RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced Wednesday that he was declaring a state of emergency over threats of “armed militia groups storming our Capitol” ahead of a gun-rights rally next week. Northam's emergency order will ban weapons of all kinds, including firearms, from the Capitol grounds starting Friday and continuing through Tuesday. He said the order was necessary to protect public safety because of potential violence from out-of-state groups at a gun-rights rally scheduled for Monday. “Let me be clear. These are considered credible, serious threats by our law enforcement agencies,” Northam said at a Capitol news conference. He added that some of the rhetoric used by groups

Legislation to prevent students born male from competing on female sports teams drew passionate testimony Tuesday, with supporters defending it as a way to ensure fairness and opponents decrying it as a violation of state anti-discrimination law. Victoria Galla of Chesterfield told the House Education Committee she moved from Massachusetts and New York City to get away from the gender-identity politics she believes are destroying the lives of confused young people. Following House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s signing of the articles of impeachment on Wednesday, the Senate is expected to begin their impeachment trial. White House officials are bracing for a “quick” trial in the Senate and said they don’t expect new witness testimonies. Top administration officials believe President Trump is overwhelmingly winning in the impeachment case. They also expect the trial to last no more than two weeks. White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said the president is not worried about the trial and believes Democrats’ case for impeachment is blatantly political. “The whole process has been proven, to this point, to be a sham and illegitimate.

BOSTON — Alex Cora has already been identified as a ringleader in an illegal system of sign stealing when he was with the Houston Astros.
The Red Sox didn't wait to see what punishment Major League Baseball might give him for possibly bringing a similar scheme with him to Boston.
Cora was fired by the team he led to the 2018 World Series title on Tuesday night, one day after baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said he was "an active participant" in the Astros' cheating when he was a bench coach in Houston.

A Michigan senator is accused of humiliating a female journalist in the state’s chambers by telling her a group of high school boys “could have a lot of fun” with her, according to the reporter. Michigan Advance reporter Allison Donahue claimed the comments by Sen. Peter Lucido, the state’s senate majority whip, left her “objectified and humiliated” as she tried to interview him. Instead of answering the 22-year-old’s questions, the politician pointed to a group of about 30 boys visiting from his all-boys alma mater, De La Salle Collegiate, Donahue wrote in a first-person exposé. “You should hang around!

Travelers on the Mexico City subway system often blame authorities for broken-down escalators at subway stops, but Metro officials have another explanation: vast amounts of pee. Somehow, urine is penetrating and corroding the drive wheels and mechanisms of the escalators that carry riders up from underground stations. In a list published on Tuesday, the Metro system listed “corrosion due to urine” as one of the top five causes of escalator breakdowns. Fermín Ramírez, the system’s assistant manager for rails and facilities, said riders appear to be urinating on escalators at off-peak hours and lightly used stations, “even though it seems hard to believe”.

After a months-long legal battle with the International Boundary and Water Commission, a “United Nations-type” globalist agency which has deliberately facilitated the illegal entry of hordes of foreign nationals to illegally enter the United States, a federal judge cleared the way for Fisher Industries and We Build The Wall to continue building a section of President Donald Trump’s Mexico border wall. A federal judge ordered a halt Wednesday to the Trump administration’s plan to give states and localities a veto over refugees being sent into their territory, saying the law doesn’t allow them a say. The ruling is a major victory for immigrant rights groups, who had feared some communities would shut their doors thanks to President Trump’s executive order last year establishing the veto policy. Judge Peter J. Messitte, an appointee of President Clinton to the U.S. District Court in Maryland, issued an injunction stopping the policy just days before it was to kick in. Pedophile Jeffrey Epstein kept a harem of abused and trafficked girls as young as 11 that was so large he needed a computer system to keep track of them, according to a new lawsuit against his estate, reports said Wednesday. Dogs don’t bark because they’re brave, they bark because they’re scared. The same can be said for the current House Speaker. Afraid of a revolt among the even more left wing of her party, afraid of a president her party looks increasingly unlikely to defeat in November, afraid of domestic and international American success via an approach that does not comport with her more liberal views and achieved without her consent, Speaker Pelosi has entered the twilight of her political career barking at all she fears. Unlike House Democrats, who used unfair rules to prevent their Republican colleagues from having any say in the chamber’s impeachment proceedings last year, Senate Republicans appear intent on ensuring their colleagues are granted a say.
And so on Tuesday, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz reportedly pitched the idea of “witness reciprocity,” an innovative solution that calls for each side being allowed to call an equal number of witnesses to testify in President Donald Trump’s upcoming trial.
If Senate Democrats were to choose to call former Trump administration National Security Adviser John Bolton, for instance, Republicans would, in turn, be allowed to call, say, former Vice President Joe Biden or his son Hunter.

