I think he felt it was really important to stand up next to President Zelenskyy and speak the way that he did today,” National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on a conference call with press. “[He] felt he had an important mission to undertake, and he was eager to do it,” he added. There were even air raid sirens blaring in the background to really make the scene pop. I’m sort of in the middle on Ukraine aid, believing that some investment in diminishing Russia’s military by proxy is a net positive (but I want less overall and a lot more accountability). Two recent news stories converge into one urgent plea. One is the alarming and well-covered story of the Chinese spy balloon. The other: At 23 Baltimore public schools (out of 150), zero students tested proficient in math. That includes 10 high schools. Not surprisingly, this story received far less coverage, including none in The New York Times. Also ignored was the follow-up news: 77% of Baltimore high-school students read only at elementary-school grade levels. Ignored too was the copy-cat story for Chicago: that of 649 Windy City public schools, 22 have zero students grade-level proficient in reading, and 33 have zero grade-level proficient in math.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has called out the rail operator at the center of a hazardous train derailment in Ohio. In a sharply worded, three-page letter sent Sunday to Norfolk Southern Railway president and CEO Alan Shaw, Buttigieg accused the Atlanta-based company of repeatedly prioritizing profit over safety -- a problematic ethos within the larger transportation industry that the secretary said has contributed to a number of derailments over the years. "The derailment of a Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous materials near East Palestine, Ohio, has upended the lives of numerous residents, many of whom continue to worry about

President Joe Biden could wait up to a whole year before beginning his re-election campaign should he decide to run for a second term in 2024.  According to a new report, Biden will follow the “Obama model,” in which former President Barack Obama didn’t start campaigning until 13 months after announcing his re-election run.  “Obama went 13 months after the announcement to start campaigning,” NBC News’s Peter Alexander said during an interview on “Meet the Press.” “[Biden] could make an announcement in April and wait until next year to get on the trail.”

A priceless treasure hoard buried by a family fleeing the Second World War has been found 80 years later by the next generation. The Glazewski family buried their silver and fled their estate in eastern Poland in September 1939 after hearing that the Russians were invading. Only Adam, the head of the family, stayed behind to face the Russians, who threw him off his land, and nearly executed him before his staff intervened. Faced with a life under Soviet rule, his four sons never returned to their home near Lviv - formerly part of Poland, today part of Ukraine - and settled around the world.

President Joe Biden arrived in Kyiv on Monday morning on a surprise days before the first anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and declared that Vladimir Putin had failed in his 'war of conquest.' His visit was shrouded in secrecy. He arrived after the hourslong train journey from Poland with a stripped down press traveling pool of just one reporter and a photographer. Air raid sirens blared across the besieged Ukrainian capital although there were no reports of Russian missile or air strikes.

The environmental disaster in East Palestine, Ohio, was bizarrely ignored by the Biden administration for weeks. Gov. Mike DeWine reportedly had repeatedly requested assistance from FEMA, but those requests were denied. However, on Friday, Donald Trump announced his intention to visit East Palestine the following week, and within two hours, it was announced that FEMA would, in fact, come to assist the people of East Palestine. “FEMA and the State of Ohio have been in constant contact regarding emergency operations in East Palestine. U.S. EPA and Ohio EPA have been working together since day one,” Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and FEMA regional administrator Thomas Sivak said in a joint statement.

Everyone is mad at Tiger Woods. No, he didn’t cheat on his wife and the mother of his children with multiple women this time. Nor did he drive his car across two lanes of traffic before crashing it. He didn’t even tick everyone off by underperforming during the first round of the Genesis Invitational on Friday, his first official PGA Tour event in over seven months. No, Tiger did something far worse: he made a joke — a joke that offended the ruling class. ABC News covered the prank that sent the pink p*ssy hats into a tizzy: "It started when [Woods] ripped a 323-yard drive, some 10 yards longer than

Recent revelations that President Joe Biden kept classified government documents at his two namesake think tanks, his Delaware home and even his garage have largely been treated with a yawn by big media. But average Americans are paying attention and worry that Biden's careless stewardship of classified documents endangers U.S. national security, the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows. In our national online I&I/TIPP Poll of 1,358 adults, taken from Feb. 1-3, we asked Americans two questions, the first being: "How closely are you following the story about classified documents from Joe Biden's time as Vice President found at his former office and home?" As it turns out, Americans are paying pretty close attention

It is now fashionable to deride our presidents as part of the woke deconstruction and desecration of America. Two of America’s most noble presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, whom Presidents’ Day honors most especially, are routinely scrutinized by the vandals running through our country and institutions. Why? The two most consequential presidents are the ones whom the woke despise most. Washington is the “Father” of the United States. But what America is he the father of? The America of liberty, the rule of law, and defender of freedom or the America of racism, white supremacy, and historical injustices? Likewise, Lincoln held the union together,

Until a couple of decades ago, voting in the United States was a straightforward exercise that required registered voters to appear at local polling places on Election Day and cast their ballots in person. A small number were permitted to vote absentee if they were stationed overseas in the military or could show that they were otherwise unable to get to the polls. This system, with minor variations, was used in all 50 states and revealed the winners of most elections with alacrity. Though not perfect, it was generally efficient, secure, and trusted by the vast majority of voters.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is coming under fire over disasters ranging from the airlines’ holiday meltdown to the train wreck that has spilled chemicals in Ohio — and critics are blaming his cozy ties with the industries he’s supposed to regulate. Outrage over US air chaos spilled into President Biden’s State of the Union Address earlier this month. The commander-in-chief vowed to crack down on excessive fees, saying “airlines can’t treat your child like a piece of baggage” and demanded that “airlines show you the full ticket price upfront and refund your money if your flight is canceled or delayed.”

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors could soon repeal all or parts of a law that prohibited city-funded travel and contracting with 30 conservative states that passed laws to restrict LGBTQ rights, abortion access and voting rights. The 2016 ordinance, Chapter 12X, was initially passed in the wake of the Obergefell v. Hodges decision to include states that passed anti-LGBTQ legislation, but was amended twice in 2019 and 2021 to add additional states who passed restrictive abortion and voting rights legislation. The move was largely seen as a boycott to pressure other states and prevent the city from engaging in business with those whose values
