Democrats threaten government shutdown
if GOP passes $9.4 billion rescissions bill

Original Article

As lawmakers begin crafting the 12 annual appropriations bills to fund the federal government in fiscal year 2026, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has implied that his party will refuse to cooperate in the process if Republicans revoke billions in funding from previous years. The Senate is set to vote on a rescissions package that narrowly passed the House in June and would cancel already appropriated federal funds for public broadcasting and some foreign aid programs. Republicans only need a majority vote for the legislation to pass. The Rescissions Act of 2025, compiled by the Office of Management and Budget, requests the cancellation of federal spending deemed wasteful

Comments:

That Schumer is one brilliant strategist. Shutting down America because he can't get Republicans to spend our money supplying condoms to another continent.

FTA: ''...Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has implied that his party will refuse to cooperate in the process if Republicans revoke billions in funding from previous years.'' Isn't that like saying ''I spent myself deep into debt with my new home, new SUV, new wardrobe and my wife's and my constant vacations. I refuse to give up my outlandish lifestyle because Trump says we're too far into debt.''

If all that is needed is a majority and Republicans HAVE that majority, isn't Chuckie's threat empty rhetoric? Of course everything the Left is doing is empty, useless, and impotent. That is why they are so angry. Ranting, however, is not a policy, and when it slips into hysteria it exposes the dearth of thought and capability in the dem party and their allies. Add to that the complete loss of the power to persuade due to the voluntary collapse of the media and the crippling of the professional Deep State and the Left doesn't have much to work with.

"Government shutdowns" are a favorite weapon of congressional Democrats because none of their constituencies are adversely affected by them and one of the largest, "nonessential" Federal employees, actually score additional paid vacation time. If the Trump Administration announced that Federal employees who don't work during any shutdowns won't be paid they would quickly cease to be Schumer's weapon of choice.

There are some great government employees, but way too many are in make-work jobs where they do next to nothing. It's a problem with all government function. Vietnam thought it had a preliminary deal with the U.S. to lower its tariff level substantially. Then, at the last minute, President Donald Trump raised the rate. As a result, the Vietnamese government still has not formally accepted a key part of the agreement the president touted on social media last week, despite Trump’s claim in the post that the terms had been agreed to by Vietnam’s leader, Tô Lâm. And neither side has released documentation of those terms, raising questions about whether they did, in fact, reach an agreement, as the White House labors to prove it is making headway in its trade negotiations with dozens of major partners.

The Trump administration has sued California over its animal cruelty laws, saying the state's regulation of chicken farms has led to high egg prices across the country. Lowering the cost of eggs, which spiked in recent years as an avian flu outbreak ravaged American flocks, was one of President Donald Trump's key campaign promises in the lead-up to the 2024 election. But almost six months into his second mandate, his administration has struggled to keep the cost of the staple down. The administration now says California's regulations create "unnecessary red tape" in the production of eggs and are responsible for stubbornly high prices.

Longtime "60 Minutes" correspondent Steve Kroft and "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart bashed Paramount Global and CBS’ eight-figure settlement with President Donald Trump as giving into a "shakedown" on Monday. Kroft appeared on Paramount-owned Comedy Central to discuss the settlement with Stewart, who didn’t pull punches when discussing his own employer. Kroft, who retired from the show in 2019 after a 30-year run, said his former colleagues are devastated that CBS and its parent company settled Trump’s "election interference" lawsuit. "I think there is a lot of fear over there… fear of losing their job, fear of what’s happening to the country, fear of losing the First Amendment," Kroft said.

Florida cannot enforce a new law that would bar illegal immigrants from entering the Sunshine State, the Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday. “The application for stay presented to Justice Thomas and by him referred to the Court is denied,” read the order rejecting Florida’s emergency appeal to the high court. No justices dissented, and the court did not provide a written opinion explaining the order. US District Judge Kathleen Williams, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, blocked Florida from enforcing the new law in April.
