Harvard Law School professor Jack Goldsmith, a noted critic of former President Donald Trump, published a “guest essay” in the New York Times on Tuesday warning of “terrible consequences” for the country in the ongoing prosecutions of Trump.
Goldsmith, who served in the George W. Bush administration, warned Times readers that while they might enjoy the idea of Trump being indicted and possibly imprisoned, the other half of the country did not see it that way, and would seek revenge:
This deeply unfortunate timing [of the indictments] looks political and has potent political implications even if it is not driven by partisan motivations. And it is the Biden administration’s responsibility,

The strike in Hollywood has been grinding on for several months now. And while it gets plenty of media coverage, we’re not hearing much about productive discussions or progress toward a resolution. I have a couple of friends who are guild members and they keep me updated on some of the talks, but nobody seems terribly hopeful, or at least not yet. But while I always feel sympathetic for the people out of work, a thought struck me this week when I was reading one of the latest updates from CNN. This has been going on for roughly 100 days now. Assuming that you’re not one of the striking members

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio voters on Tuesday resoundingly rejected a Republican-backed measure that would have made it more difficult to change the state’s constitution, setting up a fall campaign that will become the nation’s latest referendum on abortion rights since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned nationwide protections last year.(Snip)Dennis Willard, a spokesperson for the opposition campaign One Person One Vote, called Issue 1 a “deceptive power grab” that was intended to diminish the power of the state’s voters. “Tonight is a major victory for democracy in Ohio,” Willard told a jubilant crowd at the opposition campaign’s watch party. “The majority still rules in Ohio.”

Those who walk amid the weeds of political analysis will remember how much we discussed the very specific alignment of stars that created the very unique opportunity for Donald Trump to finally reveal the depth, scale and scope of the corruption in the U.S. body politic.
Amid those discussions, and in the challenging months and years that followed, a small but incredibly important aspect were the personal characteristics, traits and very unique perspectives of Melania Trump. Perhaps a lioness, but an incredible woman who fortifies Donald Trump, candidate Trump and President Trump. Without Melania in the arsenal, there simply is no Great MAGA King to fight this battle.

Issue 1, an Ohio ballot measure to raise the threshold required to pass a constitutional amendment, failed on Tuesday in a tough defeat for conservatives who sought to make it more difficult for special-interest groups to influence the state constitution. The “no” choice to keep the simple-majority threshold under current law was winning with nearly 59.4 percent, with an estimated 44.8 percent of the vote counted, the Washington Post projected just after 9 p.m. EDT. Ohio has used a simple-majority requirement since 1912, but Issue 1 would have bumped the threshold up to 60 percent. Ahead of the special election,

Ten regional banks have had their credit ratings slashed by risk assessment firm Moody's - which warned it was considering downgrading another six.
Major lenders Bank of New York Mellon, U.S. Bancorp, State Street and Truist Financial, Cullen/Frost Bankers and Northern Trust are now under review, and the agency also assigned a negative outlook to 11 further banks, including major institutions Capital One and Citizens Financial.
Bank stocks fell this morning following the announcement, which renewed fears about the health of the US banking sector amid increased interest rates and recent failures.

As my colleague Sister Toldjah reported earlier, Joe Biden was scheduled to be at the Grand Canyon on Tuesday for about 45 minutes, and he’s supposed to give an interview to the Weather Channel, talking about “extreme weather.” I’m sure that’s going to be a hard-hitting interview. But first, Biden spoke for about 15 minutes at the Red Butte Airfield nearby, about conservation and his climate agenda, to what appeared to be a small audience. He also spoke about how he was going to designate a new national monument.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has urged House Republicans to avoid impeaching President Joe Biden.
Speaking to the New York Times in an interview published Tuesday, McConnell said that he does not want to continue the impeachment cycle that Democrats started two years ago when they impeached former President Trump on dubious charges.
“I said two years ago, when we had not one but two impeachments, that once we go down this path it incentivizes the other side to do the same thing,” McConnell said. “Impeachment ought to be rare,” he added. “This is not good for the country.”