A formal blessing for the Space Force "official" Bible resulted in a squeal of outrage from a man who has dedicated his life to making sure that America's troops, who are mostly Christian, have no easy access to God.
When the Founding Fathers drafted the Constitution, 85% of the American population did not belong to the Church of England. Were they in England, they would have had to pay to support the Anglican church and would have been barred from universities or government employment. The National Security Agency (NSA) is starting the year off on the right foot by alerting Microsoft to a flaw in its Windows 10 operating system, instead of secretly weaponizing it.
The intelligence agency discovered 'an extraordinarily serious security vulnerability' that could spoof the digital signature of software that could trick a PC into letting malware in that is posing as a legitimate application.
The bug was uncovered in NSA's own research and by disclosing this information to the tech giant, the agency believes it is putting 'computer security ahead' of its own agenda.

It's not just President Trump's tweets in Farsi.
Complementing the president's rhetorical support for Iranian protesters, the U.S. government is engaged in less public programs to help Iranian protesters now taking to the streets. They provide the positive counterpoint to Trump's excesses, such as his recent threat to Iranian cultural sites.
The critical point here is that this is about giving Iranians the tools to campaign for their own freedom and future, rather than interfering with Iranian domestic politics or instigating protests. The U.S. programs are not a 1953 coup part deux, but a provision to help those already on the streets struggle for their freedom.

Yesterday, Michael Flynn’s attorney, Sidney Powell, filed a Motion to Withdraw his Guilty Plea, arguing the government breached its obligations under the plea agreement the retired general had entered with the special counsel’s office in late 2017. Prosecutors had promised in that plea agreement to “file a departure motion pursuant to Section 5K1.1 of the Sentencing Guidelines” if Flynn provided substantial assistance to the government.
The government kept that pledge—until it didn’t.
On December 4, 2018, prosecutors working for the special counsel’s office filed a Memorandum in Aid of Sentencing, stating that the government has moved for a downward departure pursuant to Section 5K1.1, to reflect Flynn’s “substantial assistance to the government.”

Sometime last fall, a security contractor based in Asia took a call that he found curious. The man on the other end of the line, a longtime acquaintance and, like him, an expert in protecting VIPs and valuable cargoes in challenging environments, was looking to hire for a job in Japan. He offered few specifics. The assignment would involve escorting someone out of the country, he said. It would pay well. And he was looking for operatives with military or police experience and, ideally, fair-skinned East Asian faces—the kind that wouldn’t stand out in Tokyo.
The contractor wanted to know more. Who would the operatives be protecting?

Still, California Senate Bill 50, winding its way through the state legislature again this month, could generate tens of thousands of new jobs and billions of dollars of new investment, reshaping the geography of the biggest state and solving a large chunk of the cost-of-living crisis

We observe today not a victory of party but a celebration of socialism — symbolizing an end as well as a beginning — signifying a decline as well as change. For I have affirmed before you and any God that may exist the same words our forebears prescribed nearly two and a half centuries ago.
Our philosophy is very different now. For capitalism created all forms of human poverty and gave us the power to abolish all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are now but nightmares for a woke generation

An Iowa field organizer for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign believes he knows what the Vermont socialist is thinking and has been willing to share it. The staffer’s taste for violence, and his eagerness to punish those who’d rather not be forced into the commune, are almost exactly as we would have expected.
Apparently believing that he was speaking to a friendly journalist from the mainstream media over the course of several months, Kyle Jurek, described by Sanders’ Iowa field director as a “top-tier organizer,” went off on a tirade that sounded like Politburo talking points.

