The CDC now says they have proof that wearing facemasks reduced COVID 19 cases in NYC by 66,000 from April 17th to May 9th. (snip) There is no way they would know this, and it is as made up as the modeling numbers that CDC put out in March that showed that hundreds of millions would get the disease and millions would die. That is the study that destroyed the economy and caused governors throughout the country to require us to wear masks, social distance and avoid large groups for the first time in our lives.

Just returned to work at a salon- I dislike wearing masks and talking on phones with a burning passion. Wearing masks as a healthy person will actually make us sick- so done with the farce ..

The author may disagree with the CDC recommendation but he cannot use data from non-mask states to make his point. Nor can he use past CD idiocy to disprove its newest advice. New York is a unique environment in terms of population density and the requirement for most of the population to use public transportation as in subways and buses. There just isn't a comparable environment conducive to covid spread. Don't get me wrong - the CDC is hardly to be trusted. But insofar as New york City is concerned they might be right. Who to trust and what to do? We're somewhat on our own.

The Flu, every year, is also highly contagious, but Americans never went crazy with masks before. We are told that the Wuhan Flu is more deadly, but we see the same groups of people affected as with any other version of the Flu: Senior citizens and people with certain health problems.
We have never had a cure for any other Flu, just vaccines that may, or may not, be effective for the strain that emerges, since the specific strain is not known until it emerges. Too late then.

Another day of the MSM (including FOX) whipping the entire country into a frenzy. It's tragic just how much control a TV screen has on people. All this hatred, name-calling, destruction, willful ignorance, all going on BECAUSE THERE WILL BE A HUGE ELECTION IN NOVEMBER.
After the election, I predict all of this will calm down and go away.

It's all about controlling people and creating economic, social and political chaos so people will not want to re-elect President Trump.

Is that if you wear an N95 mask or better, or is this based on use of those home made masks or even worse, masks marked, hecho in China.

I agree with poster #1 - I am SO OVER this nonsense. We took our family whitewater rafting in NC this weekend and we were required (by state regs) to wear a mask on the bus to the river b/c non-family members were on the bus with us and then when we got to the river, we could take off our masks, but our poor guide was required to wear her mask the ENTIRE time. So much for, "we both need to be wearing masks to really protect each other." We were on OPEN water in breezy conditions on a perfectly sunny day. This takes ludicrous to a whole new level.
Poster #2 -- NYC-metro area is different. Make them all wear masks if they are so unique. The rest of the country needs to be released from the shackles of wearing masks. BTW, I predict a mass exodus from the NYC-metro area.

A model is not proof. These people are experts at junk science. Alot of that going on these days. Next we will hear how facemasks, social distancing, and the shutdown saved over 2 million lives. After all, over 2 million people were suppose to die.

As I mentioned here yesterday, I'm done with a mask. Self initiative is the only way out of it, for I cannot see any level of government ever giving us the all-clear sign that we can forego wearing them. Ever.

Instead of masks there should be talk and promotion of effective treatment. My sense now is that people especially the elderly are more frightened of the isolation that is forced on the patient than the illness itself. Among my elderly mother’s friends there is a recent loss of a member. He was forced into isolation and died alone. That I think is what has many elderly scared. It’s one thing to die of an illness. It’s another to not be surrounded and in contact with those you love. I have a definitive distrust of doctors and hospitals now because they have forgotten their compassion.

How about we keep the police and defund the CDC? They have done far more damage.

So all these wonderful masks LOL will protect us from 20 or less nanometer in diameter that virus's measure out to, when even the N95 will only protect the wearer against bacteria with is approximately 2 micrometer range. (nanometer =1 billionth of meter versus micron = 1 millionth of a meter) This is like having a screen door on a submarine for protection as an absurd example. The dangerous part of wearing masks is 1. rebreathing in bacteria that is naturally expelled by the lungs, 2. having a higher CO2 level in the blood and lower O2 levels and 3. getting more head-aches from all the CO2. Apparently these experts who make things up to control the population don't know science of virus's at even an elementary level.

I only wear a mask if I have to, mostly to get into stores that require it. At first I also wore gloves and wiped everything thing down with sanitizer. No more. I only wear gloves now to protect my hands when I’m working.
