So, how are you all surviving the Hollywood strike?

Original Article

The strike in Hollywood has been grinding on for several months now. And while it gets plenty of media coverage, we’re not hearing much about productive discussions or progress toward a resolution. I have a couple of friends who are guild members and they keep me updated on some of the talks, but nobody seems terribly hopeful, or at least not yet. But while I always feel sympathetic for the people out of work, a thought struck me this week when I was reading one of the latest updates from CNN. This has been going on for roughly 100 days now. Assuming that you’re not one of the striking members

With lots of joy. Bet all these 'celebrities' got a serious reality check when they saw how little we cared and with what contempt we hold them.

I have seen the exact same number of movies since the strike started as I would have seen if the strike never happened. Zero, zilch, nada, none!!!! We used to see one movie a year (usually one of the Marvel movies). But we finally got sick of everything being so woke and preachy and gave up on them several years ago. My father once told me something that I have always remembered: If you can't make a living doing something, then it is a hobby. If you aren't talented enough to make a living as an actor, writer, musician, or technical person in Holly-weird, find another career. That is harsh, but Holly-weird can only pay people what they pay them as long as people are willing to work for it.

There hasn't been a creative thought coming out of Hollywood for at least 40 years. Everything is a rewrite anyway, why not just watch the originals? The choreographers are the same, they haven't come up with a new move since Brittany Spears was a sweet young thing. Bumping and grinding is hardly dancing but it seems to pass for that with this new generation. Every show is the same and every move is the same and so strike? Who could possible care?

There is so much other stuff to watch that doesn't rely on Hollyweird writers. Sports, with college football season coming soon, reality cop shows like On Patrol Live, animal shows, plus all of my DVDs that I have collected. Also, TCM doesn't require writers and the movies are usually SOOOO much better than anything spit out by Hollyweird these days. What? Did you expect me to weep into my pillow every night???

Since it's all reruns during the summer. The strike isn't even noticed. However, come fall when all the new episodes of shows normally would start, the strike will become more noticeable. One can count the number of network shows I watch on one hand and still have a few fingers left over. However, even those shows I watch get on my nerves on occasion. So, if even if they're not there, it's no great loss.

The Georgia indictment relates to Donald Trump’s (and 18 other defendants’) post-election efforts to reverse the apparent result of the 2020 election, in Georgia and elsewhere. That Trump made such attempts is not disputed. The question is, what did he do that was illegal? The indictment alleges a vast conspiracy, supported by 161 “overt acts,” that ultimately comprises Count I, a violation of Georgia’s RICO statute. The problem is that, with two exceptions, the “overt acts” are all legal. You can’t aggregate a series of legal acts and make them a crime by calling them a conspiracy.

“Democracy Dies in Darkness” is the (sometimes ironic) slogan of The Washington Post. But it’s also a fair description of what’s happening in Tennessee, as the state Legislature is being called to a special session even as local and federal officials withhold information that might be critical to its decision-making. Gov. Bill Lee ordered the special session to begin Aug. 21 in response to a March 27 mass shooting in which three adults and three children at the Covenant School, a Christian school in Nashville’s Green Hills neighborhood, were killed. The Nashville Tennessean article refers only to “a shooter.” The shooter was a female-to-male transgender shooter named Audrey Hale, aged 28

The former legal counsel for Al Gore who challenged – and lost – the presidential election results in 2000 says Gore's team did "the same thing" as what a Georgia prosecutor is claiming Trump committed as a crime. Donald Trump is facing a fourth indictment, this time from Fulton County, Georgia district attorney Fani Willis, involving allegations that Trump sought to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz, speaking to Fox News Digital, criticized the pending indictment, calling Trump’s actions "very similar" to that of Al Gore’s legal strategy in the Bush v. Gore case that decided the 2000 presidential election.

The Georgia indictment unveiled Monday night by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis just before midnight on Monday claims former President Donald Trump and 18 others pursued a “conspiracy” with mundane acts such as tweeting about hearings. In one passage, for example, the indictment states (original emphasis): “On or about the 3rd day of December 2020, DONALD JOHN TRUMP caused to be tweeted from the Twitter account @RealDonaldTrump, ‘Georgia hearings now on @OANN. Other charges listed included violation of the state's RICO act, and solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer. The document was dated 14 August and labelled the case as "open". It's unclear why it was removed from the website, and a spokesperson for the district attorney said it was "inaccurate" that charges had been filed.

It’s been a week since wildfires on Maui ravaged the island and sent residents streaming into the ocean to avoid the flames. So far, Joe Biden has “no comment” about the casualties and, presumably, he has nothing to say about the massive relief efforts that are surely underway. But are they underway? According to the Wall Street Journal, “State and federal aid is trickling into the region in the wake of the deadliest U.S. wildfire event in over 100 years.” So after a full week, aid is just “trickling in” from FEMA to deal with the destruction of most of the Western part of Maui?
