NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday took a swipe at U.S. President Donald Trump for a staged photo holding a Bible in front of a church near the White House, a visit made possible after protesters were cleared with rubber bullets and tear gas.
Trump did not read any passages from the Bible after walking to St. John's Episcopal Church for the photo on Monday night.
"The president held up the Bible the other day in Washington, D.C. Here in New York we actually read the Bible," Cuomo told a briefing…

I haven’t had much time to reflect on the looting and riots that swept mostly (but not exclusively) large Democrat cities. It was a wilding on a scale we’ve never seen. It was a bloodletting and release of criminal fury. We should be clear what is happening. It is not protest over the death of George Floyd. That is the spark, but not the fire. This has been a long time coming. At least a generation, maybe two. The left methodically has taken control of key institutions to implement an anti-American, anti-Capitalist agenda.

Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer has become a laughingstock for imposing draconian lockdown restrictions on her constituents while her own family violates them. Her husband was caught red-handed demanding special treatment because of his wife’s office in violating her restrictions on boating and use of vacation houses, something she first lied about and then tried to pass off as a joke.
But yesterday, she topped herself and uttered a phrase that should live on as her emblem of indifference to the suffering of those whom she oppresses. Like the final generation French aristocrats before the revolution, she causally revealed her cluelessness of the misery of those she oppresses.

Nestride Yumga is an American citizen who originally comes from Africa. She’s also an extraordinarily brave woman. On Sunday, after one of the worst nights of rioting in modern American history, Yumga, who lives in Washington, D.C., decided to see the protests/riots for herself.
Contrary to what we’ve been told to expect from a black woman, though, Yumga did not go to support the protest. Instead, she wanted the Black Lives Matter crowd to know that she thinks they’re all a bunch of phonies and hypocrites. As Yumga sees it, they don’t care at all about black lives because they ignore the way blacks routinely mow each other down in Chicago.

Baltimore, Maryland – The streets of Baltimore bled with rage just five years ago after the death of a young black man, Freddie Gray, in the back of a police vehicle. Now, as violent rioting and looting own the night in several cities across the nation, Baltimore emerged as the beacon of peaceful protesting.
As the afternoon sky turned to dusk on Monday, hundreds of protesters converged near the Baltimore Convention Center to march through the city with calls for justice for George Floyd, who was brutally killed by a police officer last week in Minneapolis. The protest, organized by young,

Meghan Markle has complained that Kate Middleton 'snaps her fingers' and is quickly backed by the Palace after a negative story, yet when she was crucified by the media she received no support, sources have told DailyMail.com. 'Meghan said Kensington Palace never once came to her defense when she was being shredded by the media. Now Kate gets a bit of negative press, and the Palace comes out in less than 24 hours to rebuke the claims made against her,' a friend said.

Dozens of National Guardsmen and federal police officers stood watch on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial Tuesday evening, opposite a large group of protesters.
The soldiers and airmen stood facing the protesters while wearing masks, helmets, and personal protective equipment.
President Donald Trump activated all members of the D.C. National Guard to respond to the civil unrest in the nation’s capital — adding hundreds more Guardsmen to the mission to protect human life and property.
Rioters defaced Lincoln Memorial on Sunday as the capital city descended into chaos. They also looted stores and burned buildings including historic St. John’s Church located a block away from the White House.

Government officials should investigate the treatment of protesters who gathered near the White House on Monday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said Tuesday.
“Secretary [of Defense Mark] Esper, General [Mark] Milley should not allow the U.S. military to come within a country mile of these ugly stunts,” he stated in remarks given from the Senate floor, according to the Hill.
“The administration is using the military as a tool to intimidate American citizens and the Department of Defense IG must immediately launch an investigation into how the U.S military was used and whether it was consistent with the laws of our nation,” he continued.

After nearly four years, we’ve arrived at the end game, the final, violent cry of the “resistance” as it continues to try to overturn the results of the 2016 election and tip the United States of America irreversibly toward anarchy and socialism.
Aided and abetted by the mainstream media and a surprisingly large number of Democrat politicians, the current unrest sweeping the country is being presented as “dissent” and “protest” but is in fact insurrection. It’s time to put it down, hard.
Although the media would have you believe otherwise, we’ve been down this road as a nation before, and dealt with insurrection decisively.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Tuesday announced 24 hours of “largely peaceful” demonstrations in Florida and “no significant law enforcement or civilian injuries or deaths” following his decision to deploy the state’s National Guard to help maintain peace and restore law and order.
DeSantis reported “no significant civilian or law enforcement injuries and no widespread property damage” as part of a greater statement, thanking local officials, the Florida National Guard, and the Florida Highway Patrol for all of their work in calming civil unrest.
“Additionally, FDLE has not received reports of widespread property damage, commercial or residential,” DeSantis’s press release read:

On Monday night in Fairfield, California, looters found a new and outrageous way to break in and loot a store: they rammed a forklift truck through the entrance of a Best Buy at the Solano Town Center. Police stated the vandals were not local, that construction work on the mall property was ongoing and the vandals used that equipment. Lt. Jausiah Jacobsen, who said one arrest had been made, stated, “We were able to get a lot of license plates and log those and it’s clear to us that these were all people who came from outside of town to take advantage of Fairfield,” as ABC7 News reported.

President Donald Trump says he may call out the military to quell riots if the states refuse to do their duty to protect their citizens. But can he even do that? His harshest critics say no, but they’re very wrong.
The riots and looting that have taken place across the country are anything but “peaceful.” And while all of us agree peaceful demonstrations are acceptable, even if we don’t agree with them, the recent orgy of violence has been driven by far-left anarchists and others bent on taking down a democratically elected government.

