There are many cults in Washington, D.C. The Founding Church of Scientology sits between Dupont and Logan Circles. The earth-worshiping Defenders of Wildlife are just a few blocks south, their entrance guarded by imposing bronze grey wolves. One block north, the Human Rights Campaign dispatches starry-eyed adherents with clipboards to recruit followers, and to the east lie the child-harvesters. Two blocks away, the remnants of the Church of Her keep Hillary’s flame burning; and crowning them all: the mighty cult of SoulCycle. But today, the city has another faith working reporters into a fervor, and her name is Nancy Pelosi. Reporters have called her “basically invincible,” a “political grandmaster,”

My gut tells me that Ms. Piglosi is in for a VERY rude awakening when her Commie Caucus gets utterly thrashed in the coming election much like what just happened in the UK and for similar reasons. Hating your opposition does NOT constitute a constructive plan for the country. Can't wait to hear the wailing of the media when there is a complete and utter Republican blowout a la '72 or '84.

And pubbies, it should be all hands on deck to protect the Senate majority and to re-gain House control and show the Nan, Pencil Neck, and Humpty Dumpty the door...for good.

She is the ultimate scorned and arrogant woman in DC, absolutely obsessed with the fact Trump refuses to bow down to her and acknowledge how wonderful she is. At least in her own mind. She got a taste of being co president from 8 years of Obama, and she is hating giving that up. So we get the Pelosi farce that is destroying her own party, all because of her hatred of us and our president Trump. I am hoping that enough voters this year make the destruction of Carthage by the Romans look like a Thanksgiving family squabble by comparison.

I couldn't agree more. Nancy's brain is diseased and no longer functions as someone half her age. Bow out gracefully if you can.

A massive trove of "artifacts" has been shipped to Ripley's Believe It or Not! — a company known for its unusual objects. The artifacts arrived by ship in Miami on May 15, 2019, and were then sent to Ripley's Orlando headquarters. The shipment, which consisted of three containers holding 125 artifacts, weighed a total of 43,155 pounds (19,575 kilograms), although that weight may include material used to pack the artifacts. The shipment's bill of lading said that the artifacts was shipped from Colombo, Sri Lanka, but representatives for Ripley's say that the ship was passing through the port and that the artifacts were actually being sent

ARLINGTON -- Joe Biden said Wednesday that if he is the Democratic party’s presidential nominee he would commit the cash and resources needed to turn Texas blue. “The answer is yes,” Biden said when asked whether he would spend precious campaign cash on winning Texas. “I know one thing. It’s not going to be enough to beat Trump. You’ve got to win back the Senate. You got to go in and campaign in states that are in fact doable, gettable, even if I can’t win in that state.” For decades Texas has been described as an ATM for national candidates who siphon money

A scrupulous reader of the New York Times editorial board’s interview with Senator Elizabeth Warren is likely to come away from it with at least one nagging conclusion: She doesn’t think you’re very bright. On issue after issue, Warren showed unveiled contempt for both the intelligence of her interlocutors and the legitimate concerns of voters. Take, for example, the senator’s tenuous grasp of geopolitical affairs related to U.S. national security. American commitments in the Middle East are of particular relevance given recent events in the region, the most urgent of which from the American perspective

In the middle of September, shortly before the House of Representatives opened its impeachment inquiry against President Trump, I started texting with his personal lawyer, Rudolph Giuliani, to try to arrange a time to get together. I stressed that I wasn’t looking for sound bites; I wanted to talk, in depth, about the whole arc of his career, with the goal of explaining how he wound up at the center of this historic moment. There were several weeks of inconclusive, if at times amusing, exchanges — when I reminded him of the numerous Giuliani profiles this magazine has published

In response to the killing of Iranian General Soleimani by a U.S. airstrike, Iran announced that it would no longer adhere to the 2015 nuclear agreement. As was the case with Washington’s previous withdrawal from that agreement, many observers are lamenting that a major opportunity for curbing Iran’s nuclear activities has now been lost. Alas, this view gets it wrong. The nuclear deal never had the significance that many attributed to it. The agreement’s portended goal of verifiably preventing Iran’s military nuclearization for 10 to 15 years could never have been achieved. The core element of the Joint Coordinated Plan of Action (JCPOA)[1]

Sometime last fall, a security contractor based in Asia took a call that he found curious. The man on the other end of the line, a longtime acquaintance and, like him, an expert in protecting VIPs and valuable cargoes in challenging environments, was looking to hire for a job in Japan. He offered few specifics. The assignment would involve escorting someone out of the country, he said. It would pay well. And he was looking for operatives with military or police experience and, ideally, fair-skinned East Asian faces—the kind that wouldn’t stand out in Tokyo. The contractor wanted to know more. Who would the operatives be protecting?

