Brooke Rollins, secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, could not commit Tuesday to an August deadline for the release of new dietary guidelines for Americans.
"There will be no commitment because we want to make sure its perfect," Rollins said.
"We're working on them; they will be coming soon probably in the coming few months," Rollins said.
In May, Robert F. Kennedy, the secretary of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department, said the guidelines could come as soon as August.[snip]In January, the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking issued a draft report on its findings analyzing the impact of alcohol intake on overall health.

They want to make things perfect...didn't they say that about the last guidelines, and the ones before that?? Give me a break..the only thing government can do well is spend the money they take from our pockets..

In light of Glen Beaton's Aspen Beat article posted here yesterday - why even bother with another updated dietary guidelines? We have too many people in this country who receive welfare in all its forms and do not know how to spend these benefits wisely: they buy the wrong food, etc. And the the tax payer has to take care of their health issues because they buy and easy crap, do not exercise, do drugs, etc. And then we have too many black Americans screaming racism in the healthcare industry while they stuff their faces with all the wrong foods (when they've been told that they shouldn't eat) when you're overweight, diabetic, etc. Can we get the federal government out of lives, especially at this level?

So an other wrong guideline from our goobernment. All the guidelines issued by our goobernment and they are yet to be correct. Guidelines are like global warming warning. I'll believe it when just one is sorta correct.

The USDA can just fire the employees and contractors working on dietary guidelines.

Create the guidelines, post the guidelines, teach them in the schools. Follow the guidelines in every federal food benefit (i.e. school lunches, limited choices on SNAP). But stay outta my own I-worked-for-it, I spend on what I can afford choices.

RFK'a main emphasis was on prevention .... healthy living. His involvement in this should come as no surprise. Those who need it the most will ignore it.

Government guidelines are like every other policy ever enacted. They put in a new rule, the puppets sign onto it and defend its divine inspiration with their lives. Then in a few years it gets abruptly changed and those very same puppets declare they never really believed in it as they sign on to the next thing.
Not me. I dont believe any government recommendations. I'm healthier than a lot of people my age and not dead yet. So I must be doing something right. No guidelines required.

I try to insulate myself from government policies as much as possible. Better that way. They don't know me.
As for alcohol policy, I don't drink. As far as I am concerned about alcohol, I believe there are people out there that should absolutely not drink. When they get drunk all their inner demons come out. People die because of drunks.

People my age will remember the "food pyramid" taught to us in grade school. Some may have watched their diet, but 99% of us probably just ignored it. The people who load up on snacks, colas etc. will ignore this also. Five years from now, there will be the same number of obese people. Nobody asked me, but it looks like another waste of taxpayer money.

We are not all created equally. I won't tell you what fresh fruits and vegetables and fiber do to me. Parts of my body have serious issues and a lifetime of these issues has resulted in something I never knew could happen. No, I won't describe it. But suffice it to say, I canNOT eat the way everyone preaches. Now if I didn't have these issues, I'd live on fresh fruit. I love most of them. Can't do it. So thank your lucky stars you can eat that way but don't try to tell me what I'm supposed to eat. You do you and I'll do me.

The new food groups are canned, boxed, frozen and ready-to-eat.

Those of us who have seen all the guidelines from that old pyramid to the Mediterranean Diet and everything in between don't get to exercised over "guidelines ".

Spare me.
I knew Kennedy Jr would insert himself into every avenue of our lives. This time it may be a new temperance movement and a stealth move to increase taxes on adult beverages - like cigarette taxes decades ago.
