Once again, Department of Veterans Affairs bureaucrats are making a concerted effort to prevent veterans from using our health-care benefits at community-based providers outside the VA system — despite a law requiring them to do so. (Snip) The results were startling and add to concern about the 20 million appointments that have been canceled, denied or delayed since the pandemic’s start. My daughter is a vet - medically discharged and thankfully, most of the time the Des Moines VA center is able to help her. Hubby is also a vet and only uses a few of the services at the VA center (hearing mostly) because of distance and having alternative insurance. Daughter has lost several friends that weren't able to get help in a timely manner and committed suicide and I hate that.

I'm a health care provider and I WAS seeing veterans referred to me. When I wanted to Rx medications for them, the VA policy is that the VA pharmacies will only fill Rxes from VA providers. Mostly an insane policy!

When Trump was on office there was the Veterans Choice Program which did not work very well. Trump gave the vets the Mission Act which put vets at the center of their care. The Choice program was a mess. The Mission Act program has helped hundreds of thousands of vets. The current administration has no use for the military and so is preventing care be given the way The Mission Act was set up to do. This is our govt, denying healthcare to vets.

President Trump worked on actually FIXING the problem, which was really what they all hated, since it meant they were not doing it. Now, if President Trump decides to run in 2024, he should make this the center piece of his campaign. The VA should be the best care in the nation, on par with the Mayo Clinic and places of such high esteem. The best doctors should be competing to be a doctor at the VA. I can assure you, the money is there.

No surprise. After the WWII government agencies were manned by disciplined MEN. Things ran well then. Sixties came and the standards were lowered to accommodate women and minorities. Now here we are.

President Trump really made a big effort to make some real changes. I do not think the Congressional oversight committees fought as hard with him. Guys, if Trump could not do all that needed doing because of the evil permanent federal bureaucracy in place, I no longer think it can be done by normal channels. The Deep State and levels of entrenched federal employees have more power than elected officials. I am glad to hear your husband and daughter are getting what they need for medical care. I thank you for your family’s sacrifices for our country. I am so sorry about her friends. I know the suicide rate among our veterans is alarmingly high.
