Swalwell: We Need to Probe if Trump’s
National Weather Service Cuts Impacted
TX Flood Warnings

Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) said Tuesday on CNN’s “News Central” that Congress has a “responsibility” to look into whether the Trump administration’s cuts to the National Weather Service affected the amount of deviation of the deadly central Texas floods. Co-host Kate Bolduan said, “To is these deadly floods in Texas as these the search continues for the missing there are big questions being raised about the warnings that happened and the impacts also of cuts to — that the Trump administration had made to the National Weather Service.”

Comments:

Nice try, Phartwell, but those cuts are not critical personel and don't even take effect until OCTOBER, after the end of Hurricane season.

#1 - Knowing people at NWS, there were cuts to staff. People took the buy outs and people were let go. None were replaced. OP, these were not secretaries and janitors and cuts were immediate. This did not impact the warnings or communications from NWS in Texas specific to this event. Swallwell is still an idiot, but NWS cuts were real.

I used to work in the USAF weather service and was in touch with civilian weather people for years afterward. The weather forecasters did their jobs. It seems to me that local and state agencies need better warning systems and that local citizens need to be smarter about looking out for themselves. A big problem in this disaster was that the storm knocked the power out. The public address system at that camp did not work because the power was out. And apparently there were rules about cell phone use that caused the camp counselors to not get any warnings on their cell phones. People's memories are short and they seemed to have forgotten the floods in 1987. All those camps and tourist places should have been watching for flash flooding as soon as the forecast said rain. Then when you hear thunder and have lightening flashing, most people will wake up from a sleep. That was the time to go to higher ground.

NPR reported that according to officials, the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet within 45 minutes. That was going to happen no matter how many NWS employees were helplessly watching events unfold. To suggest President Trump is to blame for the catastrophic flooding that nobody, including Swalwell saw coming, is a cheap shot from an unserious political hack trying to win points for a hopelessly unserious political party.

During a heated exchange on CNN, Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky and anchor Abby Phillip went berserk after Scott Jennings pointed out a simple, inconvenient truth: Under President Donald Trump, the price of eggs has dropped — just as he promised. It all started when Jennings highlighted the economic success of Trump’s policies. “The core CPI forecast was 3%. It came in at 2.9. For the five months of Trump’s administration, inflation has matched or beat expectations,” he said. He added that the economy is “booming with new investments” and that the administration has reason to be “bullish on America.” Jennings pointed to Trump’s push to make the 2017 tax cuts permanent
