FDA Restricts Use of 2 Monoclonal Antibody Treatments

Original Article

Posted By: earlybird, 1/25/2022 11:27:47 AM

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Jan. 24 it is restricting the use of two monoclonal antibody treatments for COVID-19, saying data show such treatments are “highly unlikely” to be active against the Omicron variant, currently the dominant strain in the country. Monoclonal antibodies are laboratory-created proteins that mimic natural antibodies the body produces to fight off harmful pathogens, (snip) The agency revised its emergency authorization for the two COVID-19 treatments that come from Regeneron and Eli Lilly. Their use is now limited to when the COVID-19 patient is “likely to have been infected with or exposed to a variant that is susceptible to these treatments.”

Comments:

How, pray tell, do they determine which variant one was exposed to?

It appears to me that the biggest obstacle to me in ending the pandemic is the CDC, FDA, and Dr. Fauci. If they would just let doctors be doctors and offer what treatments worked best, this would all be over very quickly. The government tyrants do not want to end their power trips and notoriety they have gained from their edicts.

"Highly unlikely" is an opinion, not a clinical study, or field report, of the usefulness of monoclonal antibody treatments. I understand Trump received all the cocktails of medicines when he had Covid, as have members of Congress. I wonder why it works for them, but not for us.

Back when I used to work in the pharmaceutical industry, the general idea on the use of drugs was that 1. The pharmaceutical company was limited in its promotion to the approved indications for the drug. 2. The prescriber could use the drug for any use as long as there was good medical reasons (for example, published studies) for its use and not speciflcally contraindicated for that use. However, it sounds like the FDA and CDC wants to put the prescribers on the same level as the drug companies and only limit a drug's use to their indicated whims. There are a lot of reasons why companies don't get every indication they can on every drug. For example, it it is off patent (generic), there really is no economic reason to spend often millions of dollars for studies on something that will make the investing company next to nothing.

FTA: Their use is now limited to when the COVID-19 patient is “likely to have been infected with or exposed to a variant that is susceptible to these treatments.” Using this criteria, the vaccines should be limited for use, because they were developed for the original variant, not the Delta and Omicron variants now active. Is it any wonder that people believe the CDC does not know what it is doing?

I just heard on the radio that the CDC claims 99.9% of covid cases in the U.S. are omnicron! Does that mean that we have hit herd immunity on both the original covid and Delta?!!! Now all we have to do is wade through this omnicron and we should be done....unless they manage to bring in something new with their next batch of boosters.

There is something we can do to beat Covid and the government. Quit being couch potatoes, quit junk food, quit carbs and sugar, etc, get outside to walk and exercise and make Vitamin D. Let's get as healthy as possible in the near and far future. That will build our immune system, so we don't get sick, and any virus that comes along will not have an environment to grow and multiply.

According to McCullough, early treatment and natural immunity are safe and effective against COVID-19, but federal health agencies have ignored these in a push for vaccines, the broad use of which is not needed. “The government has certainly been in an oblivion in terms of early treatment,” he said. Thousands of people turned out to march in protest against COVID-19 vaccine mandates—one of the largest U.S. events against the mandates since the start of the pandemic.
