Americans shattered monthly sales records for firearms as the coronavirus raged across the U.S. In March, the FBI logged around 3.7 million background checks, eclipsing the previous record set in December 2015. With at least 2.5 million checks conducted for new firearm sales, the figures represent a monthly increase of about 85 percent over March 2019. And now, with protests ravaging cities across the country over the police killing of George Floyd, the month of May set another record with nearly 3.1 million background checks. These sales contribute to a record 15 million checks recorded since January 1, 2020.
Anti-gun advocates and left-leaning lawmakers are also taking the opportunity

Wanting to buy some ammo online, but I'm wondering what kind of wait time I'd be dealing with.

My local gun store is well stocked, and doing a brisk business. Small carry pieces and AR style rifles seem to be selling best, and ammo is flying off the shelves.

I don't know if I like the gun kit thing. To me, it just looks like a way to get around a background check. Don't necessarily care for the idea of people that can't pass the background check purchasing firearms.
From what I can tell ammunition is available on line. Also, have not had a problem acquiring reloading components at all except for powder.

The demoncrats are whipping up lawlessness, forcing the police to back off even stand down leaving the armed citizen to defend themselves against the mob. Next they'll blame us for the carnage and call for our disarmament. Just watch. Oh but while you do remember "nobody want's to take your guns away."

Not everyone is skilled enough for finishing an 80% receiver. My bet is that well under half of those sold wind up as a functional gun, people have a lot better imagination and dream capability than they do actual shop skills in many cases. I know some skilled folks, with full machine shops, including CNC in some cases, who could build the whole gun from scratch, if they so chose.
That said, I think that the political support for gun control will be dropping pretty dramatically after recent events where a LOT of people got TWO wake up calls to the fundamental truth..."You have exactly as much security as you brought with you." The corollary is "When seconds count in a life or death situation, the police are only 20 minutes away."

#1, lots of stuff is sold out. A few weeks ago, I was looking for some buckshot for a friend who had failed to stock up. Of 25 SKUs on one major online retailer's site, ALL were "out of stock, no backorder". This may change from week to week, so you'll have to check. That same guy wanted to get some extra AR magazines back in April. Delivery took a month, but he did get them.
I just idly did a search on "tactical shotgun" on Gunbroker yesterday. There were extremely few listings, mostly for unknown brand foreign shotguns with no known reputation for reliability. Almost zero of the normal Mossberg 590s, Rem 870s and various Benelli semi-autos. Those are pretty much all gone from the pipeline by now. I imagine that even ARs are probably in short supply, but I haven't checked that recently.

#3, do you REALLY think that criminals are stopped from getting guns by background checks? That is seriously naive. Studies have shown for many decades that criminals purchase stolen guns or have others purchase them for them. Gun laws only affect the law abiding.

Good luck with democrat gun control if they can't or won't even control their own streets.
If people had started gun purchases and practice at the proper time, like when Barack Obama was elected, there would be no problem having enough weapons and ammo now. Hint - self defense is more important than toilet paper.

None of that proposed legislation thrown in the Congressional hopper by leftist and liberal Democrats will pass and become law as long as President Trump is in office. For the last week or so we have come to see the real problems in the country and those problems do not have have anything to do with law abiding citizens purchasing and retaining firearms to protect themselves and their families. The last week has also shown that the local police have enough problems trying to protect themselves and cope with the rioting, looting, and stealing that is perpetrated during civil unrest, and are thus unable to legitimately protect the general public from being assaulted and murdered by criminals. In the last resort it will be you who will have to protect yourself, your family members, and your property or just lay down and die.

If the government can prove someone is too dangerous to be allowed access to weapons why is that person not incarcerated? If you think that firearms are only available at gun stores you lack contact with the real world. Firearms are available at the nearest street corner where drugs are sold. When I lived in New Jersey, with its super strict gun control, firearms were available a couple blocks from the police station, only requirement was cash.
