As drone sightings over New Jersey continue to raise questions, a new tool could bring answers about the source of these flying vehicles — if the government could get it off the ground.
Earlier this year, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began requiring all unmanned aircraft systems to be equipped with Remote ID technology, which makes every equipped drone uniquely identifiable to authorities, like a license plate on a car.
The FAA announced that it would provide a database that could be accessed by local law enforcement, but nearly one year later, local authorities still can't get into it themselves.

The FAA has plenty of funds they are just using this as an excuse to get more money.

And as a rationalization for not doing their job. FTA: '"As long as it has a GPS and Remote ID built into the software and into the system, it can be tracked just like any other aircraft," James McDanolds, program chair at Sonoran Desert Institute’s School of Uncrewed Technology, told Fox News Digital.' Unless they weren't, and then we can't.

Every time a government agency gets resources, more of our freedom goes away.

Don't worry, the government already has it along with hundreds of other ways to identify everything else in the depths of the ocean and out into space. They don't want us to know.

Chinese spying. Could be Russian or ours, but I vote for the Chicoms. At first, I thought it might just be amateurs having some fun after the first few appeared, but no longer believe that. Too many, too organized to be backyard drone flyers. I am still puzzled as to why they have their lights on.

Stupid Americans are supposed to believe that non-American, illegal drones will be equipped with identifiers, just like all the 'undocumented' workers crossing the southern border have their shot records up to date!

Who is going to fly an illegal drone that they register.
If it's a foreign country they are no0t going to register their drone, If it is built by the perpetrator they are not going to register it. This is BS.

No city would need it if the FAA did its job. Cities have enough to do.

FAA only gets $2 Billion a month to spend, after a $1.5 billion increase last year, and still needs more….yeah….

I'm hesitant to even waste my time commenting on this issue because it makes absolutely no sense. This has been going on for how many weeks now? And our intelligence services and military are unable to put a stop to it and tell us what's going on?? Really? Our capabilities have slipped so badly that we can't deal with unidentified aircraft violating our airspace with impunity for several weeks now? Don't believe it for a moment. I have no idea what's actually going on here but my guess is that's it's something really nasty and the feds are being real tight lipped about it.

Sorry, second post, but if the gummint can read a license plate from 200 miles out in space, why can't they identify the drones...??? Just asking for a friend...

The drones are OURS. We are simply testing our anti-drone and anti-unmanned aircraft technologies. That's why the government keeps telling us it's nothing dangerous but they can't identify exactly what's going on. Because it's a TEST of our OWN defensive capabilities! If they announce that it's testing, that would defeat the purpose of the test, wouldn't it? What better way to be sure our defenses are in top working order than to send a variety of aircraft up to see that our technologies are working as they should. You can believe we also are carefully monitoring what kind of technologies foreign governments might be using to investigate goings-on here in the USA. It's all a cat and mouse game, but we're not nearly as ignorant as some of you seem to believe.

Reportedly a drone came down in NYC and NYPD has it. They traced the manufacturer and the company is funded by Blackrock. I still don't know why, and I can't prove it one way or another.

Yeah; The FAA doesn't have a spare cellphone and can't download a free Google or Apple App:
https://www.unmannedairspace.info/latest-news-and-information/dronetag-releases-drone-scanner-app-to-track-nearby-drone-flights-using-remote-id-data/
(Assuming of course that the drone is compliant with the remote ID regulations, or is not under 250 grams (~1/2 pound) which are exempt from the remote ID rules.)

It took the government years to admit to building the U-2 until the Russians were able to shoot one down and could no longer keep the secret. The existence of the SR-71 Blackbird was not acknowledged until it had lived its service life and was retired. Stealth fighters and bombers had to be revealed because they were used in the First Gulf War. The government knows and the government lies.
