There Is No Such Thing As A Free Grocery Store

Original Article

Zohran Mamdani, winner of the Democratic Party’s New York City mayoral primary, is overflowing with Marxist ideas of how to govern that are so lousy that it’s hard to believe he got more than his own vote in Tuesday’s election. Each of them is horrendous, from free bus services to rent control to punitive taxes on those who create prosperity, but none are quite so laughable as his proposal to establish a chain of city-run grocery stores. Mamdani’s campaign literature – overflowing with empty leftist jargon – says if elected he “will create a network of city-owned grocery stores focused on keeping prices low, not making a profit.”

Liberal democrats and people without critical thinking skills just love free stuff. They seem to lack the understanding that nothing is ever free unless those providing the goods and services refrain from taking any pay. The fact is that this never happens. A relative told me he thought healthcare should be free. This was while he was attending college and obviously under the tutelage of a Marxist educator. I asked him if those involved in healthcare should all work for free and this destroyed his entire argument. I'm happy to say that today he's a die hard conservative.

It appears this could very well be the exact recipe to bring about positive change. Once this experiment collapses into spectacular disaster, the mood for common sense positive change might be more appealing. I just hope that when it occurs, that a purple city like the one I live in, and have invested in, doesn't absorb the fleeing hordes.

Being stupid/ignorant is not pretty. The left in NYC are going to find out very soon how ugly it will be. I will be 74 in August. I am just hoping I am around to see them brought to their knees. For whatever reason NYers think they are special, superior, a force to be envied and lusted over. They are wrong. There is no free lunch. Enjoy standing in line to pick up your weekly ham bone and bag of dried beans. If there is any left. This level of dumb just blows me away. Have they not heard of Chicago?

It never ceases to astonish me that people who love socialism ONLY think in terms of what they will get and never what they will have to give up (or do without). Like, #2, I have a friend who wanted free health care. I told her that first she needed to go out and pay the healthcare of 10 people who didn't have it and see how she liked that. I also found it hilarious when a liberal relative who wanted free stuff moved to Canada and was APALLED that the government made him hand over a portion of his oil royalties. How DARE someone make them give something up when they're supposed to be getting everything for free!

Winning the NYC Democrat primary is simply another testament to the idiocy of DimoTwit voters and the foolishness of ranked choice voting. Quite frankly it is also proof of our public education system's deliberate failures. For multiple generations children who've been 'schooled' by unionized public school teachers have learned nothing about American history and its greatness let alone how to read and write. These 'graduates' know nothing, cannot think for themselves and vote their skin color or someone who repeatedly make unkeepable promises - like free groceries.

There are videos on YouTube of people shopping for groceries in the old Soviet Union. The shelves are bare and people are filling their carts with whatever is offered that day, not what is needed according to a shopping list. The one I watched had an almost empty meat case with what was left being the most pathetic offering of meat that you wouldn't feed to a starving wolf!! Those in NYC voting for their free stuff are going to get it good and hard!! Sadly, even that will probably not be enough to qake them up to reality!!!

IF this moron could run a grocery store as efficiently as the ones currently in business (incredibly unlikely, essentially impossible) and he just eliminated the profit.....the cost of a $20 item would drop by a whopping 80 cents to $19.20. People don't grasp that grocery profit margins run about 4% at best, often 2%. So that $20 item might only drop by 40 cents to $19.60. Moron does not grasp that the costs are NOT IN THE PROFIT. My bet is that the fuel costs which all thee leftist clowns have intentionally increased in NYC would be a far more substantial portion of the cost of food than the miniscule profit margins the owners get. Commies are always totally and completely full of horse manure on all things.

Of course there is, which is why today's Democrat party likes to say there are all sorts of things that are FREE to those getting the handout or benefit from X program. The people getting the groceries will get them for FREE, regardless if someone else was taxed to pay for it, the person getting the groceries will think they were due and some rich person should pay. That's how the Democrats roll. Create a huge program with government employees, and then a beneficiary of the program to be stuck getting the benefit where they can't leave or advance in life. They create permanent voters on both ends. Even if there's fraud and waste, which is nearly guaranteed, they get to scream some Republican wants to take away your entitlement.

