It’s all fun and protests until someone vandalized your home.
Olympia, Washington, Mayor Cheryl Selby has been a vocal supporter of Black Lives Matter and those protesting and rioting across the nation, yet when her own home was vandalized during the demonstrations, she called it “domestic terrorism.”
The Olympian reported late last week that “two groups converged in downtown Olympia, and some became destructive, burning flags, smashing windows, and spray painting businesses” before moving into Selby’s neighborhood and vandalizing her home.
One group, the outlet explained, comprised about 50 people wearing black to recreate a previous protest in the area.

The past fire-lit weeks in America’s cities have made clear that the protests, and the riots that attend them, have little to do with the condemnable alleged murder of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis.
Even in the non-violent demonstrations, protesters can be seen burning the American flag, an act that just 30 years ago engendered such outrage it spurred Congress to pass an unconstitutional law, but doesn’t even warrant coverage today. In broad daylight, protesters have defaced and toppled statues dedicated to any and all figures of America’s history.

Physicists have traced three of the four forces of nature — the electromagnetic force and the strong and weak nuclear forces — to their origins in quantum particles. But the fourth fundamental force, gravity, is different.
Our current framework for understanding gravity, devised a century ago by Albert Einstein, tells us that apples fall from trees and planets orbit stars because they move along curves in the space-time continuum. These curves are gravity. According to Einstein, gravity is a feature of the space-time medium; the other forces of nature play out on that stage.

We are making an important change today in our writing style. When referring to a culture, ethnicity or group of people from the African diaspora we will use “Black,” with an uppercase B. We are making this change to NJ Advance Media’s style guide to acknowledge and respect the word represents a people with shared cultures and experiences, and not a color. Black, we believe, should be used like other identifiers, such as “Asian,” “Latino” or “African American.” We also will continue to use “African American” in stories when warranted, as “African American” and “Black” aren’t always interchangeable.

The wealthy stars in Beverly Hills support large Black Lives Matter protests—provided they’re held elsewhere. The city issued an ban on any gatherings over 10 people after 9 p.m. until further notice to “preserve peace and tranquility.” A proclamation issued June 13 cited the following rationale, in part, for its decision:
• The Director of Emergency Services declared an “existence of a local emergency” because the city was “potentially subject to violent protests.”
• Property damage was incurred on May 30 along with “widespread acts of violence.”
• A group called “OCCUPY” protested until 1:00 a.m.

The ruling will lead to a tsunami of polarizing court cases and further degradation of Americans’ natural rights to free speech, to free association, and to worshipping God as their consciences require. All this in the name of “equality,” a word that has become a totalitarian weapon.(Snip)This decision is a disgrace to these bedrocks of Western civilization, our nation built upon them, the voters who vote for them, and to these men’s honor.

UPDATE (6/16/20): NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison declares that an investigation of the incident did not find evidence of a crime from any Shake Shack employees. The original report begins here: An investigation is underway after three New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers were allegedly poisoned with bleach at a Lower Manhattan Shake Shack on Monday evening. While policing a protest in Lower Manhattan, the Police Benevolent Association (PBA) and the Detectives Endowment Association said three NYPD officers were poisoned with bleach

President Donald Trump confirmed Monday a major reduction in U.S. troop strength in Germany will go ahead as he faulted the “delinquent” NATO ally for failing to pay enough for its own defense.“We’re putting the number down to 25,000 soldiers,” Trump said at the White House.“We’re protecting Germany and they’re delinquent. That doesn’t make sense,” the president continued, referring to Germany’s failure to attain a goal set by all NATO members in 2014 to spend at least two percent of gross national product on defense by 2024. Germany says it hopes to reach two percent by 2031.“Until they pay, we’re removing our soldiers, a number of our soldiers,”

“Can we all just get along?”
That was the plea of Rodney King after a Simi Valley jury failed to convict any of the four cops who beat him into submission after a 100-mile-an-hour chase on an LA freeway.
King’s plea came after the 1992 LA riots, the worst since the New York City draft riots in 1863 when Lincoln had to send in federal troops.
In the aftermath of today’s protests and riots after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, we hear similar calls. President Donald Trump must “reach out” and “unify the nation.”
But how?

Rep. Ayanna Pressley says non-racist white people need to essentially become activists if they want to be considered culturally “good enough” in 2020.
The Massachusetts Democrat recently spoke with comedian Samantha Bee about the George Floyd protests, racism in America, and the role of “Karen” and “Becky”—blanket terms for all white women—moving forward. “Everyone will say, ‘Well, you know, I’m not a racist,’” Ms. Pressley told the host for a recent “Full Frontal” interview. “Yeah, great. That’s not good enough. What you need to be is anti-racist. And that means being intentional and deliberate and unapologetic and dismantling structural racism

A new poll offers grim but realistic news about America: One-third of our fellow countrymen, including 40 percent of Republicans, say we are on the verge of a civil war. It was a rare admission when President Trump told The Washington Post last year that he regretted the way he treated his older brother, Fred Jr., who died of alcoholism. But he insisted that a subsequent financial feud with his late brother’s children had been settled amicably, saying, “We all get along.”
Now, however, Trump’s niece — the daughter of Fred Jr. — has written a book slated to be published in July that could explode the image of a unified Trump family.

Six months ago, when journalist Christopher Caldwell published a book asserting that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 had grown into a “rival constitution” that superseded the old Constitution, everyone laughed. (Snip)Singled out for particular ridicule was the sentence on the penultimate page of The Age of Entitlement where Caldwell advises conservatives that “the only way back to the free country of their ideals was through the repeal of the civil rights laws.” How could the fate of American freedom depend on something so radical, and so unlikely, as the repeal of the Civil Rights Act?

