New York is the first state in the country to ban natural gas and other fossil fuels in most new buildings – a major win for climate advocates, but a move that could spark pushback from fossil fuel interests. Facing mounting pressure from environmental advocates and climate-minded voters, Gov. Kathy Hochul and Democratic lawmakers, who control the New York Senate and Assembly, approved the new $229 billion state budget containing the provision late Tuesday night. The law bans gas-powered stoves, furnaces and propane heating and effectively encourages the use of climate-friendly appliances such as heat pumps and induction stoves in most

They are going to love this up in Buffalo. The electric bills will be bigger than the mortgage payments and the houses will be freezing.

Wow! People will really want to move there so they can get away from gas stoves (in 50 years).
If gas lines aren’t installed at construction I’m not sure it can later be retrofitted.
The replacement for gas will be vasoline.

The ultimate example of virtue signaling. The ban will have zero effect on pollution, global warming, or childhood asthma. Meanwhile liberal nut cases will endlessly congratulate themselves on doing something to "save the planet".

Berkeley CA passed a similar law a couple of years ago. The 9th circuit just voided it as it conflicted with federal law. If the 9th circuit voided it, it must have been a doozy of a conflict.

How is this even constitutional? When was the government granted dictatorial powers over the use of natural resources, product innovations, and private business services?

#9 -- the makeup of the 9th Circuit Court has changed significantly and is not the same leftwing tool it was. Not to say it's a conservative court, but definitely more balanced. What Trump has done with the courts is among his successes.

Re #1, I'm not sure if "most" is correct, but certainly a very large fraction.
And, put in 100 units of energy as natural gas, and get out about 35 units of energy as electricity.
In your furnace put in 100 units of natural gas energy, get 92 units of heat into your home.
In your oven, put in 100 units of natural gas energy, get 100 units of heat into your oven.
So - going from natural gas to electricity LITERALLY throws away 2/3 of the energy. Using the nat gas directly to heat your home or food....between 92% and 100% efficiency. And if you have those old "blue flame" panel wall heaters....they are essentially 100% efficient in heating your home...but few are used any more.

NO ONE, repeat, NO ONE, ever said the goal was zero emissions, and the Pairs Accord goals still have 77 years remaining to meet that objective.
Why this rush now?
Of course, they know their isn't enough power on the electrical grid to support such a massive switch, which will create a extreme demand, thus, a very large price increase which will be paid by the consumers.
Remember, government is also a major consumer, which is nearly all paid by taxpayers, so there will be a double whammy in the form of higher taxes (or fees) and direct from the electric company.

Idiots like Chuckie Schumer have been tweeting that it is what they call the MAGA republicans trying to scare people into thinking that their natural gas stoves are going to be banned. Then this news comes out about Schumer's home state. Gee, I didn't know Hochul or the legislature was/were MAGA republican??

i left my home state of NY 23 years ago, but I visit once in a while, primarily upstate. NY is a gorgeous state but its a very poor state. Franklin, Chautauqua counties, and especially Jefferson County plus others particular along the "southern tier" are desperately, desperately poor. How can downstate and Albany liberals do this to people ? They can barely afford to eat never mind buying new equipment each time they need a new trailer to live in. What a disgrace Governor. You should be ashamed, but you aren't. F you.

Insanity. Note that activists demand this - not normal voters. Rural areas depend heavily on propane for heating and gas. Electric is expensive and not completely reliable when there's a blizzard.
