U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer was ushered into retirement by “left-wing dark money groups,” according to a statement Wednesday by Carrie Severino, president of the conservative Judicial Crisis Network.
Breyer’s retirement was reported by the press before he himself made it, leading to speculation that it had been leaked by a White House eager to appease left-wing critics after its recent legislative failures — and worried about Republicans winning the Senate in 2022.(snip)
Left-wing groups and elected Democrats had been pressuring Breyer to retire for months, fearful of repeating the experience of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death in 2020, which allowed President Donald Trump to appoint a third Supreme

Bullied? More likely bribed.

I hope the Republicans can put off the vote until after the 2022 mid-terms...

Probably not #2 - still 10 months b4 the election and 11 before they take office.
Maybe Manchin or Sinema can insist on a centrist?

Maybe. Speculation so far.
If there is any payoff I would expect it to be extremely indirect. e.g. such as a relative of Breyer somehow receiving a huge windfall later.

It was probably the horse's head in his bed that did it. That, and the sliced-up photograph of Ruth Bader GInsburg.

Consider the source. Never heard of this person or group. Breyer was a reliable lib, Biden or his replacement has two more years, Republicans generally knuckle under on SC choices anyway, so why get rid of him now?

Breyer himself should set the record straight. If some leftist groups have bullied him to retire, maybe he should come out and announce that he has reconsidered and will not be retiring until next year.

Would it have anything to do with the people in the White House deciding it might be a good time to - change the narrative - again? It is as if they are in my television series, and to prevent people from changing the channel, they just change the plot line.

After what happened with Ginsburg, it is believable that he was pressured to resign this year. That being said, Joe will have to pick yet another "first" and replace him with a black female. Don't think it will be Kamala, as she thinks she has a shot at the big chair when they take Joe off to lala land. I suspect it will be the DC judge. She is female, black, and young.

Yep. I have been suspecting the same thing. Breyer refused to retire during the Obama era after working with the quality of judge that Obama nominated. These judges have some professional pride, and they don't want a fool taking their spot upon retirement. I think Breyer got some serious pushing, and they need to have Harris out of the administration. So this is the perfect, and legal way to achieve that.

Don’t rule the possibility of Hillary being involved. Arkancide is alway an option for the left. Perhaps he is leaving to protect his life.

Let me guess. Those would be the same groups that installed Biden as POTUS, right?

Just considering the fact that his retirement was "leaked" to the press is a bullying attempt to lock in the "decision."

Re #6, here is Carrie Severino’s bio. Most Conservatives know who she is because of the excellent book she and Mollie Hemingway co-authored on the Kavanaugh confirmation fiasco.
Carrie Campbell Severino is president of the Judicial Crisis Network and co-author with Mollie Hemingway of the bestselling book Justice on Trial: The Kavanaugh Confirmation and the Future of the Court. As an expert on the confirmation process, Mrs. Severino has been extensively quoted in the media and regularly appears on television, including MSNBC, FOX, CNN, C-SPAN and ABC’s This Week. During the Kavanaugh confirmation alone she logged 104 TV appearances, in addition to doing extensive radio and print media.
Severino writes and speaks on a wide range of judicial issues, including the constitutional limits on government, the federal nomination process, and state judicial selection. She has testified before Congress on constitutional questions and briefed Senators on judicial nominations, and regularly files briefs in high-profile Supreme Court cases. She was a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and to Judge David B. Sentelle of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and is a graduate of Harvard Law School (J.D.), Duke University (B.A., Biology), and Michigan State University (M.A., Linguistics).

#6 To put a much younger liberal in that can be on the bench for decades. Seems they fear a republican takeover of congress and the senate.
