. The court held that the Montgomery County, Maryland, school district’s “introduction of the ‘LGBTQ+-inclusive’ storybooks, combined with its decision to withhold notice to parents and to forbid opt outs, substantially interferes with the religious development of petitioners’ children and imposes the kind of burden on religious exercise that Yoder [a 1972 Supreme Court precedent] found unacceptable.”

Rescuers scoured a devastated central Texas landscape of mangled trees, overturned cars and muck-filled debris Saturday in an increasingly bleak mission to locate survivors, including 27 girls who have not been seen since their camp was slammed with a wall of water in a historic flash flood. The flooding in Kerr County killed at least 43 people, including 15 children, and at least eight people died in nearby counties. Authorities still have not said how many people were missing beyond the children from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp along a river in Kerr County where most of the dead were recovered.

Last week I visited New York City, a place that for generations has represented the magnificence of the American experiment. The economic dynamism of Wall Street, the fine arts of Broadway, and the sports sanctuaries of Madison Square Garden and Yankee Stadium have all made the city exceptional. My early-morning walks downtown along the Hudson River, with the Statue of Liberty in sight, reminded me why America is a beacon of opportunity for people from every corner of the world — including my grandparents, who came to escape religious persecution in Eastern Europe. One year from now, you will not be able to turn around without receiving notice of America’s semiquincentennial jubilee. The jollity of the occasion will not change the fact that it will be seven years premature. The historical significance assigned to July 4, 1776, the date the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Second Continental Congress, is befuddling. Without victory in the Revolutionary War, which began over a year earlier, any declarations regarding American independence made during the summer of 1776 would have the same significance today as the “declarations of independence” made by the 11 Confederate States in 1860-61.

Republicans muscled President Donald Trump’s tax and spending cut bill through the House on Thursday, the final step necessary to get the bill to his desk by the GOP’s self-imposed deadline of July 4th. At nearly 900 pages, the legislation is a sprawling collection of tax breaks, spending cuts and other Republican priorities, including new money for national defense and deportations. Democrats united against the legislation, but were powerless to stop it as long as Republicans stayed united. The Senate passed the bill, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tiebreaking vote. The House passed an earlier iteration of the bill in May with just one vote to spare.

Senator Dick Durbin blocked the release of the “client list” in the legislative branch of the government. The government said it had “client lists” on its desk.

As lawmakers begin crafting the 12 annual appropriations bills to fund the federal government in fiscal year 2026, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has implied that his party will refuse to cooperate in the process if Republicans revoke billions in funding from previous years.
