Spain's government is preparing to block an agreement among NATO countries to raise defence spending to 5% of GDP just days out from a major summit, Spanish media has reported.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is pushing for members of the transatlantic security bloc to boost their defence spending to 5% GDP by 2032, after US President Donald Trump declared America's allies were shirking their responsibilities.
The proposal stipulates that 3.5% of GDP should be earmarked for core military spending with a further 1.5% dedicated to broader security-related areas such as infrastructure.

If 2% is the number, 2% should be the price of admission. No 2%, no NATO. But then I think NATO is a toothless anemic lion and the huge military umbrella of the US has allowed Western Europe to fund every outlandish stupid social program imaginable at US taxpayer expense. Cut them all off and maybe they will stop importing their own death in the form of Muslim savages from every hell hole on this planet.

Spaniards and their government continue their progress backwards, as their history shows. Arrogant and rude, they think they are/know/act better than their peers. And this is a country that had to install toilets in public bathrooms in order to belong to the EU.

Agree #1. It also accounts for the huge tariffs they place on American products that are allowed into their countries. Somebody has to pay for all the vacation time and travel these Europeans take.

The demise of NATO is near. Most of the EU is broke from sheer stupidity with open borders and Green bull crap. They have lost the will to sacrifice for their own needs and defense and now haven't the money. Their decline is only exceeded by their immorality and Godlessness. And WE aren't far behind. Heaven help us all.

#7, Not one European country, even the most poverty stricken, is as broke as our country is. We are the brokest country the world has ever known. The so-called Big Beautiful Bill continues our reckless borrowing that some day will lead to our collapse. The Europeans have plenty of problems but not one of them comes close to our financial mismanagement.

Actually, I don't blame them for not wanting to spend more money on defense. They have to save as much as they can so they can buy the millions of candles they're going to need for when their power goes out the next time.
An old joke, I'll repeat here because it's true....What did socialists countries use before candles?
Electricity.

Throw Spain out of Nato. The Pj clad Ukrainian jackass can replace them. Oh, btw. who invited the non-Nato member Ukraine to dinner in the Netherlands. This creep needs to be ejected and rejected wherever he wants to crawl in.

Hey DMUK, "defence" means to take the barrier down around your yard. In 'Merica it's "defense."
Spain is going to be conquered by the muslim hordes that are taking over the whole of Europe so NATO can't help those who voluntarily give in to the enemy. Why pay for insurance that can't do anything for you?

So...what is Spain's game here?...are they so anxious to be a player on the world stage that they jeopardize their freedom....or do they want the news cameras to put them in the same category as President Trump....next they will make a call to President Trump asking for a meeting...and then they will stand in the same spotlight as President Trump....kinda pathetic play for attention...isn't it??....hope President Trump doesn't fall for it....

I love Spain, but they are forgetting their own history. They should remember that they were overrun by the Moors in olden times. They might have enjoyed an association such as NATO stepping in to help them defend themselves. Now, they do not want to increase spending to 5%. If they chip in only 3%, then the other NATO members are only obligated to give a partial help. Perhaps they should step out of the organization.

There are more recent articles out there, but few with the graphic showing who's spending (at least 2% of GDP) and who the scofflaws are... Would love to see those spending under 2% told that their calls for help will be ignored... Let's withdraw NORAD from Canada (and just look after ourselves) and while we're at it, let's move NATO HQ from Belgium to Greece....