It’s fascinating to watch some of the smarter Democrats drag themselves out of their own Trump hatred long enough to realize that their party is in trouble at a very fundamental level. (snip) the media are so excessively self-involved that they no longer know how to communicate information and ideas to the voters media types want to reach most: people who are not politically engaged on a day-to-day basis but must turn out to vote on November 3 if the Democrat candidate is to win.

We were four minutes in, somewhere on the outskirts of Mideast foreign policy, when the boredom began to take hold. ‘They couldn’t find some of Iowa’s world-renowned meth to spice this stage up at bit’, I muttered, as I cracked open another beer and wondered who I crossed at The Spectator that I’m asked to watch these damn Democrat debates each month.
Just 19 days before the Iowa caucuses, we finally reached the inevitable: Andrew Yang getting the boot, as the white savior party shed the last of its racial minority aspirants, having decided that none was qualified to take the helm this cycle. Better luck in 2024, blacks.

In Tuesday night's Democratic debate, Joe Biden claimed a vast array of foreign policy accomplishments in an attempt to make the case that his foreign policy experience made him the best prepared candidate to be commander in chief. But all he did was remind viewers that he has an extensive history of getting it wrong.
Don't just take it from us. In his 2014 memoir, Duty, former Defense Secretary Robert Gates famously shared his view that Joe Biden, then the vice president and previously chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, had been wrong about “nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn moved Tuesday to withdraw his guilty plea for lying to the FBI in the Russia probe, citing "bad faith" by the government.
The court filing came just days after the Justice Department reversed course to recommend up to six months of prison time in his case, alleging he was not fully cooperating or accepting responsibility for his actions.
But, in Tuesday’s court filing, his legal team said he moved to withdraw his plea "because of the government's bad faith, vindictiveness and breach of the plea agreement."

Police and social workers investigating child sex exploitation in Manchester knew children were suffering "the most profound abuse... but did not protect them", a report has found.
After a child's death in 2003, police identified at least 97 suspects, but "very few" faced justice, the independent review found.
The police operation was "prematurely closed down" after senior officers decided to "remove resources", it said.
Police said "authorities fell short".
Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) Operation Augusta was set up to tackle "the sexual exploitation throughout a wide area of a significant number of children in the care system by predominantly Asian men", the report said.

Seven years after Christian bakers refused to craft a cake to celebrate a same-sex wedding, the bakers are again in court, fighting to reverse a judgment that wiped out their life savings and drove them out of business. The U.S. Supreme Court sent their case back to the Oregon Court of Appeals (OCA) last year.
In January 2013, Christian bakers Aaron and Melissa Klein refused to bake a custom wedding cake to celebrate a lesbian ceremony. Two years later, the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) slapped a $135,000 fine on the Kleins, citing one of the women who requested the cake

It was very subtle. Few picked up on its deeper ramification, not in the Left media, not in the pro-Trump media. Maybe it took a combination rabbi–attorney to detect the nuance in three words spoken out of turn, a sinful hate. As Nancy Pelosi lost her standoff with Mitch McConnell, bowing to the collapse of support even within her own Democrat caucus, she finally bit the bullet and conceded that she would have to submit her impeachment articles without having won a single face-saving concession from her Senate opponents after a fortnight of dangling the articles in her hallucination that she was dangling candy

When the Democratic debate started Tuesday night, I was young, carefree, merry. Two hours later, when it ended, I was praying to the Almighty for a swift end to my suffering. I felt like I was 103 years old — or even older, like one of the early patriarchs in the Bible. All the life had been sucked out of my body.
This, the seventh debate in seven months, was the dullest major political event in years.
And there is no excuse for that, since there were only six candidates on stage and, therefore, a real possibility that the Democrats could explore their differences with one another and draw sharp divisions.