During an interview with NBC News on Monday, 2024 Republican presidential candidate Florida Gov. As a general rule, a prosecutor can’t establish criminality unless he demonstrates criminal intent. For that reason, Special Counsel Jack Smith is trying to establish that President Trump knew for a fact that he had lost the election. I have a problem with Smith’s reasoning because, to this day, I am certain that Trump did not lose the election. Here is some of the evidence.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to freeze a lower court order that bars the government from regulating so-called ghost guns – untraceable homemade weapons – as firearms under federal law.
The brief order grants the Biden administration’s request to allow the regulations to remain in effect while legal challenges play out. Ghost guns are kits that a user can buy online to assemble a fully functional firearm. They have no serial numbers, do not require background checks and provide no transfer records for easy traceability. Critics say they are attractive to people who are legally prohibited from buying firearms.

Moody's is downgrading the credit ratings of 10 small- to mid-sized banks, citing growing financial risks and strains that could erode their profitability. The credit ratings agency also warned it is watching some of the nation's biggest lenders for potential downgrades.
The actions come after a banking crisis that started in March with the sudden collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, once the nation's 16th largest bank, when depositors grew fearful of the bank's solvency and made a classic bank run. Signature Bank and First Republic Bank soon followed, leading to more concerns about the banking industry's stability.

Ohio voters joined massive lines Tuesday to vote on a measure that would make it substantially harder to change the constitution to turn back a legislative push and enshrine abortion rights.
Many of the longest lines were in urban areas that tend to be Democratic strongholds, but due to a series of factors it was difficult to tell which side in the caustic debate the turnout could favor.
The issue that has activists seething and ordinary voters brushing off scorching temperatures is an effort to raise the bar for changes to the state constitution – from a simple majority to a 60 per cent supermajority.

Beginning in the summer of 2020, when myriad states, legally and illegally, changed their voting rules in a way that removed all safeguards against fraud, it was clear that there might be problems in November. Then, on election night, six major precincts — election outcome–changing precincts — stopped counting votes altogether. When you add in all the other evidence adduced in subsequent weeks showing fraud (including Biden's unbelievably soaring vote count long after the election ended), there was good reason to question the election. Mike Pence has now conceded that he believes he could at least have opened the path to question election fraud.

The elites may have to hold one of their show trials in Florida, but the grand jury had to be in D.C.
Judge Aileen Cannon on Monday asked the Justice Department to explain its use of an out-of-state grand jury in the Mar-a-Lago case.
While the Mar-a-Lago case is being handled out of her Fort Pierce, Fla., courtroom, much of the grand jury work ahead of the indictment was conducted through a Washington, D.C., grand jury.
A D.C. grand jury is an obvious rubber stamp for political prosecutors. A D.C. grand jury would indict a ham sandwich, as long as it was a Republican. That’s why the real show is in Washington D.C.

As I have reported previously at PJ Media, the Democrat Party and their proxies in the corporate state media (which is all of it, all the time, with the possible exception of Fox News, although even that network is highly suspect) are positively beside themselves about third-party candidate Cornel West and his perceived deleterious effect on the Brandon entity’s re-election prospects in 2024: [Tweet] Now, on cue, the corporate state media is framing Cornel West as an illegitimate spoiler candidate getting in the way of the Brandon entity’s re-coronation as lord of the plantation — even going so far as to accuse him of “stealing” votes, particularly black votes,

President Joe Biden will soon ask Congress for a Ukraine aid package that could exceed $10 billion, a report released Tuesday found.
Punchbowl News reported the Ukraine aid battle will resume when Congress returns from recess. The incoming request, which could be “north of $10 billion,” follows as Ukraine continues its slow-moving counteroffensive against Russia, and America and other NATO countries have pledged support for Ukraine.
The Army’s acquisition chief told reporters on Monday that the Department of Defense was working on a funding package for lawmakers to consider. The package would be used to replenish American weapon stockpiles which have been depleted after providing munitions to Ukraine’s protracted conflict with Russia.

