The premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount Plus Thursday, appeared to allege that the January 6, 2021 riot at the US Capitol triggered the fictitious nuclear World War III on Earth in the sci-fi series timeline. The spin off from Star Trek: Discovery, based in cannon from the 1960's original series, showed the crew of the Enterprise discovering a pre-warp society with advanced technology, which warring factions on the planet are about to use against each other.

The last decent spinoff was Deep Space Nine. After that - don't even bother. This sounds like it'll be the worst yet.
Fond memories of the neighbors in rural Florida, wealthy retirees from NYC (and yet nice people!) invited us to come over every Star Trek night to watch it on their COLOR TV! Thins were very different in 1966.
Hollyweird is populated by such stupid, hateful, bizarre people these days. Sad.

Am a Huge fan of Classic Star Trek known to some as TOS. For the most part literate scrips and gorgeous women in miniskirts. Never got into any of the spin offs. The first on had this bald guy, Patrick Stewart. A bald captain? No way. And Whoppi Goldberg who should have been playing a monster instead of a crew person. Feel the same way about James Bond, Tarzan, and Superman. Stick with the original.

The word is canon.
Not cannon.

Original series was remarkably prescient, regarding technological advances. The socio-political vision of the entire franchise missed the mark with its myopic political correctness.

Spock : "It is unwise to mix genres, Captain. The Jan 6 narrative of the mainstream media was "fiction," not "science fiction."

I must add that a plot that blamed WW3 on nato aggression and bidoodoo’s threat to remove Putin from office would require a lot less gullibility.

Excuse me, but didn't the January 6th riot END sixteen months ago, with no war in sight?

Wasn't one of the main tenets of Star Fleet the "Prime Directive": No interfering with the civilization that you are visiting? Wasn't Captain Pike interfering by giving his woke lecture to the pre-warp society? Shame on him! He violated a Star Fleet rule. In the original Star Trek, the Captain would have never have done this.

I remember watching Star Trek every other Sunday growing up when we would visit my grandparents on my Mom's side. Star Trek ain't what is used to be!

The comment above asks "... and one wonders what audience they draw." What audience - the left. I loved ST as a kid...then I grew up. Leftists never grew up, they were/are completely indoctrinated, thought it was real. They are now using some of it as part of their playbook. Globalism, uni-sex nonsense, etc., etc.. It's a shame, it used to be nice escapism.

when I was growing up we only had one TV. My Pop only watched four network evening shows- Perry Mason, My Favorite Martian,That Was the Week That Was and Star Trek. On Sunday afternoon he watched Bishop Sheen's Life is Worth Living and Wm Buckley's Firing Line.

Agree, OP. It's a shame they just don't know how to quit when they're ahead!
HUGE Star Trek family here; always a TOS and Shatner fan when young. So, I carried on my parents' Saturday night TV & popcorn tradition (Perry Mason, of course) with my own two sons in the 80's & 90's. Was surprised at how much I enjoyed ST:Next Gen, so that was our Saturday night fare, lovingly followed by ST:DS9 (wonderful in its own right). We loved our Saturday nights....highly entertaining and I never had to worry about the content!
Watched some ST:Voyager (not bad); ST:Enterprise never really caught on. It's been downhill ever since. I never even made it through the first episode of ST:Discovery....as soon as I saw that this was just a Discovery spinoff, that said it all.
If you really want to revisit the joys of Star Trek (besides watching TOS re-runs), do catch Seth MacFarlane's 'Orville' homage series (3 seasons, last one streaming now). It's really well done and just lots of fun!!
P.S. - Most of the movies, OTOH, were fabulous! Star Trek VI is a favorite....sound track to die for!

They could just rerun the TOS episode "Patterns of Force" and you would have the FJB administration in a nutshell.

#21: "Orville" would have been great, if they could have made up their mind if they were a reasonable serious show or a farce.
For example, the tradition of the once-a-year whizz ceremony tremendously detracted from the same species' tradition of converting females to males, pretty much at birth.

This franchise has jumped the shark with "Discovery", "Picard" and now this. All are "woke", and one wonders what audience they draw. "Discovery" had devolved into everyone but straight white males involved in soap opera storylines. I haven't watched "Strange New Worlds". Subscription canceled. The franchise demonstrates how pop culture entertainment is pure propaganda these days.
