Has Alec Baldwin had a psychological break
or is this a tryout for his defense?

We’ve all heard the slogan “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people,” and human nature seems to bear out that bit of wisdom. The beginning of the book of Genesis recounts the story of Cain and Abel, two brothers who had a fatal falling out long before guns were invented. The only human remains found in the La Brea Tar Pits of Los Angeles belonged to a young woman who seems to have been a homicide victim 9000 years ago, again, long before guns were invented. Even after the invention of guns, people continue to kill each other with everything from common household implements to exotic poisons to complicated bombs.

From what I've read, he should be tried for man-slaughter or at least sued for wrongful death. Someone died . . . he pulled the trigger that caused the death.

While I first took this 'defense' to be as ridiculous as it sounds on its face, it occurred to me that the firearm involved was a replica of a late 19th-century single-action revolver that, presumably, lacks many of the safety features of a modern handgun. Is it possible that snapping the hammer without actually cocking it or pulling the trigger could cause an accidental discharge if, contrary to normal safe practice, a live round was left in the top chamber? Perhaps someone here with more experience with antique firearms could answer this question.

Not only did he pull the trigger he had to manually c-ck the hammer all the way back before the trigger was pulled. This was a modern version of a single action western revolver that the hammer has to be c-cked with each shot. The trigger does not pull itself. Just goes to show what an arrogant moron this guy is.

Why would they have a real gun on a set in the first place? Why were people using real guns for target practice on the set? If a gun was not needed in the scene he was in, why was he playing with one? If he is so against guns, why make a movie using guns? He is working hard to cover his b--tt, but it is not working. He needs to stand trial and let justice be served. He is not above the law.

Just so sad all around. A young woman is dead, her family is devastated, and now Baldwin - whether or not he admits it - forever has to confront his own ignorance and flawed worldview. It looks to me like his sins have found him. We should pray for everyone involved.

Modern replicas of the 1873 Colt have a transfer bar safety that prevents the hammer/firing pin from resting on a loaded cartridge. The Pietta manufactured revolver has this feature. It prevents the weapon from firing accidentally if the uncocked hammer is struck. The original Colt did not have this, it was common for a cowboy to be crippled from having a stirrup drop and strike his holstered gun while his was cinching the saddle on his horse. To be safe, they would only load 5 rounds in the cylinder with the hammer resting on an empty chamber while in the holster. Six rounds would be loaded into the ''six-shooter'' only when it was going to be used immediately and not carried in a holster.

Thanks #14, great info. The gun could have been cocked when Baldwin took possession but that doesn't excuse him pointing the gun at someone. Everyone should know you don't point any gun at someone unless you have intentions to pull the trigger.

If I was in a room holding a gun when someone took a lethal round and I didn't pull the trigger, the first thing out of my mouth would be how the hell did that happen I didn't even pull the bleeping trigger. I wouldn't run around showing my distraught self in public apologizing, blaming the prop lady and weeks later mention by the way funny thing, I didn't even pull the trigger. If an original Colt 45 had a live round under the hammer and you dropped it and it landed on the hammer spur, an accidental discharge can happen. That's why many carried them with no cartridge in that chamber and only loaded the other five. Other than that as others have noted it takes a deliberate act starting with pulling the hammer back. I'll have to check but I don't think that prior to the final pull from half cok to full cok that the cylinder is fully indexed so that an accidental release of the hammer (prior to reaching half cok) would cause it to fall on the primer. The live round needed to be one chamber away from alignment with the barrel so that the necessary act of cocking the hammer would index the live round to the firing position. He's relying on the ignorance of the public at large who have been led to believe that guns possess a form of artificial intelligence and ninja robot skills and go about slaughtering people all by themselves.

A friend at the local Publix who sometimes helps me to my car with the groceries asked me about the Alec Baldwin shooting, and I responded that Alec had violated all four of Col. Jeff Cooper's Rules of Gun Safety before he shot Ms. Hutchins. One could never handle a gun less responsibly than Baldwin did. But, hey, he won't allow any NRA people around his sets, even though NRA members are the most rigorous on gun safety. My Publix friend mentioned, approvingly, that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has, after Baldwin, decided not to allow guns on any more of his movie sets. I disagreed, calling the Rock a pussy, because he has proven himself to be one.

To have gone off without pulling the trigger, it would have had to not had the transfer bar safety which I nearly all the Colt Single Action Army replicas have. If they had a gun that did not have it that was negligent in itself. Even if they had a gun without a transfer bar, the only way it could have gone off without the trigger being pulled would be if the hammer was all the way down on a live round (which is an incredibly negligent way to carry a gun) and the hammer was struck a moderate blow. Or if the hammer was on half c_ck or full c_ck the only way it could have gone off is if the hammer was struck hard enough to break off the sear notch or the half c_ck notch. If that occurred it would be evident in the most quick examination of the gun. For that matter it a notch had been worn or broken before it was given to Baldwin it would have been evident to anyone handling the gun and they should have stopped using the gun.

Re #14. Pietta replicas of the Colt 1873 revolver have mostly been made with the same exact mechanism as the original Colts. Some versions have been made with transfer bars, but seem to be in a definite minority, in their current online page they only mention the transfer bar design with their .22 rimfire caliber guns, none of the larger centerfire calibers are mentioned. The odds are very high that this was a real duplicate of the Colt 1873, not a transfer bar model.

