WASHINGTON — The vote to renominate President Donald Trump is set to be conducted in private later this month, without members of the press present, said a spokeswoman for the Republican National Convention, citing the coronavirus. While Trump called off the public components of the convention in Florida last month, citing spiking cases of the virus across the country, 336 delegates are scheduled to gather in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Aug. 24 to formally vote to make Trump the GOP standard-bearer once more.Nominating conventions are traditionally meant to be media bonanzas, as political parties seek to leverage the attention the events draw to spread their message to as many voters

Chicago saw a dramatic increase in homicides and shootings in the first seven months of 2020 and a particularly remarkable increase in July, reflecting a growing trend in the U.S. that raised questions about potential police reform in major cities.Data released on Saturday showed that Chicago saw 440 homicides between January 2020 through the end of June, a 52 percent increase from the same time period last year (which saw 290 homicides). Shooting victims similarly increased by 51 percent (1,480 to 2,240) and shooting incidents themselves rose 47 percent (from 1,210 to 1,783).Crime tends to increase during summers, but recent events have fueled unrest in the U.S.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Isaias downgraded to tropical storm strength Saturday afternoon but it’s wind strength is expected to rise again into a hurricane as it approaches southeast Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center’s 5 p.m. ET update. The storm’s tropical force winds are expected to reach the southeast coast of Florida Saturday night. Isaias’ center was 115 miles away from Fort Lauderdale at the time of the 5 p.m. update. Lawmakers reported progress on a huge coronavirus relief bill Saturday, as political pressure mounts to restore an expired $600-per-week supplemental unemployment benefit and send funding to help schools reopen.
“This was the longest meeting we’ve had and it was more productive than the other meetings,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who was part of the rare weekend session. “We’re not close yet, but it was a productive discussion — now each side knows where they’re at.” (snip) The Democratic leaders are eager for an expansive agreement, as are President Donald Trump and top Republicans like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

BERLIN - Thousands protested Germany’s coronavirus restrictions Saturday in a Berlin demonstration marking what organizers called “the end of the pandemic”--a declaration that comes just as authorities are voicing increasing concerns about an uptick in new infections. With few masks in sight, a dense crowd marched through downtown Berlin from the Brandenburg Gate. Protesters who came from across the country held up homemade signs with slogans like “Corona, false alarm,” “We are being forced to wear a muzzle,” “Natural defense instead of vaccination” and “We are the second wave.”

TikTok, an app known for quirky, short videos, is facing political heat because of its ties to China. US President Donald Trump has ramped up his campaign against the short-form video app. On Friday, the president was reportedly considering an order that would force TikTok's Chinese parent company to divest its US operations. Microsoft is reportedly interested in buying the app, according to The New York Times. (Microsoft declined to comment.) Hours after those reports, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he'd prefer to ban the app, an idea his administration floated earlier this month. "We're banning them from the United States," the president said

One night in the waning days of the Great Depression, a woman from Harford County told Baltimore Police she’d found a baby in the back seat of her car, which was parked on a street near Pennsylvania Station.
The story made the front page of The Evening Sun. The infant, taken to an orphanage, grew up to have a happy life.
Now, one of that infant’s grown sons, curious about his father’s origins, has turned the story on its head.

A “cold and ruthless” President Obama abandoned his Kenyan family in their greatest hours of need, according to a new tell-all by estranged half brother Malik Obama.
“He got rich and became a snob,” Malik, 62, told The Post via Skype from his home in the Kenyan village of Nyang’oma Kogelo. “What I saw was he was the kind of person that wants people to worship him. He needs to be worshiped and I don’t do that. I am his older brother so I don’t do that.”

One of the many great things about being an American is that we have the right to freedom of speech. I may not agree with what my neighbor has to say, but I will fight to the death for his or her ability to say it. This concept was a founding principle that is now in jeopardy because of the monopoly power wielded by social media giants. An example of this disturbing trend occurred this week when a video from several frontline doctors who questioned the status quo position on COVID-19 treatments and protocols was summarily scrubbed from most top internet and social media sites. After going “viral,” the video was immediately

While a world without textbooks or homework and where getting the wrong answer is celebrated may sound like an elementary student’s fantasy, that becoming reality would damage a generation of young minds. However, that is exactly what is happening in public elementary schools.
I recently spoke with a fourth grade teacher from the midwest, who shared her experiences of curriculum shifting from history and science and towards political indoctrination, to the detriment of students’ learning. For this person’s privacy, she will remain nameless.
In supervising fourth grade, she teaches a little of everything: math, reading, language arts, social studies, and science. Recently her school district, like many others, switched to “integrated curriculum.”

