There is one big… wait, make that yuuge winner in the sacking of major American cities that has been underway since mobs started with looting Target in Minneapolis and spread all the way to Macy’s Herald Square flagship in Manhattan and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Scott Adams took to Twitter to spell it out: I did not appreciate how profitable fake news could be for Jeff Bezos. If the Washington Post can support the protestors long enough, there will be no retail store competition for Amazon. Almost there. I’d give it a week.

The ''stay home'' orders helped online business. The riots help online business. Both hurt small, brick and mortar business. Maybe it's time to break up the monopoly of Amazon, as has been done to other monopolies in the past.

Nothing better reveals the depth of the madness afoot in the land than the demands to defund or completely abolish the police. It’s bad enough for airhead celebrities, something worse for the formerly prestigious New York Times, and downright alarming for office holders, state and federal to indulge the fantasy that thin blue line is all the separates us from anarchy, mob rule, and ultimately a dictatorship spawned by the need to restore order. (snip) there is a real-life experiment in complete withdrawal of police protection that occurred a century ago that is available to learn from. The Boston Police Strike that began September 9, 1919

One of the more disturbing images to emerge in the past few days has been of police officers and National Guardsman kneeling – effectively bowing down – before the mob. These men and women who represent the forces of law and order claim that they are kneeling in solidarity, but what they're doing looks remarkably like surrender. The reason they are doing so is almost certainly because they believe the Big Lie that leftists are selling -- namely, that law enforcement is causing a black “genocide.” While it's true that there is black genocide in America, it’s not coming from law enforcement. It’s coming straight from Planned Parenthood

Gretchen Whitmer has her

Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer has become a laughingstock for imposing draconian lockdown restrictions on her constituents while her own family violates them. Her husband was caught red-handed demanding special treatment because of his wife’s office in violating her restrictions on boating and use of vacation houses, something she first lied about and then tried to pass off as a joke. But yesterday, she topped herself and uttered a phrase that should live on as her emblem of indifference to the suffering of those whom she oppresses. Like the final generation French aristocrats before the revolution, she causally revealed her cluelessness of the misery of those she oppresses.

Nestride Yumga is an American citizen who originally comes from Africa. She’s also an extraordinarily brave woman. On Sunday, after one of the worst nights of rioting in modern American history, Yumga, who lives in Washington, D.C., decided to see the protests/riots for herself. Contrary to what we’ve been told to expect from a black woman, though, Yumga did not go to support the protest. Instead, she wanted the Black Lives Matter crowd to know that she thinks they’re all a bunch of phonies and hypocrites. As Yumga sees it, they don’t care at all about black lives because they ignore the way blacks routinely mow each other down in Chicago.

It was highly unusual for the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to order Judge Emmett Sullivan to explain his refusal to grant General Michael Flynn’s motion to dismiss. That made it easy to miss that it also allowed the Department of Justice the right to file a brief supporting its petition. Sullivan filed his pathetic and dishonest brief on Monday. The DOJ’s brief, however, is filled with devastating facts and entirely on-point legal authority. What makes it even more compelling is its front page, which is weighted with the names of big guns. The DOJ is taking this matter very seriously.

General Michael Flynn filed a Petition for Writ of Mandate requesting that the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit order Judge Emmett Sullivan to dismiss Flynn’s case, in the face of Sullivan's refusal to do so. (snip) Sullivan apparently felt he was not up to the task of explaining his own legal analysis, so he hired one of Washington’s fixers – Beth Wilkinson. He should have saved his money. Wilkinson’s brief (which you can read here) is a joke. Additionally, Wilkinson has abandoned any pretense that Sullivan is impartial. This is an attack brief against Flynn.

It could be spring and the reappearance of leaves on bare trees and flowers blooming, but I think it’s really because I do not watch network news or read the New York Times, The Washington Report or The Drudge Report. I live in New York City, which has been christened pandemic ground zero, but I’m still alive even though I am at high risk of dying from Covid 19. What I do watch on Sundays is Mass from my local parish’s Facebook page, and a recent homily by my parish priest was what stirred this feeling of hope.

The Republic is in the greatest peril since the Civil War. A grand coalition of its enemies is taking advantage of the weakness and frustration created by the lockdown of the economy and ordinary life, the protests triggered by video of lethal barbaric cruelty of a then-police officer, and the economic desperation and frustration that has multiplied over a quarter century of de-industrialization and widening class divisions as globalization has transformed our economy. On Sunday, President Trump took aim at Antifa, which apparently has driven the violent side of the protests ripping through America's Democrat-run cities. With full-throated support from Attorney General Barr, Trump is designating Antifa as a terrorist organization. This is an extremely important announcement because Antifa is more than just a terrorist group. It is, in fact, the paramilitary arm of the Democrat Party. (snip)Many people believe that George Soros is funding Antifa and pulling its strings. While he may be funding the organization, its radical ties put it squarely within the new Democrat party

The acorn, as the saying goes, does not fall far from the tree. Daughters of two of riot-torn Minnesota’s highest profile office holders have been on Twitter offering encouragement and support to the forces rampaging there. Yaacov Apelbaum did screen grabs of tweets from Hope Walz, daughter of Democrat Governor Tim Walz, whose fecklessness allowed rioters to dominate law enforcement forces for days before finally calling up what appears to be adequate National Guard support. Hope Walz has subsequently “protected” her Twitter feed, so you and I cannot see it. But here are the tweets

Do you foresee a time when Republicans develop amnesia about having been so solicitous of Donald Trump? Once you understand the larger objectives, everything becomes a sequence of predictable events. The term “community policing” has been used for several years by groups advocating for radical changes to law enforcement; however, behind the innocuous phrase is really a much more serious agenda. If each community can determine the enforcement of law, then essentially all communities can eliminate the underlying law itself. Remove local enforcement of law and the local community can independently assemble a social structure separate from all other binding contracts that frame a larger societal compact. The open letter claims that in 2017, $194 billion was spent on the police by America’s various governments even as police have “continued profiling, harassment, terror and killing of Black communities. Black communities are living in persistent fear of being killed by state authorities like police, immigration agents, or even white vigilantes who are emboldened by state actors.

Thousands of protesters have marched on the home of Mayor Bill de Blasio calling for him to resign. It was actually even larger than that would appear, it reportedly stretched for 19 blocks. They reached the home and demanded he go.It’s true, everyone of every stripe hates de Blasio. Some wags joked the thousands of protesters were just there to pick up Chiara de Blasio, who had been arrested during a protest a couple of nights ago. Folks on the left are angry about him imposing a curfew, folks on the right and in the center see the city dissolving into chaos, and de Blasio doing nothing.

Police sirens wailed up and down 8th Avenue in Manhattan, and New York Police Department helicopters hovered overhead Monday night. The rioters, according to my social media feeds, were several blocks away from my home, pillaging a clothing outlet. The police here are not in control of the streets.
