The largest Presbyterian denomination in the U.S. continued its downward trend as it hemorrhaged more than 100 churches and 53,000 members while losing 285 ministers last year, according to statistics released this week. The liberal Presbyterian Church (USA) (PCUSA) went from approximately 1.193 million members to approximately 1.14 million members over the past year (snip)
Conservative Presbyterians who spoke to Fox News Digital last fall laid partial blame for the mainline denomination's decline on what they described as a departure from its historical biblical teachings.

This church left me long ago. It left my best friend and her minister and congregation some time later. The minister and most of the congregation moved and set up their new church.

As it says, "no surprise."
Our Methodist church here is splitting up over the same issues and we will be going back to our local, non-PCUSA Presbyterian church. What has amazed me is the petty vindictiveness of the liberal bishops over our area. They have denigrated and attacked the traditionalist members for not following the woke, leftist line. They still call themselves Christians but certainly don't behave as Christians.

I was a lifetime, baptized member of a Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), but I resigned my membership last year. The ELCA synod of which I was a member promoted a transgender "woman" to be Bishop of my synod. I have nothing whatsoever against real women serving as Bishop. Ordaining as Bishop a man claiming to be a woman was one step too far. I consider this act blasphemy. Like Bud Light, ELCA was pandering to

The big central churches have been taken over by anti-Christian, extreme leftists for a long time, but it is finally getting too obvious to just pass over, so LOTS of local congregations are disassociating from the big central church bureaucracies.
This is a good thing.

Surprising they haven’t lost more members, but perhaps they have. Other than death, how do you get off church rolls? There are probably tens of thousands who are regular “no shows” but are still on mailing lists. Eventually DEI (diversity, equity, inclusivity) hardliners will be in charge if not already ensuring a continuous decline as the younger generation slips further and further away from the religious beliefs of their grandparents making unlikely to show out of habit or for appearance.

I attend (online) a Presbyterian Church with a strict "no politics from the pulpit" policy. I can tell the ministers are liberals, but (so far) have abided by that policy. When they junk the policy, I'm gone.

A priest...long ago...gave a sermon about how parishioners were like a lump of coal...you remove it from the glowing coals in the fireplace and it dies all alone...but put it back and it flares up again....I try and practice that every week in my life....and Mass for shut/ins is wonderful when I can't get to church...the hierarchy in most churches have lost touch with their people...and don't understand a walk with God doesn't have to start in a pew...it's in everyone's heart and soul....

The ''mainline'' churches didn't read the Bible they profess to believe in. It is all in there. Get a concordance. Better yet, get a Bible that already has a concordance in the back of the book just before the maps.

If they have abandoned Holy Scripture in favor of modern secular notions, their membership should be zero. They are no longer a church, but rather a self-help commune.

I have been a former member of the Presbyterian church for several decades now, not enjoying preaching about social issues.

Why bother calling yourself a church? Leftists always gotta destroy. They can never just create mess; they have to mess up something someone else has created with blood, sweat, and tears.

Satan is having a field day with all denominations.
Our new "Bishop" in the Methodist Church in NH is a lesbien with a transgender wife and a guy son.
God will not be mocked!!
Needless to say, our church will be taken over by this "Bishop" and will be probably be closed.
Several of us have contacted Global Methodist, but they are available in New England.
Pray for all the churches who are fighting to preach THE TRUTH and not go the liberal way.

My church has seen an increase in attendance over the last six months, especially among the young. There have been a several young couples with children that are attending services on a weekly basis.

A Presbyterian church not far from my home went from 460 attendees on Sunday morning to about 60 in January 2023, probably less since then. The remaining members are woke activists, the building looks shabby and there is talk of disbanding. Local Korean evangelicals have reportedly submitted an offer for the property. Obviously, they are not woke and privately shun Democrat goings on.

I attended a Presbyterian seminary in the Bay area during the Vietnam war years. Very few of us were interested in becoming pastors. Most wanted to be social workers, psychological counselors, therapists or political activists. I learned very little church history or theological dogma, much less scripture and its application. I wasn't surprised when I saw so many clergy participating in the protest march over the shooting of Michael Brown here in the Ferguson area. Satan's having a good ol' time.

Christ wanted a single church, not a collection of them, each going their own way.

If your church starts with Sola Scriptura and possibly subscribes to the 1689 London Confession or the Westminster Confession you might actually experience some growth.
