Concerns over the new COVID-19 variant discovered in South Africa hammered stock markets across the world Friday, sending all three of the major US indices down at least 1 percent. I reported earlier today on the announcement about the new COVID variant out of South Africa that immediately had some freaking out because it was supposedly “heavily mutated” and that the spike protein was “dramatically different.” That raised questions about whether immunity and the vaccines would be protective against it. There were also suggestions that it was “highly contagious among young people.” So, it seemed obvious they were gearing up to go crazy over this again.
