President Joe Biden on Monday announced he will travel to Kentucky later on this week to survey damage from tornadoes and severe storms. "I intend to travel to Kentucky on Wednesday. And with each passing day, the human impact of this devastation -- just the depths of the losses -- are becoming more and more apparent," Biden told reporters on Monday during an Oval Office briefing on the storm with homeland security officials.(snip)In addition to urgent recovery efforts and food and water distribution, Biden said he would be asking his team to set up sites for booster shots and other public health efforts as Covid-19 cases rise across the country.

Comments:

What he said was that he would check the status of hospitals in the tornado-hit areas. Wants to set up sites for booster shots. Can you believe it?

So will Brandon show up with "Build Back Better" signs? Or maybe he will tell the storm victims that the storms would never have happened if they had only invested in solar panels.

Biden on a trip to Kentucky will not see anything more than he has already seen on TV, mass devastation where the tornados sliced through. When he could be sending a couple of brigades of Army Engineers with heavy equipment, instead he will show up, politicize the situation and maybe even blame Trump.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards confirmed he is moving forward with adding COVID-19 vaccines to the required list of school immunizations, despite the state’s House Health and Welfare Committee voting to reject the proposal at a hearing last week. In a letter (pdf) to the House Committee on Health and Welfare Chairman Larry Bagley on Dec. 14, the governor said he disapproved of the committee’s rejection, and he plans to allow the rule to go into effect because it will “save lives” and help the state emerge from the pandemic. Under the proposed amendment, SARS-CoV-2 shots would be added to the list of required vaccinations for school entry.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Tuesday announced he will oppose the nomination of Dr. Robert Califf to head the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Sanders, a nominal independent who caucuses with Democrats, joins Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) in opposing Califf, who President Joe Biden nominated to head the FDA last month. In the 50–50 Senate, that means Califf would need support from at least two Republicans to win the job. During a nomination hearing on Capitol Hill, Sanders noted that 9 out of the last 10 FDA commissioners have gone on to work for the pharmaceutical industry or to serve on a drug company’s board of directors.

The Biden administration has released a tranche of secret documents that some historians -- and conspiracy theorists -- hope might shed light on the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy. You can read the documents here. The release of almost 1,500 documents still leaves more than 10,000 either partially redacted or withheld entirely. It is expected to prolong the bitter debate between the federal government and JFK researchers, who have argued that the CIA, the FBI and other national security agencies have continually stonewalled a congressionally mandated release. Longtime JFK researchers say the release likely does not include a smoking gun that would substantively change the public understanding of the circumstances surrounding

Researchers said that they may have discovered the molecular-level cause of Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists at the University of California–Riverside said in recent findings that the key to understanding Alzheimer’s may have to do with “tau” proteins that likely cause neurofibrillary tangles—which are found in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. Previously, researchers suggested that amyloid plaques, which are a buildup of amyloid peptides, may be the cause. Both amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles are critical indicators that doctors look for when trying to diagnose Alzheimer’s.

Everyone’s understandably focused today on how Cheney embarrassed Trump Jr and the Fox News gang by reading their texts to Trump on January 6. Ed has a nice write-up about it here. But don’t miss the forest for the trees. The point Cheney was making isn’t that Fox News hosts are hypocrites, although they are. The point is that the president’s own family and allies were pleading with him while the riot was unfolding to do something, yet he did nothing — for hours.