In a role reversal from their eight years together in the White House, Barack Obama has become Joe Biden’s wingman and, in his understated way, his hatchet man.The former president’s Thursday eulogy for the late Rep. WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court has allowed President Trump to defy Congress and continue to spend more than $6 billion diverted from military funds to pay for the construction of a border wall in parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and California.
By 5-4 vote, the justices on Friday rebuffed lawyers for the Sierra Club and House Democrats who sued to challenge Trump’s diversion of funds as illegal and unconstitutional.
They won rulings before judges in California and Texas, but in a brief order last summer, the court allowed Trump to continue spending the disputed funds while the litigation continues.

Lawyers tell the joke about a person on trial for mariticide – killing one’s spouse. The defendant testified, “I didn’t do it and, if I did, it was in self-defense.”
The point for lawyers is that you can plead inconsistent legal theories, but not inconsistent facts.
Which brings me to Portland, Seattle and the Democrats. On the one hand, while their cities are looted and burned the Dems maintain that in fact the looters and burners are “perfectly peaceful.”
The Dems’ lackeys in the media spin the same tale.

No one would argue that Rep. John Lewis doesn’t deserve a proper memorial. He was a civil rights icon and a long-serving member of Congress who was beloved by his colleagues. In the middle of a pandemic, however, how do we decide who gets the pomp and circumstance of a traditional burial and who has to watch their loved one go six feet under via Zoom call?
Funerals are important: they acknowledge the sanctity of life and allow friends and family to come together to grieve their loss. This reality doesn’t change based on how famous or revered an individual was to the general public:

Then, only two hours later, we got a reminder of where Trump might have gotten the idea that our democratic institutions don’t deserve respect: from his wildly irresponsible predecessor. During his eulogy at the funeral of the civil-rights hero John Lewis, Obama called for a degree of norm-shattering in service of the partisan interests of the Democrats that will, quite simply, tear this country asunder.

The New York Times Guild raised eyebrows on Friday for recommending "sensitivity reads" as part of the paper's publication process.
The group of unionized journalists revealed they have met with Times leadership earlier in the month, stressing that the paper needs "a top-to-bottom resetting of priorities to improve the working conditions of our colleagues of color."
The guild urged its employer to diversify its workforce to 24 percent Black employees and over 50 percent people of color by 2025 as an apparent reflection of the New York City population. They also called for a minimum of job applicants to be people of color and that staff of color should be added

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Seven people, including an Alaska state lawmaker, died Friday when two small airplanes collided in midair near the airport in Soldotna, a small community on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula.
Alaska State Troopers said state Rep. Gary Knopp, 67, of Kenai was the sole occupant of one plane. The other plane was flown by a local pilot, and carried a guide from Kansas and four people from South Carolina.
“This is an unfathomable tragedy for multiple families today,” Alaska Department of Public Safety Commissioner Amanda Price said. “Troopers and partner agencies have worked together diligently at the scene

How many tens of thousands of Americans must die because of Dr. Fauci’s mistakes?
It is becoming more and more apparent with each new day and as more information is accumulated that Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx, the CDC and the FDA failed in their response to the China Coronavirus.
Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx pushed a completely fraudulent Imperial College study to lockdown and destroy the greatest economy in US history.
Dr. Anthony Fauci has made at least 15 critical mistakes and contradictions since the start of the pandemic in March.
Perhaps Dr. Fauci’s most deadly mistake is his response to hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) treatments for the disease.

During the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein citizen Donald Trump’s name came up. The FBI attempted over and over to tie the famous New York developer to misconduct, but to no avail.
Per a review of documents released last night in the Jeffrey Epstein case, the FBI tried to tie the now deceased pedophile to citizen Donald Trump but were unable to do so.
The FBI failed to drag Trump into the Epstein mess. But they sure tried. One of the abused victims mentioned that Donald Trump was a good friend of Epstein’s.
