People in an Atlanta neighborhood are concerned about a possible long-term closure of their Walmart after a fire closed the store a month ago. It’s the location on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in northwest Atlanta. Channel 2 Action News spoke with those in the community about the importance of the store. “Losing this store will be a huge loss to the community,” Atlanta City Councilman Byron Amos said. The Westside United Coalition and Vine City Civic Association held a community candlelight vigil on Sunday night on the closure of the Vine City Walmart. The store opened in January 2013.

Article does not mention what caused the fire. The store is boarded-up and they are in no hurry to re-open it.

Was there stealing and theft at the store? Walmart just doesn't close stores without a solid reason. Where there's smoke there's fire, npi.

Dey be tryin’ to kill us! /sarcasm off I’m too old and too damned tired of pretending we don’t know what is killing this nation. I live every day in pain from military career and am prepared to burn-in when it’s time. I can’t be the only one and believe the federal government knows there’s enough men out here like me who are keeping their powder dry for the big event that breaks everything open. If Walmart is sensible, that store will never reopen. It was probably losing money from theft and vandalism. Another case of the monkeys cutting down the banana trees then wondering why there are no more bananas.

If Walmart repairs the store and it re-opens, some copycat will set the place on fire again. Then someone will die in a fire. Then we'll have another multi-million dollar lawsuit filed by Benjamin Crump about the death of someone just turning their life around.

In some neighborhoods, it's a better business model to just close the store because of shop lifting. It's just not worth it to keep a store open when the losses are almost equal to the profit. Having worked with someone who worked security part time is a less than decent area of Baltimore the closing of a store isn't always because armed robbery.

Violent areas drive away businesses. And even if a business tries to stay open, they often have trouble keeping employees who perceive that their lives are in danger coming to work or working in 'bad neighborhoods'. I suppose this will be blamed on "evil big business" when it is rightly caused by violent urban people, almost always of a tiny minority type.

Did the community members also drive away every other business in the area? Why doesn't some enterprising young community member or an activist group put their energies together to open their own locally owned food store? Maybe the thugs won't steal and try to burn up a locally owned store and the community will show some pride in the store. Rather than sit around with their hands out and a woe is me attitude, get off your butts and do something for your community. Unfortunately, the local residents have become too conditioned to have everything done for them rather than doing for themselves.

I don't see mass crime as a "black" thing. It is a "poverty" thing, that so many blacks in this country are condemned to because so many of the black "leaders" have gotten rich keeping black people on the Demon-Rat welfare plantation by preaching "permanent victimhood" instead of the importance of hard work and education and stable marriages. Until strong black leaders rise up in the image of MLK instead of Jesse Jackson and Louis Farakhan, and start demanding that blacks rise up from permanent victim status to intelligent and hard working Americans, expect more stores like this Wal-Mart to say "enough" and shut down at the first chance they get rather than continue to be robbed blind!!!

I'm not sure exactly how this applies, but...back in 1956, the citizens and businesses of Plattsburgh, New York were complaining about the new AFB, home of the 380th Bomb Wing, Strategic Air Command. The base had B 47s and KC 97 Air Refuelers. (I still remember spending the night on Lake Champlain, pulling bodies out of a KC97 = not a good memory. Vine City and Bankhead are two sections of West Atlanta. About 25 years ago Bankhead Blvd had its name changed to Hollowell Blvd because the name Bankhead Blvd had developed such a reputation for prostitutes and drug dealers. Like a name change was going to make a difference. It didn't. That roads reputation was merely a reflection of the neighborhoods of it's location.

The White House announced Wednesday it is taking strategic steps to protect renters, including setting up limits on egregious rate hikes. "We've seen it for so many years, and it's very frustrating," American Apartment Owners Association director Alexandra Alvarado said during Grady Trimble's report on "The Big Money Show" Wednesday. "[Mom-and-pop landlords] are not being treated differently, even though it affects them much more than it would affect any large company with thousands of units. They have room for it.

Democrats and far-left green groups have set their sights on regulating a wide range of popular household appliances in a bid to push their broader electrification and climate agenda. The push to regulate everyday appliances — including water heaters, furnaces, clothes washers, dishwashers, ceiling fans, microwave ovens and shower heads — comes as the Biden administration and Democratic lawmakers continue to set lofty net-zero and climate goals for weaning off fossil fuel dependence. Environmentalists have argued that electrification, banning natural gas hookups and implementing strict energy efficiency standards could help accelerate emissions reductions.