There’s a lot of ugly stuff coming out of CHAZ. We’ve seen people who condemn walls as evil build walls; people who claim that mandatory ID is racist demand ID; people who dismiss farmers as morons “plant” crops on cardboard; and people who hate the Second Amendment instantly cede power to others with guns. We’ve seen also the kind of thing we already expect from the Black Lives Matter, Antifa, and anarchist crowd: Property destruction, mob violence, suppression of free speech, and outright hostility to Christianity.

In the wake of George Floyd’s death and the subsequent protests/riots calling for “defunding the police,” Democrats have started targeting police unions, saying they are obstacles to accountability and reform. Do they realize that the same can be said of teachers’ unions?
In a recent interview about reforming the police in his city, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said that “The elephant in the room with regard to police reform is the police union. … We do not have the ability to get rid of many of these officers that we know have done wrong in the past due to issues with both the contract and the arbitration associated with the union.”

Just as President Trump’s reelection team is being inundated by a tsunami of ticket requests for his first campaign rally since March, the public health bureaucrats who bungled the initial coronavirus outbreak have launched a new campaign of fear-mongering. Last Friday, while Dr. Anthony Fauci cautiously speculated that the country may not see a second wave of COVID-19 cases, the “experts” at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) were discussing the possible need for another phase of job-killing “mitigation efforts.” Not coincidentally, the CDC also published new guidelines for large public gatherings that obviously have more to do with hobbling the president’s rallies than public health.

The final stage of the election campaign and its result will depend on four factors: management of the balance between demand for police reform and concern for the maintenance of public order; whether there is a significant revival of COVID-19; the swiftness of the economic recovery; and the resolution of questions about Joe Biden’s apparent capacity to serve as president. Hovering above the campaign will be the question of indictments from U.S. Attorney John Durham’s special counsel investigation. On all that has been revealed, crimes will be charged, and Attorney General William Barr confirmed last week that those whose conduct is likely to be judged controversial will be “familiar” names.

There an evergreen adage in the world of business, politics and entertainment: “Timing is Everything.” (snip) The key to triggering this transformation was to be a spark in the form of another white police killing of an unarmed black man and the unleashing of the dogs of violence and intimidation throughout the country, culminating in the subsequent acquiescing by the ruling class to virtually all demands of the radical left in order to ensure peace. But the tragedy that befell George Floyd came too soon, as the timing and circumstances were not yet in place for this master plan to succeed.

When demonstrations triggered by the death of George Floyd spread to Philadelphia, vandals defaced a statue outside City Hall of an old white man. They spray-painted the words “colonizer” and “murderer” on it. But the statue was of Matthias Baldwin, a 19th-century businessman and abolitionist.
Baldwin was a vocal opponent of slavery decades before the Civil War. He founded a school for poor black children and paid the teachers’ salaries for years. He also advocated voting rights for blacks well before the enactment of the 15th Amendment. None of this spared his likeness from today's Jacobins.
Nor was the Baldwin episode an isolated case.

Over the past week, following Seattle mayor Jenny Durkan’s decision to abandon the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct Building, left-wing protesters have transformed the surrounding neighborhood into the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ), hoping to create a new political authority based on social-justice principles. On its first night, the new micro-state was led by the armed paramilitaries of Antifa and the John Brown Gun Club, but after preventing the return of police and securing defined borders, the CHAZ has sought to implement civilian rule.
Almost immediately, activists established a social structure based on a “reverse hierarchy of oppression”:

Vladimir Putin’s traditional ways of dealing with crises don’t work with COVID-19. Unlike previous opponents he has faced, the coronavirus cannot be co-opted, jailed, invaded, bought off, forced into exile, or bullied into submission. And if this weren’t bad enough, it is fast becoming apparent that, in the fight against the pandemic, one of the Kremlin’s biggest problems is itself. Russia has been accused of spreading disinformation abroad, but disinformation is now hampering its response at home.
Russia’s response to coronavirus was initially impressive, shutting its 2,600-mile or so border with China in late January.

Rumor has it that also-ran Stacey Abrams is no longer on Joe Biden’s shortlist. This most likely means she will continue to denigrate the people in her home state of Georgia as a bunch of racist, Jim Crow-loving Confederates. She did an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week” and discussed looking at police funding following the police-involved shooting of Rayshard Brooks and her favorite voter suppression meme.
As usual, her framing of both of these issues is specifically structured to push her preferred narratives. Oddly, Stephanopoulos injected a little truth into the discussion, which was shocking.

The Black Civil Rights movement of 70 and 60 years ago was one of the holiest, most righteous movements in human history. Today it is impossible to believe that, even in post-World War II America, there were wide swaths of the country where Blacks had to use separate restrooms, drink from separate water coolers, had to go to the back of the bus and even then give over their seats to Whites if the front was full. They could not stay in hotels or motels or eat at certain restaurants, and —

President Trump says former national security adviser John Bolton could face criminal charges for mishandling classified information if he releases his tell-all memoir.
Trump told reporters in the White House Cabinet Room on Monday that he believes Bolton risks serious penalties, after reports the Trump administration will seek a court injunction barring release of the book.
“I will consider every conversation with me as president highly classified,” Trump said. “If the book gets out, he’s broken the law. And I would think that he would have criminal problems. I hope so.”
On Friday, Bolton and his publisher Simon & Schuster vowed to disregard White House claims that the book contains secrets