On January 1st, Colorado’s new “red flag” gun confiscation law went into effect. This hasn’t resulted in the immediate stampede of requests that some gun owners feared, but there have been a handful of them processed already. Three such requests, including two in Denver, were approved. A fourth request coming from the town of Limon in Lincoln County, however, was denied by the judge hearing the petition. This represents the first such denial of a red flag complaint against a gun owner in the state. (CBS Denver)

LOS ANGELES – Attorney Michael Avenatti was arrested by Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents Tuesday evening during a break in a disciplinary hearing in Los Angeles over allegations that the high-profile lawyer scammed a client out of $840,000.
The arrest occurred around 6 p.m. outside the State Bar Court, where the State Bar of California has initiated proceedings against him.
“I can confirm that he was arrested by federal agents," Avenatti's lawyer Dean Steward said. "I anticipate a bail hearing at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Magistrate's Court in Santa Ana. I haven't seen the details of the warrant, but should have it later this evening.“

The six Democratic presidential candidates who met for a televised debate in Iowa Tuesday night – the last before the state’s all-important caucuses Feb. 3 – focused most of their attacks on President Trump, with only a few fiery exchanges with each other.
With no clear front-runner, rising tensions and high stakes, the debate led many to expect it would be a truly memorable clash – one when the gloves would finally come off.
Instead, we saw a gathering of ladies and gentlemen who politely disagreed on a number of issues but who did not turn the debate into an angry brawl.

Former Vice President Joe Biden said during Tuesday night’s Democratic presidential debate that the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with Iran was working before voters elected President Donald Trump. “I was part of that deal to get the nuclear agreement with Iran, bringing together the rest of the world, including some of the folks who aren’t friendly to us, and it was working,” Biden said at the debate. “It was working. It was being held tightly.” WATCH: (Video) The former vice president was referring to the deal former President Barack Obama hashed out with Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to prevent future nuclear enrichment.

The Bloomberg campaign raised eyebrows Tuesday evening over a bizarre tweet featuring the face of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on a meatball.
Bloomberg may not have been participating in the Democratic debate in Iowa among the other top tier candidates, but his social media team was busy with an image of meatballs, although one of them certainly did not look like the others. "Test your political knowledge: SPOT THE MEATBALL THAT LOOKS LIKE MIKE," Team Bloomberg challenged Twitter users. (Tweet)

A California couple was arrested last week, for allegedly luring in thieves with an unguarded bicycle and then beating them with baseball bats when they tried to steal it.
Corey Cornutt, 25 and Savannah Grillot, 29, claimed they were robbed the first night they spent in their Visalia home after a burglar broke into their car. A few nights later, another burglar allegedly broke into their car again.
They both became hyper-vigilant and decided to take a proactive stance in defending their home, using the bike as bait. After beating on the perpetrators who came to steal it, Cornutt and Grillot would later post the videos to Youtube.

Democrats aimed their fire at Donald Trump Tuesday night - instead of each other - as they began the last debate before the first votes begin in the nomination process. Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden accused the president of lying about his reasons for taking out Iranian general Qassem Soleimani and the candidates were in agreement American troops need to come home from the Middle East. The first shots were fired at Trump, who was holding a campaign rally in Milwaukee as they were on stage. Sanders kicked off the attacks on the president when the candidates were asked about their own qualifications to be commander in chief.

During CNN’s coverage of Tuesday’s CNN Democratic presidential debate, CNN Political Commentator and former Obama adviser Van Jones praised the performance of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and stated that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) “stepped on” “a banana peel” over his comments about a woman winning the presidential race.Jones said, “This was Elizabeth Warren’s night. She needed to do something. And there was a banana peel sitting out there for Bernie to step on when it came to his comments about women. I think Bernie stepped on it and slid around. She knocked that moment out of the park.
