One of Vladimir Putin’s mobilisation chiefs has been found dead in “suspicious” circumstances prompting a murder investigation. The body of Lt-Col Roman Malyk, 49, was discovered near the fence of his home as the Russian tyrant announced his chaotic mobilisation was being called off. Last month, Putin ordered the mobilisation of 300,000 extra soldiers to the frontline as his disastrous war continues to falter with Moscow losing ground on the battlefield. Police investigating the death of Malyk have opened a murder probe but have not ruled out suicide. Some reports said Putin's enlistment chief died from hanging. His “suspicious” death

Shocking video posted online lays bare just how crime-ridden downtown Minneapolis has become, with a police horse harassed and sworn at, people brawling, and illegal street races happening near where rowdy women twerked on top of cars. The scene outside The Gay 90s bar on Saturday night seemed chaotic in the video posted online by Rebecca Brannon, as girls were filmed twerking on top of cars and yelling at a police horse as an officer tried to break up a fight involving the women. Officers in the video told the girls to 'get out, keep moving' after the fight broke

NEW YORK - If you live in New York City, it probably comes as no surprise to hear that rats are becoming increasingly visible all across the Big Apple. Sightings of the rodents are up a stunning 70% from this time two years ago, with New Yorkers calling in some 21,557 rat sightings to the city's 3-1-1 service request line between January 1 and September 30. That's up from 18,601 rat calls during the same period last year. In recent months, the city has tried to control its vermin problem with a number of attempted solutions, including putting a limit on

On May 11, Vice President Kamala Harris cast the deciding vote in favor of Alvaro Bedoya’s nomination to serve on the Federal Trade Commission. This brought Harris to number three on the list of most tiebreaking votes by a vice president in American history. Since then, Harris has cast a six tiebreaking votes and is just five away from tying John C. Calhoun for the record. Yet Harris’s accomplishment also stands out for the fact that she has cast her tiebreaking votes at a faster rate than any of her predecessors. The magnitude of Harris’s record over less than two

A selfie crowd formed around Pete Buttigieg as he stood in line for coffee at the airport in Washington. One woman said she wasn’t going to stop because she wasn’t sure it was him. “It’s me,” the Transportation secretary replied. An older man explained to his wife, “That’s Pete BOOT-GUG,” missing the pronunciation and the emphasis. “He’s the President’s…” the man said, unable to come up with his job title. And yet, it’s Buttigieg – whose only political experience before his failed presidential bid was serving as mayor of South Bend, Indiana – who has become the most requested surrogate

Hours after the National Hurricane Center issued its last advisory on what was a post-tropical Karl in Mexico and marked a tropical wave several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands on Saturday morning, the 1 p.m. advisory map is as clean as one could hope for during the hurricane season. But is that unusual? Not really, explains Brad Reinhart, a hurricane specialist with the National Hurricane Center. “As you know, the peak of hurricane season is typically mid-September and now that we’re here in mid-October, historically, this is the time of year when we start to see a

In an era where technology is ever-evolving, so is our understanding of how to use it — and this includes supplemental elements, like emojis. Something that was once thought to be a fun addition to texting or messaging has now become a highly contested topic between generations, and recent debate has spurred from one conversation on the internet pertaining to a commonly used emoji: the thumbs-up. Several months ago, a Reddit user took to the platform to ask if anyone else felt "unsettled" by the use of the thumbs-up emoji, sharing an example of workplace messaging conversations. "Most people at work

On her podcast, Fast Politics, author and journalist Molly Jong-Fast asked Gisele Barreto Fetterman, wife of Democratic Pennsylvania Senate candidate, John Fetterman, about an interview of her husband that resulted in controversy and accusations of ableism this week. Mrs. Fetterman expressed outrage that the reporter has not faced any “consequences” for it. (Snip) Fetterman made it clear she felt there should have been punishment and shared her consternation that there hasn’t been. “I don’t know how there were not consequences, right?” she said. “I mean, there are consequences for folks in these positions who are any of the -isms. Two Thursday opinion pieces, one from The New York Times and the other from The Washington Post, torched the Jan. 6 Committee as "wholly ineffective," "tedious" and done only for the sake of politics. The Washington Post opinion column likened the committee, which concluded its televised hearings Thursday, to an overlong church sermon still being preached while congregants are thinking about brunch or Sunday football. The Times guest essay claimed the committee is not shifting views about former President Donald Trump’s behavior and has acted too partisan to convince people the committee is defending democracy. A new CNN analysis fretted that American voters might care more about the cost of their food than they do about the Jan. 6 hearings. Noting Thursday’s Consumer Price Index data which showed inflation reaching 8.2% in September, as well as a cost-of-living index at its highest level since 1982, CNN's Stephen Collinson noted polling has repeatedly reinforced that the economy is the top concern to voters heading into the midterm elections. The data included information about frozen potato products, as well as pork products, which have increased 10% and 5.5%, respectively. "While it would be too simplistic to say

Joe Biden incorrectly described himself as the father of a man who "lost his life in Iraq" at a speech in Colorado on Wednesday. Speaking near the town of Vail, Biden designated Camp Hale, a 436-square-mile site where the 10th Mountain Division were trained during World War II, as a national monument. Biden saluted the bravery of the 10th Mountain Division in battle in Italy, before claiming he lost a son in Iraq. The president said: "Just imagine, I mean it sincerely, I say this as a father of a man who won the Bronze Star, the conspicuous service medal

Hurricane Ian was an unfortunate anomaly for an otherwise quieter-than-usual season. Named storms has stalled out at letter 'K' and the tropics are peaceful. That is not what climate change models had predicted.