Joe Biden’s sheltering-in-place has not gone well. His virtual town halls and interviews from his basement in Delaware have been a catalog of his mental decline. As with many people suffering from advancing dementia, their normal filter, that instinctive judgment that governs us all in a civil society, is slowly erased and their true character is revealed. With Slow Joe, this process, the unveiling of his disagreeable side, is not a pretty picture. This is not a man suited to leading anything, let alone a country and certainly not the U.S. Biden’s cruel side has always been evident for those paying attention.

For the past four months, Americans have endured a constant barrage of news and fear porn about the Wuhan coronavirus. The country has been locked down as tightly as Anthony Weiner’s infamous laptop computer, now finally starting to slowly reopen.
We have heard about ventilators and ICU beds, social distancing and masks, death counts and vaccines, all to the point of over-saturation. Fox News ran a nearly constant death count side bar and CNN blamed the virus, the resulting economic shutdown, and every other bit of trouble in the world on their least favorite president ever.

Americans shattered monthly sales records for firearms as the coronavirus raged across the U.S. In March, the FBI logged around 3.7 million background checks, eclipsing the previous record set in December 2015. With at least 2.5 million checks conducted for new firearm sales, the figures represent a monthly increase of about 85 percent over March 2019. And now, with protests ravaging cities across the country over the police killing of George Floyd, the month of May set another record with nearly 3.1 million background checks. These sales contribute to a record 15 million checks recorded since January 1, 2020.

I was a little girl, but the events of 1968, especially in Chicago at the Democrat National Convention, impressed me. I remember images of helmeted police officers facing off against rioters. I also remember generally from that year how the protesters referred to the police as “pigs,” so we kids always tried to offset that by waving at the police whenever they drove by.
Back then, you had the leftist protesters on one side, and the media and the political class on the other side, aligned with the forces of law and order. This year, things are very different. The violent protesters (whether BLM, Antifa, Chauvinistas, Anarchists, or opportunists)

The expression that “truth is the first casualty in (or of) war” traces back to Aeschylus, but became popular in the early 20th century. As the past few days' riots show, that expression is on steroids now, with many of the worst lies coming directly from the media. This post catalogs some of the lies that swirled around, along with the facts that the media couldn’t be bothered to check lest they interfere with the narrative.
The most consequential lies, as always, are about President Trump. Yesterday, holding his mother’s Bible, Trump walked out of the White House, crossed through Lafayette Park, and headed to St. John’s church,

For years, Mexicans have sent billions of U.S. dollars to their families back home. It is a social safety net in small towns. In fact, I recall a joke that two Mexican ladies were walking down the street and noticed that their neighbor had new windows. And then one said to the other that her son lived in "el norte".
According to a Fox report, remittances to Mexico were U.S. $36 billion in 2019. In simple terms, that's about 3% of their U.S. $1 trillion GDP. For the sake of comparison, Mexico receives about U.S. $25 billion from tourism

As Jews were beaten and killed in the 1991 Crown Heights riots, New York Times columnist and erstwhile executive editor A.M. Rosenthal penned a thundering denunciation of the violence and its cheerleaders.
"Using grievances real or imagined as an excuse for violence will not be tolerated—not by black society or white, not by the press, not by City Hall, not now, not ever," Rosenthal wrote.
He was wrong. As similar scenes play out across America today, with rioters shooting police officers, innocent bystanders dying, and businesses being destroyed, the news media has adopted a different attitude.

Police sirens wailed up and down 8th Avenue in Manhattan, and New York Police Department helicopters hovered overhead Monday night. The rioters, according to my social media feeds, were several blocks away from my home, pillaging a clothing outlet. A family member sent me a photo he took, from his window, of a jewelry store being ransacked, with no cops in sight.
New York City, like so many others across the country, is under siege.
The police here are not in control of the streets. Anyone can turn on the television or open up social media and see rioters chanting profanely, destroying public and private property, or even attacking women shop owners.

There is a lot we don’t yet know about the interaction between Derek Chauvin and George Floyd — National Review’s Andy McCarthy has done yeoman’s work in sifting through the police report and highlighting some of the remaining uncertainties. We do have that video, though. And what that video depicts — the way that Floyd writhes in pain and gasps for his late mother with his final breaths — is enough to stir even the most callous viewer to outrage.
And stir it has — the anger has been nearly universal. The president, in his way, decried the killing. Conservative and liberal commentators alike

Unions may have gotten a lot more than they bargained for when the West Virginia Supreme Court ruled against them in April.
This spring, the West Virginia high court upheld the state’s right-to-work law. That part of the ruling was no surprise, as courts for over 70 years have said right-to-work laws are constitutional.
Perhaps the more significant part of the ruling, which garnered less attention, is that the court essentially said the entire country should be right-to-work.
Right-to-work simply means that a union cannot get a worker fired for not paying the union. A right-to-work law gives workers the freedom to support a union if they are doing a good job,

NEW YORK — The nation’s unrest has made for an unprecedented nightly action show on television, with control rooms that switch quickly between cars ablaze, police officers advancing on demonstrators and ransacked stores in cities across the country.

The Trump administration is removing a tool some Democratic states have used to block construction of new fossil fuel infrastructure, such as oil and gas pipelines. In recent years climate change activists encouraged states and tribes to exercise their power under section 401 of the Clean Water Act. It gives local authorities the right to review new projects to make sure they don't harm local water. "So it essentially gives states veto power over federal decisions," Daniel Estrin, an attorney (snip). Typically the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approves these projects, but activists say the agency has become a "rubber stamp" for fossil fuel industries.
