Jonathan Turley Says Letitia James Might
Not Be Done Losing To Trump Yet

Democratic Attorney General Letitia James of New York may suffer further losses in appellate courts to President Donald Trump, George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley predicted Thursday. A New York appeals court ruled Thursday that the $355 million civil penalty issued by New York Judge Arthur Engoron in February 2024 violated the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition against excessive fines.

Comments:

So, part of her judgement is gone... the big part. But there is a remaining fine to be repealed.

Turley;s comment that this gives back some of the credibility to the NY Court System is completely false in my opinion. The NY Court System will not regain any credibility until corrupt judges like Engron are removed from the bench.

I am confused by the term, "A New York Appeals Court". New York is unique among the states in naming the trial-level courts "The Supreme Court" and the highest court in the state as "The Court of Appeals". Ms. James has stated her intention to appeal the ruling from "a New York Appeals Court". In what court, exactly, will she be filing that appeal? It would be so helpful if at least one reported named the judge who signed the order to vacate the money judgement for the so-called "frauds".

No serious business person will invest capital in New York unless and until the totally corrupt legal system reverts to its former state. New York given its position as a major business center thrived in part because of its highly developed set of case laws and excellent judicial system. The hacks currently in power from the Gov on down have destroyed that stellar reputation Unless and until the fraud conviction and Bragg’s phony 34 ‘felonies’ about nothing are completely reversed entrepreneurs will not invest there. Ask Kevin O’_Leary. Ask anyone who has money and has left that legal cesspool that NY has become.

She should be sued personally unless she has some sort of immunity. This doesn't help the flailing Democrat Party. It exposed how immoral, unethical and illegal the party has become. It is, however, something we have come to expect. We have a serious DOJ now and certain people should be having a hard time getting to sleep these days.

The Democratic Party released its official platform on Sunday night, to be voted on at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois — and it calls for reelecting President Joe Biden, who was still the candidate at the time the document was finalized in mid-July. “President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats are running to finish the job,” it says. (...) The Democratic platform claims Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have achieved enormous progress for Americans, and that Donald Trump “is rigging our economy for his Mar-a-Lago friends and billionaire donors, who like him, are only in it for themselves.”

Anyone who listened to Vladimir Putin’s TV broadcast to his nation on September 21 had to be shocked by the Russian leader’s tone, incoherence and threat. US President Joe Biden, in a speech to the UN General Assembly, only made matters worse, not better, by putting all of the burden unequivocally on Putin’s head. There are many impacts from these events, including the bitter possibility of a wider war that will spill over into Europe.

For quite some time, Congress has ceded its constitutional power to legislate to the unelected administrative state -- at least when Democrats are both the congressional majority and hold the White House. Now, having ignored its true function, it seeks to expand its mandate to judicial powers. The Select Committee set up by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to investigate the January 6 riot has obviously determined that its mandate does not require a legislative purpose: It will act as a judicial branch, ...

From the Miami Herald, Judge orders Alligator Alcatraz shut down in 60 days, says no more new detainees. It’s an Obama-appointed federal district judge, of course, and this is the case involving the alleged “environmental damage” being done to one of the world’s biggest swamps. From the Herald, Though her order does not prohibit the state from making repairs to the site, the most striking aspect of the order is her demand that the state begin removing all generators, gas, sewage, and other waste items that have transformed the airstrip into a detention center within 60 days, rendering the site uninhabitable. The state of Florida, of course, is appealing the decision.
