Liberal socialist utopias such as California are a blessing for deadbeat klepto hobos from around the world thanks to the state's lack of prosecution of shoplifting, but the same policies are becoming a major headache for nationwide retailers such as Best Buy which this morning reported that despite beating on the top and bottom line (revenues of $11.9 billion vs expectations of $11.7BN, EPS of $2.08, beating est of $1.96), its margins missed(Snip)“We are seeing more and more particularly organized retail crime,” Chief Executive Officer Corie Barry said on a conference call with analysts. “You can see that pressure in our financials, and more

My thoughts exactly, #1. Many businesses have doors that can only be unlocked by someone inside with some kind of remote. I know it might be difficult to try to keep people out on Black Friday when places like Best Buy will be overwhelmed, but on most days when I have gone into a Best Buy there aren't all that many customers and letting them in one at a time would be easy. I can't imagine such locking doors are very expensive and would probably pay for themselves in short order by keeping flash mobs out. Plus a single shoplifter could be locked in unless he or she is armed.

Smartest thing Best Buy could do for their bottom line is pull out of California. Move to Texas or Florida or somewhere that actually wants businesses, Plus there won't be 50 person smash and grabs in Texas or Florida. The only problem would be that they'd bring their California mindset with them. fjb

Something doesn't add up. Stock is up 38% this year, revenue and earnings exceeded forecast, yet missng the anticipated 23.6% margin by 0.1% caused a 17% drop in share price? Classic definition of a market analyst: someone who will explain tomorrow why what he predicted yesterday didn't happen today. And if organized retail crime is that much of a problem to Best Buy, why isn't the CEO doing something about it?

Agree with #9. Best Buy is a crap store. A (non-technical) friend asked me some years ago to help him buy a laptop. BB had a floor model at almost half off. We got it to his house, fired it up and discovered all that adware plus two malware programs. I guess it was some customer who thought it funny to load it up with viruses but it took me three hours to get it cleaned up.
