63 Republicans vote against resolution
expressing support for NATO

Original Article

More than 60 Republicans on Tuesday voted against a resolution expressing support for NATO and calling on President Joe Biden to strengthen the organization's committement to defending democracy. The resolution, introduced by Rep. Gerald Connolly, a Democrat from Virginia, was backed by a majority of the GOP caucus and every Democrat who voted. Citing the threat posed by "authoritarian regimes" as well as "internal threats from proponents of illiberalism," the resolution calls on the Biden administration to uphold NATO's "founding democratic principles." It also advocates the creation of a "Center for Democratic Resilience"

Comments:

This is classic politics. Everyone LOVES NATO, don't they? Protecting the West from the Russians, helping keep democracy alive, etc. So, why would these nasty Republicans vote against this resolution? Read the resolution. It has nothing to do with supporting NATO. It is a vehicle to expand NATO with another bogus "center" to employ more international bureaucrats. This center's purpose is "to strengthen NATO democracies against external threats" and "internal threats from proponents of illiberalism". Hmmm, who or what could those be? Those not enthralled with globalism and the new world order? Oh, no, of course not. Once again the literal truth is used to advance a "good cause" with a ton of implications. Happens every day. And most people have no idea.

I'm pretty certain this is one of those "America will continue to foot the bill for NATO while the Western European socialist states fritter their money on social welfare, Middle East (Muslim) resettlements, and energy deals with Putin." bills, right? Also, the bill also subsidizes NATO bureaucrats and insures the continued business for fine hotels, dining, and personal service providers (both male and female) to said bureaucrats and visiting diplomats.

The the left every name is the opposite to its true purpose. So what is the true purpose of something called "Center for Democratic Resilience? Obviously it must be to to weaken the democratic process.

Just what democracy might NATO be defending? There's not a democracy in the whole of Europe and the USA isn't one either.

I support the 63. Astounding betrayal by the GOP to support this measure, and one from Connolly, one of the most vile Democrats in the House. The only support ever for Connolly should be a boot to the exits.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said that Republicans in Congress are "preparing to make history" by instituting new policies if the GOP retakes control of the House during midterms this fall. President Joe Biden's approval rating has been underwater since August and currently stands at 42% per FiveThirtyEight. His unpopularity combined with inflation, security problems and other concerns are likely to help Republicans win House seats this fall.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is planning trips to Iowa and New Hampshire. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., is considering a rough timeline for a potential presidential announcement. And allies of Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., are openly talking up her White House prospects. More than two years before the next presidential election, a shadow primary is already beginning to take shape among at least three fierce Republican critics of former President Donald Trump to determine who is best positioned to occupy the anti-Trump lane in 2024.

Republicans have long had a toughness fetish. Going back to the early days of the Cold War, its flip side has been the insinuation that Democrats are weaklings ready to sell out the country to its enemies, with the GOP eager to serve proudly and unapologetically as America's lone defenders abroad. No one should be surprised that the script has already been updated to account for recent distressing events on the border separating Russia and Ukraine.

This is a response to an opinion piece by Janan Najeeb that mistakenly characterized the Latinx struggle for fair maps and equal representation in Milwaukee as a threat to Muslim voting rights or representation ("Milwaukee's Muslims simply want to be fairly represented by the Common Council," Jan. 30). The struggle for the freedom of communities of color to have a fair and equal voice in our city can never be won if we allow ourselves to be manipulated by politicians who use the tactic of divide and conquer to pit one oppressed group against another.

(snip) The reception in Obama’s honor, though, hinted that the event’s real purpose was to signal to Democrat apparatchiks that Biden is now shark chum. The chumming process began when Obama referred to Biden as the “Vice President,” adding, after a long pause, “that was a joke.”

Pope Francis, a leading advocate of Doormat Christianity, is at it again, trying to reverse nearly two millennia of Christian doctrine, by preaching total passivity—even against violent aggression. On March 18, 2022, Francis declared before an audience that “A war is always—always!—the defeat of humanity, always. We, the educated, who work in education, are defeated by this war, because on another side we are responsible.” So far, all well and good, if only because such lofty but impotent words are expected. But then Francis went so far as to say, “There is no such thing as a just war: they do not exist!” That is a remarkably dangerous claim, of similar naïve thinkers—