You’ve probably never heard of the most economically transformative legislation of the Trump era. Granted, it has not yet passed and it might not pass. If it does, it would affect a large portion of Americans, but hardly all of them, unlike the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. And its potential effects are hotly contested by policy advocates, politicians, and economists. Still, California Senate Bill 50, winding its way through the state legislature again this month, could generate tens of thousands of new jobs and billions of dollars of new investment, reshaping the geography of the biggest state and solving a large chunk of the cost-of-living crisis

Right now, the country with the world’s biggest oil reserves — Venezuela — is putting out a fraction of its traditional production, as a corrupt and inept socialist government has lost the ability even to keep the golden goose going. Meanwhile, Iraq is in turmoil, Iran is crazy and Saudi Arabia has been looking shaky. Despite all this, oil and gas prices are holding steady, and while what’s going on in the Middle East constitutes a diplomatic crisis, it’s nothing like the sort of earthshaking trouble it would have been a decade or two ago. You can thank the frackers for our energy independence
Veganuary: The makers

When Scott Wood realised the ethical minefield vegans face wearing Scotland's national dress, he decided to create an alternative. A kiltmaker for more than 10 years, he switched to vegan-friendly kilts after adopting veganism three years ago. The made-to-order garment avoids animal-based products such as wool and leather, making it suitable for vegans. His kilts cater to the diet and beliefs that are becoming more and more popular in Scotland. "I still wanted to wear my kilt but it collided with my new beliefs, so I made a vegan one for myself," Mr Wood told BBC Scotland's The Nine programme.

Apia Bay lies on the north shore of Upola or Upolu, the largest island in the South Pacific’s Samoa island chain. The bay, a lopsided, coral reef-encased V, is bounded by a peninsula on the west and a headland on the east. Through winter—summer in the South Pacific—Apia’s small harbor shelters vessels, its coral floor layered with just enough sand to hold anchors. In spring, however, storms can turn the little harbor into a churning trap. Weather-wary skippers usually have time to make for deeper, safer water. But as barometers were plunging on March 15, 1889, Apia Bay remained crowded. Seven warships, each flying the flag

On February 3, a bizarre ritual will once more take place across the state of Iowa. Caucusgoers—that is, people whose schedule and abilities allow them to spend hours in a local high school gym, public library, church basement, or American Legion Hall on a weeknight—will try to persuade their neighbors to stand in a corner with them to show their support for their preferred presidential candidate. Once enough Iowans without childcare responsibilities or work obligations have stood in enough corners, the ritual is over. The presidential race will enter a period of fresh clarity.

The White House budget office violated the law when it froze U.S. military aid to Ukraine, the Government Accountability Office concluded in a new report. “Faithful execution of the law does not permit the president to substitute his own policy priorities for those that Congress has enacted into law,” the GAO wrote in an eight-page report. Several witnesses who testified before House impeachment investigators said President Donald Trump ordered the hold on the critical military assistance.

Fearing a repeat of the deadly violence that engulfed Charlottesville more than two years ago, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam plans to declare a temporary emergency Wednesday banning all weapons, including guns, from Capitol Square ahead of a massive rally planned next week over gun rights. That's according to two state officials who were briefed on the plans but not authorized to speak publicly about them. The governor, a Democrat, plans to announce the plans at a news conference Wednesday afternoon because of credible threats of potential violence and extremism, one official said.

The climate crisis is the biggest threat to global stability, the World Economic Forum (WEF) has warned. WEF on Wednesday published its annual global risk report, highlighting what its members see as the biggest threats to economic and political stability. For the first time in the report’s history, the top five longterm risks were all linked to the environment. “The planet is heating, the ice is melting, and we see that the library of species are on fire,” Borge Brende, president of WEF, said at a press conference in London to launch the report. “It’s really, really serious.” The biggest

WASHINGTON — Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Wednesday that two House chairmen who led President Donald Trump's impeachment inquiry will be among the House prosecutors for Trump's Senate trial. They are Democrats Rep. Adam Schiff, chair of the Intelligence Committee, and Rep. Jerry Nadler, chair of the Judiciary Committee. Trump was impeached by the Democratic-led House last month on charges of abuse of power over his pressure on Ukraine to investigate Democratic rival Joe Biden as Trump withheld aid from the country. He was also charged with obstructing Congress’ ensuing probe.

Megan Rapinoe's roaring again. The International Olympic Committee published new rules that prohibit "political, religious or racial propaganda" "at medal ceremonies and Olympic venues," and Rapinoe says she "will not be silenced." She later added that she will kneel anyway, which would force the IOC to enforce its rules or back down. Not one for fine distinctions, Megan understands the world only in relation to herself and, as usual, completely misses the point. The IOC said nothing about silence. They said she couldn't use the Olympic stage to push politics. You can noisily talk about anything else — your girlfriend, the state of soccer,