Re #14. I agree. I will be 83 next month so, if I can beat off the reaper a few more years, I will sadly be around to see the collapse of a once great city. I actually believe and hope that he won't be able to install all of his breathtakingly stupid ideas or grocery chain stores will leave and all that will be left are small family owned stores that the owners can run themselves if they can avoid being robbed or killed. We are already seeing people with the means to leave, getting out while they can. These are taxpayers leaving. Eventually, most of NYC will be occupied by the people on welfare and the city will be bankrupt and asking for a federal bailout (us). Big corporations will leave for greener pastures taking their high earners with them and the only ones left with will be the uber wealthy living in guarded, concrete bunker-like havens, and they may leave also because of punitive taxes and lethal danger if you try to simply walk on the streets. You won't be able to visit Central Park without being accompanied by an armed security squad like Seal Team 6. Maybe this will wake the foolish voters up, but I doubt it. Free stuff and not having to work is a siren song luring only the ones that are looking for an easy life. There might be an upside in that other cities will see NYC slide into a dystopian nightmare and take it as a warning.

Faced with the failure of their policies, far-left and outright socialist Democrats in blue-state America are doubling down. Whether it’s New York, California or midwestern leftist havens Minnesota and Illinois, the socialist model will bring only more failure and misery to its citizens. And, because they voted for it, they’ll get what they deserve. We’re not gloating here. The Democratic Party was once a serious political group that based its popularity on appealing to centrist blue-collar working-class Americans and moderate urban liberals. The extreme left was largely, though not entirely, marginalized. Today, that’s sadly no longer true.

As New Yorkers walk dazed through the streets of the world's greatest city, seeking perhaps the half-buried Statue of Liberty lying beneath the silent sands of adeserted beach in the Forbidden Zone, one thing has become clear: The young revolutionaries of the Democratic Party are ready to take control of their party's future. And there's hardly anyone left to stop them. On Tuesday, Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old Ugandan-born trust fund baby -- the scion of a Columbia University post-colonialism professor and an Oscar-nominated Hollywood director --

CNN last week got their hands on a classified document stolen from the National Security Agency. That’s a felony punishable by ten years in prison, by the way. The stolen document guessed that the efforts by Israel and America to neutralize Iran’s nuclear weapon program had set back the program by only “a few months.” CNN and the rest of the media cabal could hardly contain their glee. They celebrated the failure of America and Israel. Hardly mentioned in CNN’s report was that the document itself noted that its conclusions were merely “preliminary” and were expressed with only “low confidence.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom sued Fox News on Friday, seeking damages of at least $787 million from the conservative network for allegedly defaming him in misleading comments about a phone call with President Donald Trump. “No more lies,” Newsom wrote in a tweet that announced his lawsuit, which the Democrat filed in Superior Court in Delaware, where Fox News is incorporated. The monetary damages Newsom is seeking almost exactly match what Fox Corp. Fox News, and other Fox cable networks agreed to pay Dominion Voting Systems in April 2023 to settle a Delaware lawsuit alleging they defamed Dominion by falsely claiming its machines swayed the outcome of the

We don't yet know the timeline, but the Trump administration appears to be planning to use the power the Supreme Court just acknowledged to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a third-party country. As you may recall, two major legal issues were being argued about Abrego Garcia's deportation to El Salvador; the one, of course, was the "due process" argument, and the other was the fact that while he had been ordered deported, he was not to be deported to El Salvador due to his claimed fear for his life.

The Supreme Court is allowing South Carolina to cut off Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood, a win for pro-lifers that will clear the way for red states across the country to stop taxpayer dollars from funding abortion. The justices ruled 6-3 along ideological lines Thursday to permit South Carolina to cut off Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood. Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote the majority opinion for the Court, siding with the state against a private challenge brought by the abortion provider and a patient.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday handed down its ruling in the parental rights case of Mahmoud v. Taylor. In a 6-3 decision, SCOTUS decided that parents do have the right to opt their elementary school-aged (pre-K through 8th grade) children out of classroom instruction that may include materials on gender and sexuality. The three dissenters were Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Ketanji Brown Jackson. Writing for the majority, Justice Samuel Alito states that the parents involved were likely to succeed in their claim that the school system, by not allowing the opt-out on LGBTQ-themed classroom activities, was an unconstitutional burden on their religious liberties.

The Supreme Court decisively ended lower courts’ ability to block policies issued by the Trump administration using nationwide injunctions on Friday. In a 6-3 ruling, the majority found that lower courts exceeded their authority by issuing a nationwide block on President Donald Trump’s birthright citizenship restrictions. “The injunctions before us today reflect a more recent development: district courts asserting the power to prohibit enforcement of a law or policy against anyone,”
