The Senate voted Tuesday afternoon to raise the debt ceiling by $2.5 trillion - a day before Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the U.S. could go into default. Only Democrats voted in favor of the hike, with the final vote standing at 50 to 49, with one Republican abstaining. That meant there was no need for Vice President Kamala Harris to break a tie. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the floor Tuesday morning that the hike would allow the U.S. to borrow enough money to fund its expenses into 2023 - after the midterm elections. Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell struck a deal last week,

There is nothing as meaningless as the government debt limit. Congress intends to spend the country into insolvency. Disaster awaits.

When an ordinary citizen gets into difficulty with too much spending on a credit card, the consequences are swift and ruthless. His credit limit is certainly not raised. Why is it not the same with the feddrill goobermint?

Just add it on to the rest of the National Debt. And they still want another 3.5 Trillion for the BBB.

No surprise here, of course. If you think "primary-ing" the RINOs will fix things: remember that even if Turtle and his friends lose in the primaries, they will STILL BE IN OFFICE until January 2023. Like cornered rats, they can do much to undermine MAGAs on NOvember 8, 2022. They will still control the money and count the votes .. not to mention cooperate with the Dems.

So, who was the lone republican abstaining in this vote? Wouldn't that be something of value for this article? This would never happen if Lee Atwater was still around......

Why is this the Republicans’ fault? With all Democrats voting yes, it couldn’t be stopped.

OK. They authorized more debt go pay for the bills for things that were already approved without a budget or way to pay for it. Now that they they have this where will the $3.5 Trillion + come from? The debt increase was to pay for current obligations. The Biden ridiculous Biggest Baddest Baloney Plan is new spending and debt. Where does that money come from?

But Build Back better was supposed to pay for itself! Why would they need to raise the debt ceiling? Our government betrays us. WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY!

Sen. Lummis didn't vote due to a health issue and was back in Wyoming recovering. I guess he couldn't vote remotely.

How much of this $2.5 TRILLION will be money laundered for the members of the Jihad Junta and their enablers? This is an economic catastrophe. Soon the Swamp will vote to take all of our savings “for the Greater Good…”

Senate cannot vote by proxy, #25. That's only available in the House thanks to Nasty Nanzi. If vote by proxy helped the Republicans in any way, you can bet she would jerk it off the table so fast it would make your head spin.

JOHN CORNYN SOLD U.S. OUT AGAIN--
He will never represent Texas again-- he just signed on to his demise as a Senator from Texas. I will support ANY primary challenger if he runs again unless he resigns, retires, or dies in office. THIS is his LAST Rodeo.....
His word is no longer trustworthy.
If I run into him again face to face, I will call him out for his cowardace and for not keeping a PROMISE he made that he would NEVER support raising the debt limit again.
He flat out LIED, and this makes the THIRD TIME now.
TIME TO THROW THESE RINOs OUT of the "republican"party.
Time for a new party that will stand for against the those hastening the financial RUIN of our great country.

I think WE are coming to make or break...the government can only function if they get taxpayers to line up and pay their taxes....so... let's put taxes in escrow and fight back by with/holding their money...it's legal for anyone to challenge the government...not with guns or demonstrations...but with their bread and butter...money....

And a woke culture of IDIOTS.
And racists and liars and thieves.
Putin would be proud to be the leader.

If they can't do it by the rules they just change the rules. Blame McConnell for that. Totally against everything the Senate has done for over 200 years, where it takes 60 votes not 50.
