Supreme Court blocks Florida law banning
illegal immigrants from the Sunshine State

Florida cannot enforce a new law that would bar illegal immigrants from entering the Sunshine State, the Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday. “The application for stay presented to Justice Thomas and by him referred to the Court is denied,” read the order rejecting Florida’s emergency appeal to the high court. No justices dissented, and the court did not provide a written opinion explaining the order. US District Judge Kathleen Williams, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, blocked Florida from enforcing the new law in April.

Doesn't It seem odd that this law would be blocked since there already is a law barring illegal immigrants from entering the United States?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but ,the State of Florida is not attempting to "regulate" Immigration, as such, but rather, they're denying "free access" to their State and its "benefits rich" environment.

Immigration law bars those who enter without permission as having broken a FEDERAL law. For a state to think this is their prerogative is one, an impermissible usurpation of federal responsibility, and second, just plain a virtue-signaling, waste of time. Any state can simply detain illegals and hand them over to ICE. There is no need to charge them with having broken some state law.

The Constitution explicitly grants the power to establish immigration law to the Federal government (Article 1, Section 8). Florida overstepped its authority and Thomas is being totally consistent here.

What part of illegal do they not understand? These invaders have no liberties under OUR laws. What of our citizens liberties. The citizens our Constitution was written to protect. Was there something wrong with the law? If so, say it, Laws can be modified, but they never provided an explanation. The SC should know this. Why didn't they provide an explanation? Maybe they are providing cover for some other interest that wants illegals. The SC ruled unanimously which is amazing in itself.

This has more to do with jurisdiction than anything else. The Scotus simply stated that a state cannot make its own immigration laws. Think about it. This is the flip side of the the sanctuary state issue. It is a Federal issue and states cannot legally encroach upon the Fed's jurisdiction in immigration matters. Or... would you prefer the SCOTUS upheld FL... and that brings with it legitimacy to states taking the other side of the issue?

A lot of us have wondered if/when PDJT would channel his inner Andrew Jackson, tell the court to stuff it, and tell them also to find a way to enforce their rulings. This might be an issue where Gov. DeSantis could do exactly the same thing: Continue to enforce Florida's law and tell the courts to get stuffed. The courts would appeal to the federal executive branch, which I doubt would be willing to their bidding under the present circumstances. I think this could catapult DeSantis into a leading position for 2028.

1. Illegal entry to the USA is illegal. 2. Florida is part of the USA. 3. Any Florida LEO can detain a person for violating a federal law in Florida. There is no reason a County sheriff can't detain a person violating federal law and turn him/her over to ICE so that ICE can arrest and charge them. Isn't that exactly what happened in Texas?

North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency said Lavrov was invited by the country’s Foreign Ministry but did not immediately provide further details, including whether he would meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Lavrov’s visit follows a June trip by Russia’s top security official, Sergei Shoigu, who met Kim in Pyongyang before saying the North had decided to send thousands of military construction workers and deminers to Russia’s Kursk region to help rebuild the war-torn area.

When I reported on the shooting of a police officer near an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas on the Fourth of July, I wondered: “What were these violent activists planning? Why were they wearing body armor and masks?”Thankfully, despite being hit in the neck, the officer survived and was released from the hospital.I wondered what they were up to because it certainly appeared as if this armed group had more sinister plans than the lone shooting—as bad as that was—because they were heavily armed, with some wearing body armor and others covered in mud. They had goggles and masks and fliers reading: "Resist fascism," "fight oligarchy, and "fight ICE terror."