Well, #34. I also think it was an accident. An accident caused by Baldwin’s stupidity along with others. Saying the gun just “went off” is an attempt to weasel out of responsibility and he also figures that the media will run with this and provide him cover and they will. How old is Baldwin? How many hours/days has he used a gun on set? How many armorers instructed him, showed him the weapon was clear or hot? Most importantly how many times did he actually shoot a blank at another actor? THAT sort of scene would normally have everyone triple checking the weapon. He is FAR too experienced to claim he didn't know what happened. He has handled weapons of all types for decades. He lost control and was showing off, trying to be weirdly aggressive with the women or maybe he was stoned. In any case there are far too many factors at play to pass this off as the kind of accident that could happen to anyone. People are convicted on far less facts than this. He is guilty of manslaughter and should serve time. At least as much as Wesley Snipes, who didn't kill anyone.

After months of rejecting invitations from Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, Dr. Anthony Fauci joined Neil Cavuto on Friday afternoon to face questions about the Omicron variant and the Biden administration's handling of the pandemic that the president promised he'd "shut down." The news of the emerging Omicron variant was greeted with a giant shrug by most of America, and it’s no surprise why. The total failure of our establishment to earn our trust over the last two years of this pandemic made it inevitable that a huge number of people, at best, don’t care, and at worst think it’s a calculated lie designed to prolong this nonsense. The COVIDians are positively turgid over the idea of more mandates, more lockdowns, more masks, and more viro-fascism. So when the CEO of Moderna states that the vaccine might not be as effective against this new mutation as to earlier ones,

Antifa and BLM typically throw their tantrums in liberal hellholes, or where guns aren’t easily allowed, like Portland, Seattle, Chicago, and New York City. Kenosha, Wisc., was a different story. When Antifa and BLM went to Kenosha to riot against the police shooting of an armed black sexual predator named Jacob Blake, they were probably thinking they could play by their usual rules: burn and loot with near impunity, and attack whomever they want. Kyle Rittenhouse changed those rules.

(snip)Biden bragged about “the many times” he’d been to Israel, and then decided to alter history and insert himself as an important player in the Six-Day War. “I have known every — every prime minister well since Golda Meir, including Golda Meir,” Biden said to applause. “And during the Six-Day War, I had an opportunity to — she invited me to come over because I was going to be the liaison between she and the Egyptians about the Suez,

Eighty House Republicans voted with Democrats on Tuesday to pass the Immunization Infrastructure Modernization Act, which if passed by the Senate and signed into law would fund a federal vaccination database. According to the bill, also called H. R. 550, the government would provide $400 million in taxpayer dollars to fund “immunization system data modernization and expansion,” a system otherwise defined as “a confidential, population-based, computerized database that records immunization doses administered by any health care provider to persons within the geographic area covered by that database.” The text specifically outlines an expansion of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Public Health Department capabilities and the

Steven Spielberg’s long-awaited remake of Stephen Sondheim’s hit musical, West Side Story, is raising eyebrows after the director decided to release the film without subtitles to help English-speaking audiences follow along with the Spanish dialog. Spielberg and writer Tony Kushner decided to hew toward authenticity for the scenes involving the Puerto Rican characters and have them speak in Spanish in many of their scenes. However, Spielberg also decided to forego subtitles to help strictly English-speaking audiences understand what the characters are saying in the Spanish-only and mixed Spanish-English scenes, The Blast reported. Some Spanish-speaking commenters on Twitter were thrilled that Spielberg was excluding English-speakers from understanding the Spanish scenes.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) flexed its social justice muscles this week when the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition released a new video advertising the various causes that the organization will push. The video marks the coalition’s first step onto the media scene after the NBA announced the social justice-minded group last year. “Our goal is really simple. We want to take moments of protest, moments of people power like we saw last year and turn them into public policy.” Executive Director of the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition James Cadogan said in the video. “We want to change laws.”

“Say the word!” speaker after speaker implored the crowd. Reparations!” the audience responded loudly each time. Dozens of faith leaders and advocates gathered outside the Statehouse in Trenton for a rally Thursday to continue a more than two-year push for New Jersey to establish a task force to study the history of slavery in the state and consider possible reparations because of it. The demonstrators, organized by the New Jersey Faith Allies for a Reparations Task Force, urged the Democratic-controlled state Legislature to pass the bill (S322) during the lame-duck voting session the began Thursday and ends Jan. 11. “We come here today to demand

The parents of the 15-year-old charged in this week's deadly shooting at Michigan's Oxford High School have been charged with four counts each of homicide involuntary manslaughter. The charges against James and Jennifer Crumbley were filed Friday morning in 52nd District Court in Rochester Hills. It is rare for parents to be charged like this, CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig said. "What the prosecutor is saying is: Let's look at the parents' responsibility,” (snip) "This is really a new frontier." James Crumbley bought the gun four days before it was used in the shooting, prosecutor Karen McDonald said Friday at a news conference. Sophomore Ethan Crumbley was with him and later posted

Reading from a prepared statement that presumably was handed to her by a staffer on the Democrat-controlled J6 U.S. House investigation committee, self-righteous anti-Trump Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R – Wyo.) seemed to be threatening POTUS 45 with perjury charges.[President Trump] “has recently suggested that he wants to debate members of this committee. This committee’s investigation into the violent assault on our Capitol on January 6 is not a game,” she declared during a committee hearing.“When this committee convenes hearings, witnesses will be called to testify under oath.
