NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday took a swipe at U.S. President Donald Trump for a staged photo holding a Bible in front of a church near the White House, a visit made possible after protesters were cleared with rubber bullets and tear gas.
Trump did not read any passages from the Bible after walking to St. John's Episcopal Church for the photo on Monday night.

I haven’t had much time to reflect on the looting and riots that swept mostly (but not exclusively) large Democrat cities. It was a wilding on a scale we’ve never seen. It was a bloodletting and release of criminal fury. We should be clear what is happening. It is not protest over the death of George Floyd. That is the spark, but not the fire. A 13-year-old boy accused of being involved in the murder of Tessa Majors pleaded guilty to robbery Wednesday. The teen admitted handing over knife used to kill the Barnard College student at a hearing in the Manhattan Family Court, The New York Daily News reports. Majors, 18, was fatally stabbed during a robbery in Morningside Park near the Barnard campus in upper Manhattan in December last year. Prosecutors had said that Rashaun Weaver, 14, stabbed Majors and that Luchiano Lewis, 14, prevented her from escaping as she called for help. They both pleaded not guilty to murder in February.

After nearly four years, we’ve arrived at the end game, the final, violent cry of the “resistance” as it continues to try to overturn the results of the 2016 election and tip the United States of America irreversibly toward anarchy and socialism.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Tuesday announced 24 hours of “largely peaceful” demonstrations in Florida and “no significant law enforcement or civilian injuries or deaths” following his decision to deploy the state’s National Guard to help maintain peace and restore law and order.
DeSantis reported “no significant civilian or law enforcement injuries and no widespread property damage” as part of a greater statement, thanking local officials, the Florida National Guard, and the Florida Highway Patrol for all of their work in calming civil unrest.
“Additionally, FDLE has not received reports of widespread property damage, commercial or residential,” DeSantis’s press release read:

On Monday night in Fairfield, California, looters found a new and outrageous way to break in and loot a store: they rammed a forklift truck through the entrance of a Best Buy at the Solano Town Center. Police stated the vandals were not local, that construction work on the mall property was ongoing and the vandals used that equipment. Lt. Jausiah Jacobsen, who said one arrest had been made, stated, “We were able to get a lot of license plates and log those and it’s clear to us that these were all people who came from outside of town to take advantage of Fairfield,” as ABC7 News reported.

A looter who allegedly broke into a Philadelphia gun store overnight was pronounced dead at the scene after the store owner shot him in the head just after 4 a.m.
Fox 5 reports a “crew of looters reportedly attempted to break in,” but the store owner was ready for them. 6 ABC reports the owner had his business, the Firing Line Gun Range and Gun Store, staked out because of another attempted burglary and he was watching surveillance cameras when he saw “three or four men use wire cutters to break through the gate and enter the store.”

Maine Democrat Gov. Janet Mills reversed her decision last week to allow restaurants in the state’s southern counties to reopen June 1, suggesting to owners they sell already purchased perishable foods to prisons at the government contract rate.
Just days before restaurants in Cumberland, York, and Androscoggin Counties were slated to reopen to allow for indoor dining with health and safety measures in place, the governor reversed course, claiming an uptick in COVID-19 cases in the region.
“A date for the reopening of dine-in services in these counties is yet to be determined,” the Mills administration said.

I was a little girl, but the events of 1968, especially in Chicago at the Democrat National Convention, impressed me. I remember images of helmeted police officers facing off against rioters. He was wrong. As similar scenes play out across America today, with rioters shooting police officers, innocent bystanders dying, and businesses being destroyed, the news media has adopted a different attitude.
ST. LOUIS — A retired St. Louis police captain killed by people who broke into a pawn shop after protests turned violent was a gregarious and outspoken leader who mentored youths and insisted on strict ethical conduct among his employees, a longtime colleague said Tuesday.
David Dorn, 77, was found dead on the sidewalk in front of Lee’s Pawn & Jewelry about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. No arrests have been made.
The shooting and theft apparently was posted on Facebook Live, but the video has since been taken down.

Police sirens wailed up and down 8th Avenue in Manhattan, and New York Police Department helicopters hovered overhead Monday night. The rioters, according to my social media feeds, were several blocks away from my home, pillaging a clothing outlet. A family member sent me a photo he took, from his window, of a jewelry store being ransacked, with no cops in sight.
New York City, like so many others across the country, is under siege.
The police here are not in control of the streets. Anyone can turn on the television or open up social media and see rioters chanting profanely, destroying public and private property, or even attacking women shop owners.

Unions may have gotten a lot more than they bargained for when the West Virginia Supreme Court ruled against them in April.
This spring, the West Virginia high court upheld the state’s right-to-work law. That part of the ruling was no surprise, as courts for over 70 years have said right-to-work laws are constitutional.
Perhaps the more significant part of the ruling, which garnered less attention, is that the court essentially said the entire country should be right-to-work.
Right-to-work simply means that a union cannot get a worker fired for not paying the union. A right-to-work law gives workers the freedom to support a union if they are doing a good job,

The longtime incumbent known for his controversial remarks lost Tuesday’s primary race to state Sen. Randy Feenstra, according to a local NBC affiliate.
King was shunned by many on both sides of the aisle over the course of last year for his “Western civilization” comments, with the House stripping him of committee assignments and President Trump barring him from a trip on Air Force One.
King’s 17-year Congressional career has been defined by his strong anti-immigration stance, though Feenstra was able to vanquish him in the state’s 4th Congressional District by framing King as an ineffective lawmaker
The Trump administration is removing a tool some Democratic states have used to block construction of new fossil fuel infrastructure, such as oil and gas pipelines. In recent years climate change activists encouraged states and tribes to exercise their power under section 401 of the Clean Water Act. It gives local authorities the right to review new projects to make sure they don't harm local water. "So it essentially gives states veto power over federal decisions," Daniel Estrin, an attorney (snip). Typically the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approves these projects, but activists say the agency has become a "rubber stamp" for fossil fuel industries.
Federal officials say they’ve arrested a Galesburg, Illinois, man whom they say traveled from his home to both Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Chicago, Illinois, to hand out explosives and incite riots.
Matthew Rupert was arrested by the Chicago Police Department on Sunday after breaking the city’s curfew. and when police searched his car, they found evidence of explosives and other incendiary devices. An eventual search of his Facebook page yielded a number of videos, which Rupert had set to “public,” showing Rupert encouraging rioters to burn buildings and attack police officers, according to CBS News Chicago.
