Michigan's auto industry has its "hiring" signs out, but few are applying and some who do quit by lunchtime. It is a nationwide problem that's hit small mom-and-pop suppliers and reverberated to the biggest carmakers in the world. The challenge is serious enough that the Michigan Manufacturers Association has increased its budget and brought in a new director of workforce development to aggressively promote auto manufacturing jobs. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of people employed by motor vehicle and parts manufacturers declined by 3,500 in January. In February, the decrease was larger, with a decline of

Detroit has been a dead city for decades. Leave it. Go some place where people want jobs.

This looks like a union written article to begin negotiations for higher wages.

We go to Detroit 3 -4 times a year to visit our grandchildren. Their neighborhood is beautiful with a majority of the old houses restored to their former beauty. Unfortunately, many of the people there couldn't care less about education and living a normal family life. They can no longer complain of the 'lack of jobs' there are plenty of jobs. This is the culture cultivated by so call black leaders who have grown a culture of victimhood, instead of American pride.

I owned a business for 25 years. Over that time we probably had half a dozen new employees not come back after lunch, they didn’t even tell us.

Per #5. When my former business partner was in high school, he got a summer job on a garbage truck. An hour into the job, he picked up garbage can to dump in the truck when the bottom fell out and dumped rotting meat and maggots all over him. That was it for him and he simply said adios to the other workers and walked home.

I worked in and around Detroit in the 1980’s for a few years. Even back then, it was sinking fast. I never stayed in the downtown area after 5:00PM. The bad actors weren’t morning people, so I always tried to get my work done in neighborhoods before noon. The auto companies were turning out overpriced second-rate cars, just like they do now. The UAW was thoroughly corrupt, just like it is now. The workers were overpaid, just like they are now.
Poster #1 is correct. If you want to work, and live in a nice place, don’t pick Detroit. Half the population is functionally illiterate, and two thirds of them are on public assistance. It’s not going to change.

This is one of many reason I drive a Subaru. Enjoy playing with gadgets and Subaru's are cell phones on wheels. Back when I succumbed to the Buy American kick I had a Ford Mustang. Had to put a quart of oil in on every tank of gas. Then it was 2 quarts. When it hit 3 I took it to a Ford dealer for repair. They kept it for a week, forced me to pay for a rental car, charged me a grand for a value job, and then it was back to 1 quart of oil on every tank of gas. My Subaru has never burned one drop of oil. If the Japanese had Fords at Pearl Harbor they'd have all crashed into the sea before they got within 20 miles of Hawaii.

I had a close friend, an estimator and building contractor in San Luis Obispo, liberal city and home of Cal Poly. He went out of his way to hire Black people, men mainly, at good union wages. A lot of them would work a day or two and not show up again. Others would hide on the job, or even sleep. Most, he said, had "attitudes" noticed by other workers. He stopped hiring Blacks and...he whispered...brought in illegal aliens. End of problem! With these workers he built many buildings in San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. The aliens often came early, stayed late and showed pride in their work. They also began to drive new cars and trucks to the worksites.

There is another reality here too. The communists have vowed to destroy the automobile industry via elimination of oil and gas fueled engines. There isn’t much of a future in working for these targeted companies.

People are leaving Michigan in large numbers thanks to Wicthmer and her antics. That's what happens when you shut the state down. She didn't have to....Florida didn't! Between her and Grandholm I don't know ''WITCH' was worsts!

To a certain segment of our population, whether white or black, welfare benefits are enough for them. Why work forty hours a week when you can do almost as well by living off the taxpayers. It’s not right but, to them, it makes economic sense.

Too much money to be made sitting on your butts and drawing six or eight different kinds of government welfare handouts.