Seems like every day someone is finding new, fun types of election fraud. This is not accidenta --, this is exactly how industrial, at-scale, organized fraud is uncovered. We call it spiraling to accuracy.
When our team was hired by State Farm, GEICO, USAA, and other top insurers to stop organized auto fraud rings, we found the easy stuff fast -- the equivalent of phantom voters.
Later, our analysis spiraled deeper into complex data relationships, identifying real-time, sophisticated, organized fraud. Think of doctor/lawyer/chiro rings, modifying names, organizing fender benders with Ethiopian and Nigerian “victims” ringing up thousands of claims.

Former NCAA Division 1 athletes Riley Gaines and Paula Scanlan were among those who were targeted by "hostile" protesters that gathered in Texas on Monday in opposition of the "Save Women’s Sports Act."
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was joined by Gaines and Scanlan at the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame at Texas Woman’s University in Denton for a ceremonial signing of the bill, which was previously signed into law in June. But according to those in attendance, protesters that gathered at the event threw items and spat at those who gathered in support of the legislation. (Snip) I guess the best word to describe them was they were rabid.

A federal appeals court blocked President Biden's administration from implementing rules aimed at providing debt relief to student loan borrowers who were misled by their colleges Monday. The ruling from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals is the latest defeat for Biden's efforts to forgive student loans across the country. The court granted a request from a for-profit college in Texas seeking an injunction against the administration's rule change.
The block is temporary, and the three-judge panel will hear the case in full later this year. The Biden administration's rule changes would have expanded the number of student loan borrowers who are eligible for debt relief as well as facilitated

In 2015, David Burge (Iowahawk) posted a now-famous tweet describing leftism: “1. Identify a respected institution. 2. Kill it. 3. Gut it. 4. Wear its carcass as a skin suit, while demanding respect.” In that short tweet, he perfectly described what leftism has done to the Judeo-Christian religion. And that act of wearing a religion’s “carcass as a skin suit, while demanding respect” is the best caption possible for a video in which a female Presbyterian minister, draped in a Planned Parenthood stole, celebrates her abortion and abortions generally.

Three California residents last week filed a lawsuit against Tesla for what they claim is false advertising over the car’s range. But why stop at Tesla? And why just sue over false claims about range when every other claim about EVs is also a lie?
The lawsuit comes in the wake of a Reuters report contending that Tesla had been goosing the range displayed on its dashboard and created a “diversion team” to deal with all the customer complaints about faulty batteries.
The filing claims that “Had Tesla honestly advertised its electric vehicle ranges, consumers either would not have purchased

Ginormous toxic hammerhead worms - which can grow up to 15 inches - have invaded DC backyards as the slithering creatures shock residents and have scientists warning about getting too close.
Americans are being advised to avoid touching the foot-long flatworms, which feast on slugs, snails and earthworms by paralyzing them with the same potent neurotoxin found in deadly puffer fish.
Also known as spade-headed garden worms, the slippery specimens excrete a septic slime, which can be harmful to humans if ingested.

Former Vice President Mike Pence has attained the qualifications to attend the first primary debate for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.
Pence's team announced on Monday that his campaign had surpassed 40,000 individual donors, Politico reported. That number is one of the Republican National Committee's requirements to attend the debate on Aug 23 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The former vice president also reached the other needed qualifications, which include polling at least 1% nationally. He is the eighth candidate to qualify, and he's possibly the last.

Parents of U.S. service members killed in a suicide bombing attack at Kabul Airport during the botched Afghanistan withdrawal spoke at a town hall in Escondido, CA on Monday morning that was hosted by Rep. Darrel Issa (R-CA). Nearly two years after the horrific attack, families haven’t received answers to many questions about the attack and there’s been no accountability for the failures that led to what Gold Star Mother Christy Shamblin calls the murder of her daughter and 11 others.

Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, released a new video on Monday attacking President Joe Biden and Democrats for numerous problems facing the country.
“Joe Biden and the Democrats seem hell-bent on destroying this country,” Barrasso said in a statement. “They created and ignored a crisis at the Southern Border and a crisis of high prices. They’re bowing to Communist China – not holding an adversary accountable. Joe Biden and Democrats are undermining America’s strength. Families want the nation to change direction. Senate Republicans have solutions to get America back on track.”

David Rody, a prosecutor working with special counsel Jack Smith on the Trump indictment, is also a donor to Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and the Democratic National Committee.
Rody is not a grassroots donor who gave $10 or $25 here and there, he donated thousands of dollars, meaning that he is obviously a partisan.
These people are abusing our legal system for political reasons and it’s so obvious.

The majority of Sunday news shows this weekend completely ignored the devastating testimony from Hunter Biden business partner Devon Archer last week.
It’s not surprising because most people know at this point that the liberal media is now basically the public relations arm of the Democrat party.
They’re not going to report on or discuss anything that might harm Joe Biden, or any other Democrat for that matter.
FOX News reports: Hunter Biden scandal: CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC Sunday shows completely avoid Devon Archer testimony. On NBC’s Meet the Press, anchor Chuck Todd mentioned Hunter Biden during an interview with Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., but in the framing that he will

The federal judge in Donald Trump's classified documents case on Monday asked prosecutors why they had used grand juries in Florida and in Washington to build their case when charges were filed in South Florida.
Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed by Trump, asked Special Counsel Jack Smith and his team to respond by Aug. 22.
'The response shall address the legal propriety of using an out-of-district grand jury proceeding to continue to investigate and/or to seek post-indictment hearings on matters pertinent to the instant indicted matter in this district,' she wrote in a court filing.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) organized the public forum at the Escondido City Hall at 11:00 a.m. local time, where family members offered emotional testimony following the tragic deaths of their sons and daughters at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, in what officials say

Americans must control their borders for humanitarian reasons, says Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Democrat who is challenging President Joe Biden for the 2024 nomination.
“The reason for strong border control is not xenophobia, bigotry, or hate,” Kennedy tweeted on August 7. “The reason is humanitarian conscience … Ruthless criminal cartels have woven drugs, immigration, and human trafficking together into a multibillion-dollar business,” he added.

Michael Senger wrote a piece this weekend arguing that the response to COVID-19 was devised by the intelligence community to perform what amounted to a coup. You can see his point. The IC has been deeply involved in both the censorship regime and the spread of sketchy information that was pushed out. It helped monitor the flow of information, the implementation of draconian policies that limited people’s liberties, and infiltrated social media companies and search engines to manipulate public perception and acceptance of hitherto unheard-of policies that fundamentally altered Western Culture. Senger’s thesis hinges on the notion that the Western response, after initially rejecting the absurd Chinese response.

Hidalgo said she was diagnosed with the condition in July and checked into an out-of-state facility to undergo treatment late last month. She aims to return to work in early September.
“From the beginning of my tenure as County Judge, I have stressed the importance of mental health services,” Hidalgo wrote in a letter Monday afternoon to Harris County residents. “Depression and other mental health illnesses are part of the human condition, and mental health illnesses

California’s Democratic attorney general launched a probe into a school district that plans to alert parents if their child starts to identify as a different gender. Critics say he’s trying to stifle opposition to the state’s LGBT agenda in schools.
The state’s top cop Rob Bonta said Friday he is exploring "potential legal violations" by Chino Valley Unified School District in Southern California, alleging that its parent notification policy could "expose a student to parental abuse or increase their risk of self-harm or suicide." Chino’s board voted last month to reject state guidance that urges schools to keep students’ gender exploration hidden from their parents.
