“Say the word!” speaker after speaker implored the crowd. Reparations!” the audience responded loudly each time. Dozens of faith leaders and advocates gathered outside the Statehouse in Trenton for a rally Thursday to continue a more than two-year push for New Jersey to establish a task force to study the history of slavery in the state and consider possible reparations because of it. The demonstrators, organized by the New Jersey Faith Allies for a Reparations Task Force, urged the Democratic-controlled state Legislature to pass the bill (S322) during the lame-duck voting session the began Thursday and ends Jan. 11. “We come here today to demand

Also, a slight reworking of the organization name would yield a snappy acronym that reflects the value of their complaints: Faith Allies for a Reparations Taskforce.

NJ should implement the California style reparation plan where the "reparees" go around to all the malls and loot everything in sight. Isn't that a form of reparation? I'll bet the liberal minds who allow the "looters', we all know who they are, to have get out of jail free cards see it as a leftist version of reparation.

I support reparations to all living persons who were slaves prior to the Emancipation Proclamation.
But, I think that they already got a mule and 40 acres.....and died about 75 years ago, or longer.

Most colonies had legal slavery early on. But it was only profitable in the south, except for the New England shipping enterprises that actually transported the slaves from Africa.
Once it was no longer profitable in the North, those folks decided that it was wrong and should be eliminated.
Not that I'm being cynical or anything........

Reparations for who? Most ethnic groups faced discrimination. Are they demanding reparations for indentured servants, or Irish, or maybe Asian immigrants who had to somehow make it on their own while fighting against massive discrimination by other established groups? I am sure they are just wanting money for blacks who may be descended from slaves, or perhaps the other Africans who sold them into slavery, the ones that were taken care of because someone thought they were worth something. How about reparations for the billions, or probably trillions, that the U.S. has spent to help the blacks here, and their cousins in Africa?

What pure garbage. My grandparents came to the U.S. from Russia, Poland, AND Europe in the early 1900's with NOTHING and no safety net. Why should my tax dollars be spent on historical slavery. Why should any Black, generations away from the events , get recompense. They have had many decades to recover in all aspects of our society. They have received numerous types of benefits. If they cannot stand on their own two feet now, that is THEIR personal problem. So many Blacks do not want to take personal responsibility for ANYTHING. They are not OUR responsibility. I know many Blacks that do not fit this mold and who fit into America just fine.

For anyone hoping to get some of those sweet Repa-bucks, any commission is always going to end up deciding individual payments are too complicated and payment will take the form of a giant social justice, “activist” slush fund.
Call it the “No Grifter Left Behind Fund.”

"Please, pay us this money because we cannot co-exist with you following the laws and expectations of Western civilization. We were never meant to co-exist with you, since we never stepped foot out of Africa on our own even though we pre-date you by thousands of years, we never figured out how to sail. By your giving us this money and our acceptance of it, we acknowledge we are an inferior species of homo sapiens and will forever need your handouts while we await your self-destruction of the great society you built in order to level the playing field we currently cannot compete on."
This should be a disclaimer that every black person should sign if they really believe they deserve a single penny of this blood money.

For God's sake, give these people the 40 acres (preferably in Death Valley or some other desert) and a mule that General Sherman promised their ancestors in1865 and be done with it! Let the descendants of those freed slaves who Sherman made the promise to fight over how to divvy it up amongst themselves.

Are descendants of Black slaveholders going to ante up? Also, not all Blacks living here are descendants of slaves. Check out Obama for openers. This is nonsense and it is tearing us apart. The Chicoms are eating our lunch and the best the democrats can do is to come up with this garbage.

OK, I'd go for #20K to any black person who moves to Liberia, and permanently and irrevocably gives up American citizenship, in writing, in a formal courtroom process.
We could improve the country this way. The malcontents would be gone, permanently, for cheap.

From Wiki... Slave states and free states: Five of the Northern self-declared states adopted policies to at least gradually abolish slavery: Pennsylvania in 1780, New Hampshire and Massachusetts in 1783, and Connecticut and Rhode Island in 1784. The Republic of Vermont had limited slavery in 1777, while it was still independent before it joined the United States as the 14th state in 1791. These state jurisdictions thus enacted the first abolition laws in the Atlantic World.[4] By 1804 (including New York (1799) and New Jersey (1804)), all of the Northern states had abolished slavery or set measures in place to gradually abolish it,
Let me put it another way.... NO WHERE IN THE WORLD BEFORE THE CONSTITUTION PASSED WAS SLAVERY OUTLAWED. The Constitution, 10th Amendment, gave the individual States the power to pass their own laws and 8 of them did. England followed. Mexico partly followed. And the whole of this country did after the Civil War. This country WAS AT THE FOREFRONT in abolishing slavery.
That's my reading.

Sadly, the average thug living in the ghetto doesn't know who his daddy is. I have no idea how he is going to prove he had ancestors that were legal slaves 150 years ago.
Oops, applying that logic, reason, and facts again. Since lie-berals don't have enough working brain cells to be able to comprehend logic, reason, or facts, I guess I just wasted my time...

Any discount in the name of the Union soldiers who died? Wounded? Imprisoned in Andersonville? And those to receive reparations, have they been making efforts on behalf of those still enslaved around the world today? is there a system for excluding people such as Kamala Harris whose identify includes slaveholding, from the reparations she believes due here from people whose ancestors actually did fight for freedom? Also, what about light-skinned Blacks who get treated much better, and who extremely likely to be descended from slaveowners. They're off the hook? Why? Most of America had zero to do with this, some gave their lives to help, and if you want to find the descendant of a slaveowner today, where you should look, is for a light skinned Black American. Who does nothing whatsoever to defend Black children from Planned Parenthood, dotes on the religions and peoples who actually ran this operation, does nothing for slavery overseas which continues, and has no interest in sorrows other than his own. GFY

Well we have GOOD News and, of course, BAD news.
The Good news is you will get reparations...The BAD news is that you have to pay back all the handouts you've gotten over your entire life...That means YOU OWE each TAXPAYER $2.743 Million Dollars.
Have a Nice Day!

My whole working career I had to overcome 'Affirmative Action'. I had to out-score, out-work, out-perform various 'favored minority' individuals in order to get hired, keep my job, and get promoted.
After 30+ years of being discriminated AGAINST, as one of those 'EEeevil White Males'..... I DEMAND reparations!

They want reparizzles, and they want 'em now, in recompense for the lingering effects of slavery and other White-caused negatives. Why not make them completely whole and repatriate them to the African nation of their choice?
