The days of heading to newspaper websites to check out images of people who have been arrested in your area are coming to an end.The Tampa Bay Times will no longer publish mugshot galleries of the recently arrested amid concerns they “disproportionately show black and brown faces,” the paper announced Monday. The Memorial Day death of George Floyd in police custody has put a nationwide emphasis on systemic racism and police brutality, and the Tampa Bay paper will stop publishing photos of every person arrested in the area as a result.

They’re stereotypes because they are generally true

Disproportionately? How do they mean that? Are the photos matched to the individuals arrested, or is there some mistake? If it turns out that the pictures match the person arrested, and that the pictures are predominantly black or brown, what real reason do they give, other than trying to hide crime statistics? In the words of the immortal Paul Lynde, "Well, that's tough."

Yeah, it's kind of a turn off when a White Person sees a Bunch of Black Thugs dancing around the Flames of a Building they just looted and are now burning to the ground! Makes us think they're not nice people who really only want everyone to get along!! s/o

A hollow gesture unless they also change the variants of JarQuavious and Tyreek and Rondairious to "a man," lest anyone get wise. Anyone still working under the delusion that Barry's was a failed presidency? This nation would be running on cruise control if the Republicans were even 10% as effective as the mystery man from Kenya.

If blacks and browns committed crimes in proportion to their percentage of the population the problem would be solved. Facts can be such damnably racist things.

Shamelessly stolen from Thomas Sowell: The NBA officials call a disproportionate number of fouls on Black players. I guess the NBA is racist.

Yes, let's hide the truth so we can push our own narrative.

This is a good example of the media as memory hole. The public is not supposed to know...soon, they will not.

Stereotypes because they reveal who is committing crimes. Doesn’t support narrative.

Local news has been doing this for awhile. They ask for the public's help to find two young men wearing jeans and t-shirts - no other description. For some reason the crime solver's tip line does not ring.

Disproportionately? Actually it should be proportionately. The mug shots match the actual statistics .

Why don't they just post a picture of the same white guy a dozen times? They all look alike anyway.
For complete anonymity they will also have to doctor up the names a bit, Deshawn, LeJackson, Botswana, Demetrius, Mabonius and similar are dead giveaways that they aren't Amish.

Note that when a black thug murders a white victim, race is NEVER mentioned.
But when a White thug murders a Black victim the LEAD SENTENCE in the story is something like:
"White (whatever) kills a Black (whatever)".
White is the First Word in the story, and Black is in the tail-end of the first sentence.

Some years ago, I had occasion to delve into the photographic archives of our state's penal institution. Those men (and a tiny few women) were photographed as for a college annual--in coat & tie, or 'dressy' clothes. That changed somewhere in the early 1930's to stripes, then still later to orange jumpsuits. Talk about your stereotypes.

They should also refer to all criminals as John or Jane Doe that way the public would not be able to ascertain the criminal’s racial or ethnic identity from stereotypical inner city names. Once that happens there would really be no reason for anyone to read those newspapers.

Oh great, now we won't know if a neighbor that moves in is a felon, or child abuser...or normal...

You know how you read two articles about criminal assault and one says 'Bob Smith, a white man, beat up....' and the other says 'A man was beaten by an assailant...' And you suspect that the race of the second account assailant was one of those we-don't-want-to-mention-it minorities?
Yeh. It's like that.
