Who has student loan debt in America?

Original Article

Posted By: MDConservative, 5/23/2022 11:37:44 AM

Millions of Americans rely on the federal government to cover the cost of college. Education loans have existed for generations, but borrowing only really took off in the past two decades. Soaring college costs, higher enrollment, changes to the federal lending system, labor market demand for credentials and paltry wage growth have all contributed to the $1.6 trillion in outstanding federal student debt. This does not include debt originated in the private market.

Comments:

The thing to see is that it's not the high debt holders failing to pay back. It's those who fail to complete their degree studies. And so the American public should bail out those who were ill-equipt for college and at least were smart enough to stop digging deeper debt pits. One wonders how many cars, vacations, tattoos, and frat/sorority jackets were bought with this money, not to mention "remedial studies."

So, kids who will get student loans for schools starting this fall, can they expect eventual loan forgiveness?

If there ever was an argument AGAINST student loan forgiveness -- the highest levels of student loan debt in the nation are in Washington, D.C. and Maryland.

First of all, quit calling it 'loan forgiveness'. It's not, it's transferring that debt onto taxpayers. Universities aren't just wiping those loans off their books, they're giving it to us to pay. Second, to combat this stupidity just start showing students on Spring Break, they sure aren't worrying about paying off their debt are they. Thirdly, as soon as universities realize that the taxpayers will be on the hook for paying tuition for most students, the tuition will go up by tens of thousands more a year. Fourth, for the past three weeks, the leftists have been screaming how unfair it will be to poor Black women if Roe v Wade is overturned, that these struggling single moms can't afford to have any more children, but leftists have absolutely no concern about these same struggling poor women having their taxes raised to pay some university educated puke's bill.

Keep in mind much of the Govt full court press to hand out College loans Willy Nilly was to steer them OUT of the unemployed category for Political Gain, Hence headlines about falling numbers of unemployed and below the fold mentions of falling Labor Participation rates. Couple that with the Street Law of "You owe me? I OWN you", and Govt the sole lender/guarantor via Sallie Mae. Leaves a yuuuuge percentage of the population with a Govt sword over their heads, boot on their necks....ripe for a Payment waiver for Vote scheme, as is being floated now..

Anybody who applied for student loan forgiveness should never be allowed to borrow money from the bank. They should also be denied an application for a credit card.

Use your states or investment firm 529. Start early if you can and be consistent with your contributions. My wife and I started a 529 fund for our son when he was three months old. He graduated from a four-year college debt free. Never needed a student loan.

Other people's debts are not my problem. I did not sign the notes, borrow, or get the money. Please address your concerns to the borrowers. Thank you!

Colleges have multi-million dollar (collectively billions?) in their endowment accounts. How much of that nest egg are they contributing to help alleviate the loan debts that THEY benefit so well from? What are colleges doing to rein in their outlandish tuitions for their frequently overrated end products? And just MAYBE the federal government should get out of the loan business. They are not clear on the 'loan' concept.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday morning that prices in the United States rose by 8.3% between April of this year and April of last year.

Forty years ago we had a soaring inflation rate, obscene gas prices and interest rates in the teens. Today, thanks to their incredible incompetence, bad policies and serial stupidity, the Democrats in Washington are bringing back all those problems. It’s getting so bad, I’m actually beginning to think Jimmy Carter was not such a bad president after all. People under 40 have no idea how bad things were in the late 1970s under Carter. They’ve grown up knowing only 3 percent interest rates, dirt cheap gasoline and 2 percent inflation. They don’t know how miserable things were under Carter or how miserable they can get again under Biden.

It's tempting for Americans to get smug about the sinking of the Moskva, the Russian Navy's flagship in the Black Sea. Whether it was destroyed by Ukrainians or — less plausibly — sunk because of a non-combat onboard explosion of ammunition, the result is both a humiliation and a setback for Vladimir Putin's war efforts. If you're cheering Ukraine's defenders, it's hard not to take some satisfaction in that. But America's fleet might also be more vulnerable than you think.

Republicans have long had a toughness fetish. Going back to the early days of the Cold War, its flip side has been the insinuation that Democrats are weaklings ready to sell out the country to its enemies, with the GOP eager to serve proudly and unapologetically as America's lone defenders abroad. No one should be surprised that the script has already been updated to account for recent distressing events on the border separating Russia and Ukraine.
