To me, this is just jaw-dropping. The Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell made statements today akin to saying the emperor is wearing a beautiful coat. I can share examples, but to really encapsulate the issues it’s actually easier to start by sharing a chart he presented when discussing inflation.
Do you notice anything missing in this chart? Look at it carefully.(chart) If you look at it and say: “hey, where’s the actual 2021 data he is talking about“, give yourself a cookie.
The guy is talking about the issue of 2021 inflation and expressing his empathy that inflation is running “far ahead” of the federal reserve projections.

During the pandemic, nationwide stay-at-home orders handed gaming companies a golden opportunity.
Under restrictive nationwide COVID-19 lockdowns, for many people gaming was one of the few active recreations, social activities, and creative outlets available.
From 2020 to 2021, revenue for gaming companies skyrocketed.
Games corporation Blizzard saw revenues on the first-person shooter game Call of Duty rise by 72 percent, the massive multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORG) World of Warcraft by 7 percent, and apps by subsidiary company King rise by 22 percent.
Chinese gaming company Tencent saw its total revenue rise by 25 percent in the same timeframe.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) vented his anger with the media in the wake of a report that he wants to drop the child tax credit, a popular program, from President Biden’s expansive climate and social spending package.
“This is bullshit. You’re bullshit,” Manchin yelled at Arthur Delaney, a reporter for HuffPost Politics, who asked him to confirm the report that the child tax credit has become a major sticking point in talks with the White House.
“I’m done, I’m done,” Manchin fumed, his voice rising, after Delaney asked whether the senator could support continuing $300 monthly payments to families with young kids.

Experts have pushed back against claims that this weekend’s tragic tornadoes in Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, and Tennessee can be clearly linked to manmade climate change.
(snip) professor and climate economist Richard S.J. Tol of the University of Sussex explained why it is so difficult to connect weather events on the scale of a tornado to shifts in the Earth’s climate.
“Tornadoes are small, rarely more than 3 kilometers in diameter. The most advanced climate models, however, cannot see things that are smaller than 9 by 9 km. Climate models can therefore tell us very little about tornadoes,” (snip)
“Data are not great, but suggest that there is no upward or downward trend

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards confirmed he is moving forward with adding COVID-19 vaccines to the required list of school immunizations, despite the state’s House Health and Welfare Committee voting to reject the proposal at a hearing last week.
In a letter (pdf) to the House Committee on Health and Welfare Chairman Larry Bagley on Dec. 14, the governor said he disapproved of the committee’s rejection, and he plans to allow the rule to go into effect because it will “save lives” and help the state emerge from the pandemic.
Under the proposed amendment, SARS-CoV-2 shots would be added to the list of required vaccinations for school entry.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Tuesday announced he will oppose the nomination of Dr. Robert Califf to head the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Sanders, a nominal independent who caucuses with Democrats, joins Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) in opposing Califf, who President Joe Biden nominated to head the FDA last month.
In the 50–50 Senate, that means Califf would need support from at least two Republicans to win the job.
During a nomination hearing on Capitol Hill, Sanders noted that 9 out of the last 10 FDA commissioners have gone on to work for the pharmaceutical industry or to serve on a drug company’s board of directors.

The Biden administration has released a tranche of secret documents that some historians -- and conspiracy theorists -- hope might shed light on the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
You can read the documents here.
The release of almost 1,500 documents still leaves more than 10,000 either partially redacted or withheld entirely. It is expected to prolong the bitter debate between the federal government and JFK researchers, who have argued that the CIA, the FBI and other national security agencies have continually stonewalled a congressionally mandated release.
Longtime JFK researchers say the release likely does not include a smoking gun that would substantively change the public understanding of the circumstances surrounding

Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento City, and San Diego Unified school districts have found a novel way to improve academic results—they’re getting rid of D and F grades. One imagines this will improve results immediately. On paper.
Reporting from San Francisco, KRON 4 News, writing in semi-literate English, informs us, “If a student fails a test or doesn’t complete their homework, they’ll be able to retake the test and get more time to turn in assignments.”
The assistant principal at Fremont High School in Oakland, speaking in semi-literate English, told KRON, “Right now, we have a system where we give a million points for a million pieces of paper that students turn

After a judge found Virginia’s Fauquier Hospital in contempt of court in a lawsuit filed on behalf of a COVID-19 patient who was denied being prescribed Ivermectin, the hospital said Tuesday that it is complying with the court order.

It came after Judge James. P. Fisher, of the 20th Judicial Court of Virginia, signed an order Monday finding Fauquier Hospital in contempt of court or “needlessly interposing requirements that stand in the way of the patient’s desired physician administering investigational drugs

OLDTOWN, Maryland—This ancient colonial town nestled along the north branch of the Potomac River could not be more different from the upscale suburbs of Chevy Chase located much closer to the tidal portion.
While both are in the same state, this town of 86 people is more culturally connected to the people and places in West Virginia and Pennsylvania close to this region (snip)
Yet they do share one recently developing commonality that has gone under the radar of the national press that tells the story of a state, and by default, a country so disapproving of the president and the Democrats that even the bluest of blue-state voters can’t pretend

The intemperate Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney is on a hate-filled kamikaze mission to attack the base of the political party she abhors. {Direct Rumble Link Here}
Previously, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski set the low bar for contempt against the Tea Party movement, however, this week Liz Cheney says ‘hold my beer’ and goes all in against the MAGA base. Ugly is as ugly does – inside and outside.
(WaPo) – Rep. Liz Cheney’s disclosures of intriguing Jan. 6 text messages between Mark Meadows and both Donald Trump Jr. and Fox News personalities are the big news in the committee’s investigation right now. But don’t lose sight of what Cheney said

Upon taking office, Joe Biden pulled out his pen and phone and nixed the measure that had stemmed the tide of unqualified asylum applicants and trafficking of children. Now, the 5th Circuit has slapped down that attempt at an appeal,
