Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers railed against President Trump’s massive tax and spending bill, saying no objective economist would characterize the legislation as a boon to the economy.
“There is no economist anywhere, without a strong political agenda, who is saying that this bill is a positive for the economy. And the overwhelming view is that it is probably going to make the economy worse,” Summers told ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos in a Sunday interview on “This Week.”“Think about it this way,” he continued. “How long can the world’s greatest debtor remain the world’s greatest power?

They also said tariffs would destroy the economy. Ignore them.

The Biden Clown show gave away more money and increased the debt more than any administration in history but not a word from the doomsayers over that. The inflation reduction act alone was a barn-buster and build-back-better built nothing.

The same economists and leftist hacks like Krugman who have literally been wrong about every major thing they've said for their entire careers.

Why do these Democrats ignore the successful history of the Reagan tax cuts and the cuts in Trump’s first term? The truth is that Democrats use taxes to control people. To them, taxes are for punishment. I think Democrats are genetically disposed to being unhappy and miserable. I do believe there is an “unhappy” gene and libs are proof.

Summers can spout all this nonsense because he knows he will face no consequences for being WRONG!

Considering the source of the criticism, I'm even more in favor of the Big Beautiful (Boondoggle) Bill than I was before.
The difference between a stopped clock and "economists" like Summers and Krugman is a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Gee, that reminds me of Comey's words regarding the HildBeast email scandal....
“Although there is evidence of potential violations regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case,” he said.

The opening sentence should be changed to 'President Trump’s massive tax 'relief' and spending 'cuts' bill' to be accurate. Seeing as it is the Shill I would not expect any clarity. Just throwing red meat to the mentally unstable base they cater to.

The problem may not be a political agenda, but an economic ideology that is at odds with economic reality. If one believes all tariffs are bad, then you will not consider that they can used in any beneficial way. Trump is using tariffs as bargaining chips. The international trade imbalances has been constantly in favor of other countries shows that other countries have been profiting at our expense.

I wonder, did 51 economists sign a letter stating that the Big Beautiful Bill was going to destroy the economy?

The bill and Trump's agenda is good for the economy. It is not good for the advancement of socialism, which is why the Democrats and Larry Summers oppose it.

Yeh. Tariffs are so bad that everyone but us was using them.
You know, a key part of a magic act is 'misdirection.' They're all looking at the lost illegal workers, the tariffs, the cut in taxes, etc etc, and they're paying no attention to the $15 Trillion in pledges/planned investment coming in from overseas. Remember that the growth Trump 1 had came from $2 Trillion of repatriated profits. Sure, not happening overnight but.... it IS happening.

Well...I am impressed with his knowledge of what should be done...of course he failed misserably when he was in charge...so it follows he doesn't want anyone to succeed...and let's remember who was interviewing him...ole Georgie...who lost one court case...does he want another....the numbers tell me WE are on a roll to success...with all the poll numbers in the positive margin....even the stock market is having a very positive couple of weeks...

Summers is nothing but a government propagandist. Last person I listen to. I prefer to do my own thinking rather than listen to clowns.
Saw another article claiming the debt ceiling was increased by 5 trillion dollars. That metallic rattling you are hearing is the debt can being kicked down the road.
At this point, one of my priorities is protecting myself from bad government policy. I seriously doubt our government can be fixed.
