Trump Threatens to Retake Panama Canal
if Panama Continues to ‘Rip-Off’ US

In a post on Truth Social, Trump spoke about the Panama Canal and how it was viewed as a “vital national asset” to the U.S., and how the U.S. was the “number one user” of the Panama Canal. Trump added when former President Jimmy Carter “foolishly” gave the Panama Canal away, it wasn’t for “Panama to charge” the U.S., “its Navy, and corporations” doing business in the U.S. high prices. “The Panama Canal is considered a VITAL National Asset for the United States, due to its critical role to America’s Economy and National,” Trump wrote.

Trump is a strategic thinker. The Panama Canal is a strategic chokepoint in the Western Hemisphere commercially and militarily and should never been given away. If he can find a way to make a workable deal on it, we definitely should do it.

Canal has become too small for the bigger ships in use today. So China has been working on a deal to update/widen it. Which will mean they end up owning/controlling it. Next they will take the Suez.

Go look at the Canal on one of the online mapping/satellite image sites. There are new locks -last I looked they were under construction- at each end that are MUCH bigger than the original locks that were built -what, 100 years ago?. My understanding is that the USA had a 100-year lease on the Canal Zone. Jimmah gave it away, but the lease was nearing the end of it's life- I think it had something like 8 to 10 years before it expired. My understanding is that once the Panamanians had it, the ChiComs worked a deal, and now the ChiComs control it, are the ones building the new locks- and charge exorbitant fees, as much as they can, such that it is almost as expensive to transit the Canal as it is to 'go around'. It would be nice to have the Canal back in American hands, but I don't know how our government would go about it, unless it was to just.... take it, much as Russia 'took' back Crimea and it's port of Sevastopol.

I just looked at the Canal locks using Bing Maps. The old locks were about 110-ft wide. The new locks are about 180-ft wide, as near as I can tell using the 'measure distance' function.

Chances are it would take the USMC to take back the Panama Canal. It that happened the USA would have to take back the old Panama Canal Zone to be able to successfully operate the canal.

I seem to recall that President Reagan warned Panama that since we built and paid for the canal, if they did not adhere to the provisions of the agreement about the canal, we would take it back.

President-elect Donald Trump said he wants the US to own and control Greenland — a desire he made known during his first presidential term — as he announced his pick for US ambassador to Denmark on Sunday. “For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” Trump said in a statement on Truth Social. His comments on Greenland came in the same statement Trump used to announce he has selected PayPal co-founder Ken Howery for the ambassadorship to Denmark.

Cultural trauma is a very real thing. If you’re a Boomer (or older), your cultural trauma was the JFK assassination: you remember exactly where you were when it happened. (I asked my Uncle Larry where he was, and he told me he was sprinting away from the grassy knoll. Then he slow-touched his nose. We don’t talk to Uncle Larry anymore.) For Gen-Xers and millennials, the cultural trauma was 9/11. We can all recall where we were when we heard the news. And nearly a quarter-century later, it still colors our thoughts, fears, and expectations. We still think about it every single time we go to the airport.

H.R. 82, the "Social Security Fairness Act" was one of the last gasp endeavors of 118th Congress to get bills passed and off to President Joe Biden for signature before leaving for Christmas vacation. Because, priorities. With the passage of this bill, Congress succeeded in repealing established laws from 1977 (the Government Pension Offset or GPO) and 1983 (the Windfall Elimination Provision or WEP), which prevented certain public pension earners from double-dipping into the Social Security coffers.

It didn’t take long for Democrats to start whining, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) was at the forefront: Trump ally and X owner Elon Musk—co-chair along with Ramaswamy of the newly-established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—has become increasingly known for his pithy, devastating tweets that sum up situations in just a few words. The 1,547 page “continuing resolution bill” is available for review HERE. They are calling this a “CR” (continuing resolution) bill to fund government. However, only approximately 10 pages (15 to 25) are the funding mechanism; the rest is a regulatory construct, an attempt to circumvent the Trump administration, and position the federal government to defend against structural changes President Trump is intending to initiate. Within THE BILL, in an effort to force Republicans to support it, there is a section approximately 500 pages, that spends and directs $100 billion for disaster relief in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina following the devasting late season hurricanes.

On one hand, it doesn’t make any sense: Of all the social media platforms, TikTok skews younger and to the left. (Much younger and more left-leaning than Facebook or X. According to one poll, just 6% of its audience identifies as “mostly conservative.”) It’s emerged as one of the key communicative tools and networking devices for liberal activists, including Antifa. Additionally, it’s a China company. And on January 10, the U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether or not there should be a federal ban. So why is Trump defending TikTok? He didn’t always feel this way. In 2020, he threatened a federal ban of TikTok, but never acted on it.

President Biden on Monday commuted the sentences of 37 of 40 men on federal death row — a list that includes at least five child killers and several mass murderers — in a stunning act of clemency just two days before Christmas. Biden, 82, gave the reprieve to the nation’s most violent murderers — nine of whom were found too dangerous to live after butchering fellow inmates — as part of his effort at “ensuring a fair and effective justice system,” the White House said.
