Big Lots is beginning 'going out of business' sales at all its stores across the US, as it prepares to close its remaining locations. The discount retail chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September, and has already shut hundreds of stores nationwide. In a press release Thursday, the company said it would begin the sales at its 963 remaining locations, after a sale to a private equity firm fell through. More than 400 Big Lots stores have already closed this year, marking a 30 percent decrease in its footprint.

Retail has had a triple slam: online sales, covid, and now inflation. The only stores left standing will be Walmart, Home Depot, and similar stores.

Never having had much use for Big Lots I hope the sale starts tomorrow because I have to go to a Walmart near the Big Lots store in my general area tomorrow to buy dog food and a few other essentials and it would keep some of the crowds away.

Some retailers I grew up with have come and gone. Stores like K-Mart, Sears, Montgomery Ward, Murphy's Mart, Ames, Waldenbooks, Bed Bath & Beyond and Woolworths were good places to shop. Now mainly due to big money stores like Walmart and online shops like Amazon it seems like it's Big Lots' turn.

Centralization. Seems convenient and cost-effective, but there is a downside too. Revelation 13:16-17

Denzel Washington received his minister's license as the 69-year-old movie star takes on a new role in life. Washington was baptized by Archbishop Christopher Bryant at the Kelly Temple in New York City on Saturday. "It took a while, but I'm finally here...If [God] can do this for me, there's nothing He can't do for you," Washington said, according to Bryant. "The sky literally is the limit." Bryant shared photos of the moment Washington gave his life to Christ in a Facebook post.

They are still confused and, understandably, a little angry in the centre of Essen, though the mood is very much calmer than it was a few days ago. [SNIP] As I stand here, amid the oom-pah music, the fairy lights and the little stalls selling hot chocolate, hefty sausages, toys, candles and all the ephemera you would expect at a traditional German Christmas market, I can see why. For in mid-afternoon on Sunday December 8, this snug ambiance – what the Germans like to call 'Gemütlichkeit' -- was suddenly disrupted by chants of 'Allahu Akbar'.

Radiation levels have spiked in New York City, fueling conspiracy theories that the drones terrorizing the Northeast are searching for a missing nuclear warhead. The emissions, clocked by GQ Electronics' Geiger Counter World Map, were detected near the Bronx and Upper West Side Wednesday. The application shows a radiation reading of 1048 counts-per-minute (CPM), i.e. how many particles were detected, in the Bronx: higher than normal background radiation. The average person is typically exposed to background radiation that measures around five to 60 CPM, though CPM varies with sensor devices, according to NASA. And, on the the Upper West Side, the app's reading measured a still high 175 CPM.

A 139-year-old Massachusetts paper was slated to publish its last editition Wednesday, after it agreed to a $1.1 million settlement in a defamation case filed by the mayor of the city of Everett. [SNIP] “What the Everett Leader Herald, its owner, and its publisher and editor did to my family and me — publishing article after article, accusation after accusation about me that they knew were false, that they knew they had no basis for, for the avowed purpose of destroying my reputation to serve their own personal financial interest — wasn’t just dishonest. It was corrupt,” Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria said.

ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos is said to be 'apoplectic' and 'humiliated' following the network's decision to pay $16 million to settle a defamation lawsuit between ABC and Donald Trump. The settlement, which includes $15 million towards a presidential foundation and $1 million for Trump's legal fees, has sparked a firestorm within the Disney-owned news organization. Stephanopoulos, a former aide to Bill Clinton in the 1990s, was particularly incensed at being compelled to issue a public apology, according to the New York Post. Insiders explained how the veteran anchor remains 'defiant' amid the fallout.

Wright Patterson Air Force Base had to close its airspace late Friday night and early Saturday morning because of drones flying in the area, reports say. Robert Purtiman, a spokesman for Wright Patterson, confirmed to WCPO Channel 9 that the drones first were spotted near the air base late Friday night. The incident comes as concerns build over repeated sightings of drones in New Jersey and New York. “To date, installation leadership has determined none of the incursions impacted base residents, facilities or assets,” Purtiman tells WHIO Channel 7. Airspace around the military base base blocked for about four hours because of the drone sightings, WHIO reports.

Former Gov. This is the first time that I’ve noticed drones over my house, and I was in a restaurant in Monmouth County on Friday night. I had people at the bar coming up to me and saying, Governor Murphy won’t tell me anything. The president won’t tell me anything. Do you know?"

Hilarious footage captured the moment Jill Biden's holiday cheer was quickly shot down by a child who corrected her Christmas greeting. The First Lady greeted children at the White House on Friday to mark the festive season at the Marine Corps' 'Toys for Tots' event, welcoming military families: 'Hello! How are you? Happy Holidays!' 'Happy Christmas!' a young boy shot back. Jill grinned at the riposte, correcting herself: 'Happy Christmas, yes.' The interaction recalls a culture wars clash that seemingly sparked up during the Obama Administration, as conservatives accuse liberals of watering down the Christian holiday.

If anyone in the future cares enough to write an authentic history of the 2024 presidential campaign, they might begin by noting that American politics exists downstream of American culture, which is a deep and broad river. Like any river, American culture follows a particular path, which has been reconfigured at key moments by new technologies. In turn, these technologies, which redefine both space and time—canals and lakes, the postal system, the telegraph, railroads, radio and later television, the internet, and most recently the networking of billions of people in real time on social media platforms—set the rules by which stories are communicated, audiences are configured, and individuals define themselves.

As drone sightings over New Jersey continue to raise questions, a new tool could bring answers about the source of these flying vehicles — if the government could get it off the ground. Earlier this year, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began requiring all unmanned aircraft systems to be equipped with Remote ID technology, which makes every equipped drone uniquely identifiable to authorities, like a license plate on a car. The FAA announced that it would provide a database that could be accessed by local law enforcement, but nearly one year later, local authorities still can't get into it themselves.

The bill’s passage in the Senate comes after the House passed the spending bill on Friday night. The CR, backed by President-elect Donald Trump, included a provision to suspend the debt ceiling until 2027. At the heart of the Christmas story, nestled in the opening verses of two Gospels, lies the birth of Jesus, the long awaited Messiah. These words speak of a King born not in the grand halls of a world capital, but in the squalor of a manger—a place of vulnerability. As the angels proclaimed peace on earth, humanity was presented with the ultimate paradox: the Prince of Peace, born unexpectedly, in the midst of ongoing war and turmoil. For centuries, the people of Israel had awaited the Messiah. Prophecies spoke of a leader—a descendant of David—who would reign with justice, righteousness, and power, establishing peace and ending war.

When I was a kid, my parents taught me that any apology followed by the word “but” was no apology at all. In fact, they said, you might as well not even try. So when I heard Senator Elizabeth Warren say in an interview on MSNBC, “Violence is never the answer but people can be pushed only so far,” I harkened back to the words of my parents. What exactly was the Senator saying?
