How Stupid Is Whoopi Goldberg, Really?

Original Article

That’s not a rhetorical question, by the way. Seriously, it’s hard not to wonder how it’s possible that Whoopi Goldberg fancies herself to be an authoritative voice on current events. Quite frankly, I can’t understand how that happened. She says a lot of dumb things. Like on Monday, she went into hysterics about the archbishop of San Francisco banning Nancy Pelosi from Holy Communion in his diocese over her pro-abortion views. “The archbishop of San Francisco is calling for speaker Nancy Pelosi to be denied receiving Communion because of her pro-choice stance,” Goldberg noted. “This is not your job, dude.

As a Bishop in the Catholic Church enforcing the teachings and policies of that Church is his job. Whereas, Goldberg is not even Catholic and who participates in a Catholic sacrament is none of her business.

Because Whoopi was in those nun movies, she seems to believe she understands the Catholic religion. She does not. Catholics are taught that confession cleanses one from sin, qualifying the penitent to receive Holy Communion, but the priest always, at the end of confession, tells the penitent, 'go and sin no more.' (The last time I went to confession was 1968, so things may have changed, but I doubt it.) Most Protestants are taught that everyone is a sinner, and will continue to sin but through the acceptance of Christ, one receives an OK from God, and that the sinning is secondary to salvation. ELCA Lutherans, a denomination that I am (painfully) a member of, take an easy path on sin and absolution. At the beginning of Mass, the pastor grants absolution to everyone in attendance. Missouri Synod Lutherans require weekly confession. Go figure. Nancy Pelosi is operating outside the bounds of her religion. It is a Bishop's job to keep his congregants in bounds. If she can't conform to that, she should join a church in a denomination that finds abortion to be something other than a mortal sin. When she walks up to the Communion railing, she is mocking every observant Catholic. It would be better for her, and her immortal soul, to find another denomination.

When I was an undergraduate in the late 1960s, I underwent a kind of transformative experience during a classroom debate with another student that I believed I was clearly winning when the philosophy professor corrected me. He reminded me that when engaged in a philosophical debate, as opposed to the 9th grade Debating Challenge, the point is not simply to vanquish one’s opponent but to find the truth. In order to do the former one may use any means fair or foul to destroy the opponent. For the latter one must do the exact opposite and represent one’s opponent’s position in the strongest terms possible.

No doubt still sulking over the Roe v. Wade reversal — the opening sentence of their recent op-ed published in The New York Times is, “When liberals lose at the Supreme Court — as they increasingly have over the past half-century” — two Ivy League professors laid out their claims for an America without Constitutional limitations. They suggest, “the way to seek real freedom will be to use procedures consistent with popular rule.” Of course, the piece is polished sewage: tyranny of the majority is a very real, and very dangerous threat to the individual, (perhaps they should go read Federalist 10, but they likely wouldn’t understand that either).

Elites have always been ambiguous about the muscular classes who replace their tires, paint their homes, and cook their food. And the masses who tend to them likewise have been ambivalent about those who hire them: appreciative of the work and pay, but also either a bit envious of those with seemingly unlimited resources or turned off by perceived superciliousness arising from their status and affluence. Yet the divide has grown far wider in the 21st century. Globalization fueled the separation in a number of ways. One, outsourcing and offshoring eroded the rust-belt interior, while enriching the two coasts. The former lost good-paying jobs, while the latter found new markets

I have been reading with horror Julie Kelley’s day-to-day description of the treatment afforded some 850 people arrested in D.C. for conduct on January 6 and the awful legal representation and judicial treatment they have received. Many have been held in horrible prison conditions for over a year, denied bail and an opportunity to have their cases heard outside this venue where the jurors will never grant them a fair trial. None of the big law firms in town which puff up their public service donating time -- for example, to defend Guantanamo Bay detainees -- have to my knowledge volunteered to help these people.

It's a move that House Republicans should consider when they regain the majority in November, but will they do it? 'I've been able to call him at any hour of the day for his advice as we've tackled this once-in-a-generation pandemic. His commitment to the work is unwavering, and he does it with an unparalleled spirit, energy, and scientific integrity,' Biden said in a statement. Fauci, 81, has hinted for months retirement was on his mind but never gave an end-date for his public service. He made the announcement official on Monday.

Call him the “Out of Towner.” President Biden will wrap up a two-week vacation at his beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Del., Wednesday as one unofficial count indicates he has spent more time away from the White House than his three immediate predecessors at the same point in their terms. The president and his family, including disgraced first son Hunter Biden, left Washington for their latest getaway on Aug. 10, spending almost a week at a $20 million mansion on South Carolina’s exclusive Kiawah Island. As The Post reported earlier this month, the first family stayed for free at the nine-bedroom oceanfront estate owned by Democratic donor Maria Allwin,

Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz on Sunday defended former President Donald Trump after the FBI seized documents from the former commander-in-chief’s Mar-a-Lago home. Dershowitz emphasized on Fox News Channel’s “MediaBuzz” that he voted against Trump twice and was “looking forward” to doing it again but said the FBI engaged in an “improper search” to obtain documents. “Look, I voted against Trump twice. I’m looking forward to an opportunity to vote against him for a third time, but I will not compromise the Fourth Amendment or the Constitution or the principles I’ve stood for all my life in order to get Trump,”
